Protip: if you type "[role] diff" you get reported

Damn OP, you sound like you’re a real hit at parties

you’re saying that like it’s not just as likely to be toxic in team chat… i’d say it’s almost worse.

you can mute people. i’ve had countless amicable conversations with people from the other team.

i like to start games with “hi everyone glhf”, usually gets positive responses. i also said “happy pride” throughout june, likewise. i also go “wtf” or “lol” when something weird happens with the other team, or type stuff like “ns”, “nice dart” when i’m impressed by someone who shot me. i’ve finished close games (win or lose) by “close game gg wp” and had games where the opponents have said stuff like “that was an enjoyable game wp” despite losing. overwatch is a great game if you focus on the actual gameplay rather than only the score.

what i’m trying to say is if we don’t want match chat to be toxic, maybe we should work towards making it more friendly and sportsmanlike. i’ve had several people add me as a friend after we finish a game as opponents, because guess what people like good mannered people even if they’re on the other team.

all that being said i’m not really annoyed by “x diff”, i never use it but i see it as inoffensive banter.

It is funny going through this thread, and seeing people that don’t understand the power of using the report abusive chat system. Like I made a whole thread about a friend that had to fight GMs tooth and nail to get his account back. It took risking his entire blizzard account just to get them to FINALLY look at his chat log to see he hadn’t typed in chat in -months- and doesn’t even use in game voice.

No account will be suspended or silenced for that.

It’s almost as if Match Chat (outside of Custom Game) is a bad idea. (…!!!)

For every ‘ns’ or ‘hehe, Monke, I saw that! <3’ there is about 309872452 instances of trolling or abuse or ez or diff or whatever.

Just get rid of Match chat and you LITERALLY halve (or more) the amount of **** in chat.

If the brother playing is doing everything possible to throw and the entire team is calling it out and the enemy team is questioning it, then I contribute.

Secondly, I’m not a jerk about it and only do it with others banter, and the report system is RIDICULOUSLY abusable, people have proven that with FRESH accounts getting banned through just spamming the button without reason and then blizzard giving you the same bot respond if you appeal it LMAO, AND

You can’t be THIS damn sensitive in a PVP game, player vs player means there will always be someone better, be it for a moment or a game, light banter like “Diff” is nothing toxic and is a light hearted little jab that the other person can do after getting an elim. Dropping ? or genji/tank/ana/mercy diff shouldn’t be a reason you can get suspended and if that is something that offends you then please play something else and not a PVP, FPS game.

If you used it that way, it would be kinda the same as any other “I’m better than you” line (‘showed you’, etc.) … although, repeatedly saying “light” doesn’t make a bragging putdown any less of an insult, but it’s perhaps not the worst form of toxicity ever.

However… I have almost exclusively seen “diff” used at the end of matches to blame someone for the loss, or occasionally for the winning person to proclaim a skill difference with their counterpart… which basically is the same as any other “You’re bad” kind of line.

Let’s not pretend that this is all that happens when people say “x diff.”

Please. I’ve played enough video games to know that there’s a lot more toxicity that happens beforehand, as well as afterwards. “X diff” is just the signifier that someone has been toxic and will continue to be toxic.

The meaning of “gg” is slightly changed from “good game” to “welp, this game’s over.” in that instance.

I have been banned just for swearing… even though there’s a profanity filter setting in the game for those that don’t want to see that. It wasn’t even toxic swearing, just more of “that’s bs” or “Blizzard, wtf type of candy is this?” (Ana emote), etc. (obviously with the wording spelled out).

Oh boy, make sure to report people for getting a kill on you too because that will be the next step towards toxicity, grow a thicker skin, Yes I agree toxicity should go away and hardcore insults, slurs, etc. Should not be allowed and blizzard has done a poor job at moderating that, but little pokes at one another, in a competitive PVP FPS game, isn’t something to be taken seriously. AT ALL. If you do, that says more about you and less about the game you’re playing, take it and give a little poke back, it has always been the idea of competition, the OWL players do it, friends do it, randoms do it, no body treats it like its the be all end all crazy toxicity where someone dropped the N word or spammed homophobic slurs into the chat.

Okay bro i will make sure next time to let them kill them for free as well so they don’t think i’m toxic when I get a kill on them to help my team push. The mindset of this community is so sad and sensitive to literally everything. Tomorrow, OW2, the casual community will call for people’s heads for playing PVP because its a toxic environment where you succeed due to someone else’s failure. Grow a thicker skin, its a competitive PVP FPS, poking fun at one another is fine, dropping slurs, homophobic comments and such isn’t. Blizzard employees themselves and OWL players drop “Diff” commens in their matches and such and it isn’t considered toxic.

You completely missed my point, so i’ll go ahead and give you an example.

Say you’re playing with a Rein who charges in all game. This man just gets caught the entire game, normally behind enemy shields. However, he also is complaining about his healers in team chat the entire game, spamming “I need healing”, and being passive aggressive in voice. This is the player who will typically type “gg healer diff” after his team loses a round. This is what I meant when I said it is a signal of toxicity.

I don’t really care what they do in owl.

What I do know is that if you insult me in a way that makes me want to say something sharp back to you, I cannot say anything or I’m the one who will get silenced or banned.

So instead I’ll just report you, even if you think that insult is light.

(I say that as if I were the one being insulted, but in reality I’ll report anyone for blaming the loss on any teammate who wasn’t actually deliberately throwing, regardless of how ‘light’ their choice of words for calling them bad or how ‘polite’ their encouragement to never play again).

Hey, you know what should happen? If someone gets reported, actioned against, and then successfully appeals, the people who reported him get actioned in turn.

There’s such thing as abusive gameplay, but there is also such thing as abusive reporting. Just like in the real world…

Which isnt surprising, given the SR gap between players within a certain match may happen. One team gets a near masters, the other a plat tank.

My god !!!
Is there anything this tender community doesnt complain about?

Whatever you say dude. I get action taken screens every day.

The funniest part is, how these defenders completely missed my point that the report system is abusable and it has been proven by players on fresh accounts getting banned with no chat history and when appealing for it blizzard sends automated messages, doesn’t even talk you through the chat logs or advises against you what to do or not to do but literally NO ONE can get banned for gameplay sabotage or anything else other than chat or cheating (which on its own is rare too LOL), its so depressing because blizzard’s philosphy with the game is "xd you should be allowed to do whatever u want, throw, feed, int but dont you dare tell the other person to swap or help you or express your frustration that you have a legitimate off-rolling thrower on your team with the entire lobby acknowledged it but he won’t see a single suspension or ban despite their now also being replay proof.’

The saddest part is, me and my friends get people suspended for free nowadays because if 3 people report someone three times its GGs. Just send them an invite to group and you can’t find their account anymore or their endorsement disappears (thats what happens when u get suspended/banned) and its so ridiculously abusable. Great system.

Somehow I doubt that.

But I don’t really care, so good for you
