Projectiles require less skill than hitscan

Projectiles are more skill than hitscan, BUT Bliz and other games make it easier through hitbox sizes. So in Overwatch, projectiles are actually easier other than Ana’s unscoped where it’s hitbox is extremely small (a stealth nerf over a year ago) so her scope is easier.

It could be argued that this is easier than anything.

what you call luck, I call skill. Just as hitscans have to track enemy movements, so to do projectiles. The difference being, projectiles don’t just track the enemies movements, they track where the enemy is GOING to be. And that in itself is a skill.

Projectiles require aim and prediction, hitscans just aim.

They both requires skill. It is just a different type of skill.
-hitscan requires tracking and position prediction (for flick shots)
-projectiles requires position prediction based on the travel time (the smaller and slower the projectile is, the more skill it requires to land).

Hitscan bullet size is a single point and projectiles have their own larger hit box.

Hitscan is more reliable. Projectiles have a slightly larger hit-box to compensate. Both are pretty much equal in skill.

Some might argue projectiles require more skill because in addition to flickshotting/reading enemie’s movements, you also have to account for

  • your relative distance to the target and
  • your weapon’s projectile speed and
  • where they’ll most likely be a few seconds in the immediate future

That’s 3 things hitscan do not have to take into account

Hanzo is my least played hero, but whenever I played him, I stacked sharpshooter Potgs all the time -from Sombra /widow /Mercy main

I think even hitscan has a luck element… network lag, input lag, prediction, etc.

I will say projectile is more “natural” and hence our brains low level wiring understands it better.

Projectiles have the advantage of abnormally large hit-boxes, otherwise you would never hit enemies enough, this makes up for them and makes them seem a bit easier… I swear Genji’s shuriken are the size of hubcaps… and people joke about Hanzo shooting tree trunks around…

Luck is typically unintentional. When im leading somebody and I expect it to hit them then that’s not luck

No, they take more skill since they require prediction instead of just point and click.

But their hitboxes are also the size of beach balls, so…

The thing is that Projectiles and Hitscan shouldn’t be weighted on the same scale.
Hitscan requires pinpoint accuracy but for that it’s point n click.
Projectiles require preaim (and in some cases calculating in the arc) but have very forgiving hitboxes (We all know that’s true)

What makes Projectiles feel less skillful than hitscan is the fact that projectiles generally support Spam. Shoot anything with a traveltime roughly towards the enemy and there is always a chance you just hit stuff. With Hitscan that doesn’t really work.

For me tho… when comparing both Hitscan and Projectile… someone who has very good accuracy with Projectiles is … at least in my book… higher skilled than someone with the same hitscan accuracy. Because aside from Lucky Spam… aimed Projectiles are usually actually harder to hit consitenly than Hitscan weapons.
