Practice Range needs a bit of help

I’ve already made a post about this but I’ll do one more because I simply can :joy: (getting serious now).
I love how practice range helps us getting to know a new character and learn basic controls or playing a hero after a rework/massive change(Baptiste for example) and that is why I use it. But the thing I hate the most about it is the robots. So here are some ideas to try to make it better:

  • Instead of robots let us choose which AI we want in that place. Like… The default AI are those robots but if you press “B”, for example, you can switch that AI to a hero (Like Tracer);

  • Why can’t we choose how the hero cooldown are? Like Custom games. This would be a good improvement since you wouldn’t need to be waiting to use a long cooldown ability (like Rezz which has a 30s cooldown). By that logic we could determine how fast we get our ult charge as well.

Practice range is mostly for trying out a new hero for the first time and testing there kit . Having custom game elements such as changing cooldowns could potentially confuse new players and anyway there is always player vs ai to see how heros are against other heroes

Yeah ok… But normally you would try to play a hero without changing the cooldowns. And the new players, in my opinion, would prefer practice Range instead of Player VS AI, since the bots movement can be predicted while playing against bots in an actual map, while being a good why of training, you still need a bit of experience that can be provided by the Practise Range. But I would be super happy if at least we could choose which bots we want to practise against in PR.

The training area is so shameful they really need to overhaul it

Yeah it does need a change, maybe also add flying bots

It honestly needs a complete rework.

We need flying bots, bots that move randomly instead of the pattern they have now, reduce the hitbox of the bots (or at least their heads), we need bots that shoot faster/deal more damage, bots with more and less hp, bots that heal, bots that have shield and armor hp, bots that stun/knockback, we need an area with barriers, an area with small examples of the objectives (like a payload moving in a circle, or a capture point that resets if you go away or if you reach 100%) to test how the abilities interact with them (currently i think BOB is the only ability that can interact with an objective, but still), and also an area with a bot that actually tries to kill you

I would just like to get better targets to practice aim with. Not these weird dangly targets that have stupid physics and there is no hit marker for hitting em.

I want to be able to have multiple people with me in the practice range.

I want robots that fly in the practice range

There needs to be an area where you can take a real amount of damage to test things like Zarya, or just tank skills in general. The bots that shoot you do next to nothing.

Bots should also have 200HP at a minimum. I would love slimmer hitboxes so that it’s possible to practice sombra/Tracer without shooting at blimps, but that’s just me.

They need to rework it maybe actually having holograms of heroes to practice shots on to get used to hit boxes.

I really wish every hero had their own practice range unique to their kit. I know it would be a huge change for ultimately no real benefit, but it’d be fun.

I think having quick tutorials for every hero would be really good, explaining how their kit works and stuff

learn how to make a custom skirmish game with AI
