Not many people are willing to dedicate that kind of time or energy for the sake of winning their Quickplay games though. If you want a game where that kind of dedication to learning one character is expected (even in casual play), you should try fighting games. People will spend hours learning combos and character matchups before going into a real match, and if they don’t you can just mop the floor with them and move on fairly quickly.
But you can’t rely on 9 other people to have that kind of drive in what’s largely considered the casual OW gamemode. Especially with people being largely unhappy with the state of the game and matchmaking (according to others) being so bad that it’ll place bronzes with masters players anyways.
Because no one should force anyone out of a mode. That is worst than trying to control a players’ playstyle.
Competitive teambased hero shooter. How about we address what this means and why you keep eluding over it?
Same.
That’s where I’m at right now, but someone has to say something.
And I don’t want to deal with these throwers.
Hey if one needs to bite the thumb most others will have to too.
How are you being fair here?
Oh but they’ll put hours in on loss after loss after loss for so little huh?
Seems like a very big hypocrital moment here.
Want to improve, but not really. Asked to try a tad bit harder, oh but those people are out of line because you’re still stuck at the same level 200 matches ago.
Make the effort. A real effort. Or you don’t really improve at all and that is the entire point of practice.
Here’s a crazy secret… Not everyone cares about winning. Some people play games to have a good time regardless of if they win or lose. There are some people who even play QP who are there to just enjoy the game, not even to practice. Insane, right?
So when you play lucioball, are you mad that it’s not a competitive team based hero shooter? Or, do you maybe understand that, that’s a different game mode?
Yeah and the “competitive” part is designated to its own gamemode.
I really don’t get it - You have two game modes where you can experience an OW match as intended by the developers: one where you’re expected to care about winning, and one where you aren’t. Why are you going into the game mode specifically made for people who don’t care about wins and demanding that they do???
Just because people don’t switch characters doesn’t mean they are throwing.
I’m being fair because I’ve pointed out multiple times that there is a game mode that has what you want in it. You just refuse to play in that game mode. That’s on you. You’re being unfair by expecting everyone else to change what they enjoy to match what you think the game should be. That’s not really how the world works.
And here’s the thing, people don’t lose over and over again. They win some games and they lose some games, its pretty much 50% with everyone’s stats I’ve seen. And people do improve just by playing QP. It may not be as fast as you want, but they still improve.
The basic OW experience doesn’t require you taking 5 college courses on how to play Ball or spending hours practicing movement tech. You did that yourself, because you wanted to. Not everybody wants to do that, and Blizzard sure as heck isn’t expecting you to in order to play their game. That’s why new players have to play a certain amount of QP games before they can get into comp. Blizzard literally bars you from playing comp, because they want you to learn how to play through QP first.
The basic experience also doesn’t require people being on board with whatever you want them to do 100% of the time. Sometimes you gotta pick up the slack and counter swap when your team doesn’t, sometimes they’ll do it for you if you’re patient enough or if you can ask them to without being so fussy over it.
There is no “best of both worlds” unless both you and the enemy team want to play the same way in the one match you’ll all be seeing each other in. And I know how that feels - it’s a wonderful time. But you can’t expect that from 9 strangers every single game, because not everyone wants to do that all of the time.
Not everyone cares, and you can’t make them care, because they specifically chose to play the version of OW where they are expected to not care. Demanding otherwise from them just gets you reported and booted from the game.
Comp is unhealthy for you?? Then let go of the comp mentality.
you spent all that time investing in learning his movement techs and every interaction with map geometry just to end up plat and complain about people not living up to your competitive standard in the casual mode
Comp really is the mode that people take seriously, a little too seriously tbh, which is probably the reason why it causes you anxiety. I’m not going to downplay that anxiety because I know that’s a real issue that is hard to live with.
I get why you don’t want to play comp; I don’t like comp either. But that only leaves the casual mode, which is the basic OW. And unfortunately, basic OW comes with the occasional teammate who, to put it kindly, wisdom has always been chasing them but they have always been faster.
And you’re right, it is extremely frustrating to have teammates who hold you back, trust me, I know. But there really isn’t a solution to that problem. Comp has the ranking system to incentivize players to try their hardest, learn how to work as a team, practice until perfect, all that stuff. The ranking system gives players a goal to work towards but it also causes stress as now you are expected to perform your best.
QP doesn’t have anything like that which is why it’s more relaxed. There are no real stakes in QP and because of that, you are going to have players who just want to play the character they enjoy and not worry about winning or try tactics that aren’t optimal but can still be fun. It’s fun to kill a Pharah with Reaper.
But my point is, there isn’t really a middle ground. You either have stakes in the game which make people take it more seriously at the expense of stress, or you don’t and have to deal with people not taking it as seriously. But it sounds like you are trying to take the competitive mentality into the stress-free (well, less stressful anyway) mode, which is why it’s frustrating for you.
I think you need to work on not being competitive and find other ways to enjoy this game, and that will make it way more enjoyable to play. Easier said than done, but it’s probably the only way for you to enjoy this game without it being unhealthy.
