wouldnt the solution be to this is to buff the off-tanks defensive capabilities more… like really buff d.va’s matrix and zenyata’s double shield spell. so that it would be as if they had shields?
I’m only in silver, so maybe DPS get more situational-awareness at higher ranks, but I’ve mostly seen barriers being a liability since the patch. Winston’s bubble has more health than an Orisa shield, but the whole team still huddles behind the Orisa shield and complains that Orisa’s not keeping it up.
And don’t even get me started on the number of times I’ve been asked to switch to a “second shield tank” while playing Winston with a Rein or Orisa on the team…
I think there will be some growing pains while players learn to play more fluidly and with more use of natural cover, including (especially) the tanks and DPS. Supports wouldn’t need to heal as much if they weren’t getting hurt as much, and would be more able to use their full kit of utilities.
those q abusers just want to play dps w/o waiting, report them for q abuse and throwing at tank role, you shouldn’t ask those simple things.
Barrier nerfs allows non-barrier tanks to be more viable.
Yes, it would be better if they were on Rein, Orisa, or Winston.
But if they can’t play those heros, or outright refuse to play those heros because of their playstyle, then it’s better to be running two off tanks.
It’s not just the tanks job to adapt to the teams picks, it’s yours too as support or dps. Adapt to hero picks and hero playstyles, work with what you have and don’t complain about what “could have been,”
With the last patch shield tanks are pointless. They are destroyed in seconds leaving the team exposed. So then it could be deemed that shield tanks are feeding the enemy. That would lead to many reports and tank players getting suspended.

Shields have been changed to be used for pushing tools, but that doesn’t change their basic design as a form of damage mitigation.
Orisa, Sigma, Winston and Rein have way better fight control than D.Va, Zarya or Hog do. The shield not only prevents a lot of damage, but also prevents the enemy from gaining ult charge. Hammond has something of this effect too with adaptive shields, but he’s not someone I’d consider a main shield tank.
The only problem with buffing characters like D.Va, Zarya and Hog with more damage mitigation, is that they’d run the risk of just being OP. They currently have higher damage output in place of better blocking abilities. You’d have to nerf or take something away to justify giving them any kind of defensive boosts.
Mine is definitely garbage supports. You know the ones, the mercy 1 trick named “kat” with her medigun beam attached surgically to the widowmaker.
I rarely lose games on tank due to dps mistakes. Your dps can be medicore and you can still win. Tanks have the biggest impact.

Honestly, now that barriers aren’t barring half of the DPS cast, it only makes sense that more DPS players would want to play those DPS that they couldn’t before.
Tank queue times will always be the gatekeepers in roleq, I don’t think there is any fundamental way of changing that.

I’m just gonna leave this here.
I know when I’m the issue and the reason why we lost and I know when someone else is. When we lose because our team gets picked off because we can’t even peek to get picks ourselves then not having a shield is the issue. Not sure what I, as the support, can do against that.
Nowhere did I state that I ever enforced anyone. I think I repeatedly said and asked people to try. I never said “Do this!!!”. I am kindly asking people to try, that is not the same as enforcing something. I don’t know why you’re giving me this hostile attitude.
Then how about you suggest a change of play when you see them do that? Give them advice and ask them to stop doing it. It’s really not that hard.

My counter argument would be that people need to learn how to play with main tanks who aren’t shield tanks.
I’d say far more of this community has no clue how tanking actually works so they demand the tanks change what they are doing.
I took a lot of time to learn Wrecking Ball and I feel confident that I can contribute to the team. Why should I switch from my best hero because the community has no idea how to play unless they have shields as a crutch?

I do get where you come from tbh. I didn’t say that you have to hide behind a shield and shoot at the other barrier 24/7. But if you just get rolled because the enemy team has all the cover and your team has to hide behind walls and is scared to peek because we don’t have the best situational advantage, that’s definitely avoidable by having a main shield tank on your team as well.
No you main tank. How about you expand your horizons for once instead of acting like a little entitled baby. You want a shield? YOU PLAY IT.

I thought this statement was false … but after a few matches I can truly, and sadly say its true.
You know what? I am going to go with the NUCLEAR take:
If you dont want to tank, just dont. But PLEASE dont pick a Rein and just be passive and back off 24/7.
Its like playing with no tank. And for the love of god and everything that is sacred, there are only SEVEN heroes in that category, you SHOULD be able to play a decent Shield hero or 2 and 2 off tanks.

Anyways, note that Ball is considered a main tank. But I will agree that Dva-Zarya-Roadhog comps are stupid.
as main tank, it is part of my job to get ignored some games, thats just life, cool.
but if i have to push forward, peel the supports and watch my roadhog getting double pocketed from chip dmg while i have to find my own health packs, and get shot in the back for the entire game, well then im gonna talk to any smart asses who think im being passive any way i want to.
