I don’t think there’s any good reason why it shouldn’t be in the game. They don’t lose any money by doing this. If anything, they make money if they expand on this idea and make it a permanent mode with rotating patches.
OW Classic was enjoyable because it was a limited time mode. How much fun do you think everybody would be having with it three months down the line with zero additions or changes?
I’d say a lot if the patches rotate, and also if there was some sort of incentive to playing it, like OWC Competetive or exclusive rewards tied to playing it.
I have played more OWC then I have played OW2 probably in the last half a year. I do not have any desire to play the normal game after experiencing OWC.
If they need to put in rewards to make people want to play then that sort of highlights that it isn’t fun to play on its own.
it’s more fun than the updated version.
You are a widow player right? If so I can see why you really enjoy it Imo classic was alright for tanks, amazing for dps since for once they are the most impactful role; but miserable for most support players. Maybe some mercy players liked having mass res again, but there are so few support choices and they are so clunky compared to live.
But dps felt amazing with the lack of healing and invulnerability skills. Dps just gets to kill everything.

I’d say a lot if the patches rotate
That’s not what the whole idea behind OWC was though.
It’ll return at some point, but it’s gone for now. Temporary modes often cycle back around.

But didnt they say they wanna return to other past patches

But didnt they say they wanna return to other past patches
They probably misunderstood you on that one, it will be rotating through different patches and eras of Overwatch, but only one patch per return of the game mode. If it goes in order, maybe we’ll see Moth Meta next?
All they said as far as I know is that it was never planned to be a singular event, that it would be recurring, although it would ultimately depend on how it was received. The FAQ for OWC says nothing about cycling through future patches.
Here ya go:
“Each Overwatch: Classic event will feature heroes and balance from popular moments in the game’s history, ranging from the fast paced and frantic gameplay of the 2017 Moth Meta to the triple-tank, triple-support style of “Goats.” In the first Overwatch: Classic event, we’re taking it all the way back to the original 1.0 release from May 2016, which includes many abilities that haven’t been seen for years and all the chaotic gameplay from that era.”
From the dev blog
Right, that seems fine then.
Temporary modes, each exploring popular moments from Overwatch past.
If they made classic a thing permanently it would end up exhausting its welcome fairly quickly and people would get bored of it.

Just look at Open Queue and the state that’s in. That should tell you everything you need to know about how much attention the mode would receive were it permanent.

That doesn’t really address my point, though.

Absolutely and that’s the problem with the Story Missions. Having unlimited access means literally everyone will completely drop them a few months after they release, the same would go with classic. Those Story Missions should’ve been free like archives events.
Looking forward to seeing it come back with a fresh coat of paint. It won’t have quite as much hype as the original, but that’s fine by me, I just wanna enjoy the next patches
Yes im a Widowmain but I also played Pharah aswell as Reinhardt and I enjoyed all three.
Back in Overwatch I played all roles, especially when it was Open Queue, but with OW2 I exclusivly play DPS.
And the heros is not everything. I like 6v6, I even Like 2cp (more than Push or Clash) and a very big point for me is also Not seeing the OW2 Icons or Heroselect Animation nor hearing the OW2 voicelines. For me when I had one Wish for Overwatch, I wished for OW2 to never have happend.
it kinda does. I basically just stop playing at all. If OWC would be permanent I would definitly see me playing the game regularly

OW Classic was enjoyable because it was a limited time mode.
Make 5v5 limited instead.
See that’s great and all, but what you’re missing is that there would be a very small minority of people who would continue playing Classic.
Even as a temporary mode, towards the end people were sick of broken abilities. As much as we all complain about Overwatch, it is far more balanced in 2024 than it was in 2016.

Make 5v5 limited instead.
Maybe for Overwatch 3. Until then, you can keep holding your breath.
people want something, your rational is they will get bored, so take it from them and tell them to enjoy what they don’t want or .
