Play of the Game determining system

I feel like sometimes PotG determining system is bugged. Sometimes I’d see better moments in games that will definitely make the PotG but the chosen PotG moment was a different one.

Is it rigged or something?

I think it directly uses the fire system, so percent kill contribution plays a big role. A big play that’s done by multiple people will lose out to a medium play done alone.

This made me remember the time when mercy was super strong and got POTG every single game by simply using her ult and resing a few people…

POTG is only determined by the most fire gained in the shortest amount of time. This is why instant death ults such as self destruct and riptire tend to get play a lot. This is also why environmental kills count more than normal kills as well, since you gain a lot of fire for killing them when they were near max hp.

I’m not so sure tbh. Like yesterday a Moira got potg who just pretty much just touched 3 enemies who then happened to die by someone else.

In that same game I did a triple kill with my d.Va Bomb right at the end of the map.

So i do fully agree that the potg system is sometimes really really weird.

Edit: replied to the wrong bowling hamster. I thought you guys were the same Person sry

This is exactly what I meant; sometimes I get huge nanoblade (altho it wasn’t all my kills, some are just finishers) but in the end I’ll just lose my potg to a Moira sending her succ ball to God knows where and then dying at the end of the potg. Or just Mccree who don’t even secure a kill on anyone just contribute (assist) kills and then dying lol

Remember all the Bastion and Torb turret PotGs? Pepperidge farm remembers.

Moira gets play a lot thanks to her being able to do multiple things at once, and gaining fire from everything. Her heals apply a heal over time that last while she does damage, and her orbs can be out at the same time. All of that is gaining fire for her.

Were they low health? You gain more fire the more damage you do to get the kills, so if they were low hp it wouldn’t actually get you much.

Finishing low hp enemies gives little fire

The orb can hit multiple enemies at once, giving a lot of fire and getting her multiple assists if they all die. If she healed anyone before that and her heal over time was still on them during the play, that will also be gaining her fire.

If he does most of the damage it can generate quite a bit of fire, even if he only gets an assist.

I’ve always hated the POTG system. Acts that actually helped define/win the game don’t get it but random plays do.
A zarya perfectly bubbled a teammate right as they were about to be charged into a wall saving them but the POTG goes to a junk tire who killed to people after the point was already lost.
A great sombra hack stopping the enemy ult combo lost POTG to a moira tickling people.
I wish honeslty the POTG was scrapped but I adore the highlight intros so much

It’s a bit weird. You can get very mundane looking PotGs because of something you did of screen or a few moments earlier. I once saw a play of the game where a Genji got 0 kills. He got it because he had deflected a Moira ball (which wasn’t in the play of the game) that would have killed 2 members of the team, and then did some damage to a Rein who was killed while ulting by someone else.

The system picked it up because it realized that, even though he did nothing of note, his presence is what won the teamfight.

Hog at 400-500 HP (waited for him to use his breather), Ana and McCree at full Health. Caught them at the end of Eichenwalde when they tried to contest the payload.
