Plat is not bad

Imagine believing a rank matters in a game with no progression.

Literally said that about the plat and 2900 ELO only … and you are trying to call ME out on reading comprehension?
This strawman attempt is just … wow.

You are a diamond throwing that claim … theres not much context there mate.
Are you claiming that some or many plats have the same or even MORE game sense than diamonds? because then you are doing the 180º and proving me right.

Thanks for winning the debate for me I guess :man_shrugging:

Again with the strawmans dude. Who said that? Who even said the word “god” or unchievable?
Your claim is simply ridiculous, mostly because at HIGHER levels of play, the skill gap is HIGHER , this is a FACT buddy. So your claim makes zero sense. Period.

Another claim that means nothing and we cant prove it, we all have alt accounts etc. Pointless.

1 and 3 happen in every rank and 2 is like a very very very very very little bonus that barely makes a difference, but live your dream.

Words have meaning pal, if you dont use them properly and get called out for it, you cant run around arguing semantics. Specially because you didnt do well the first time. Be precise, it will save you trouble of misinterpretations.

That one is on you. 100%.

I dont even know what to call this … verse? what?.
Dude using words with random meaning now and claiming its meaning is subjective is not going to save your statement from being wrong.

So now only dudes that get A or A+ in school are “good students” I guess?
Cool :man_facepalming:

In this universe, your statement is wrong and mine is right. Sorry.
It stays true, unrefuted, proven by the actual meaning of the word “good” and “bad”:
*A plat player is the very definition of “good ” . Its not great (masters) and its very good (GM). Also is not average (gold) or not good (below gold).

Since you clearly have nothing but strawmans and trying to change the meaning of words, this ends here

As a person who used to be plat, I can tell you that plat is awful and people in there have bigger egos than a lot of the people I’ve met in top500.

People in T500 have the biggest and smallest egos simultaneously, at least on console.

Yeah there are some big ego’d people in t500 but a lot of the time the people I play with/against are just current or ex-OWL players/streamers that just play for fun.

I dunno dude, it’s not hard to grasp what he was saying in that quote

^^ That one

It’s not a ‘verse’, it’s a list. It’s not random words, it makes sense, it’s pretty clear IMO. And this isn’t school, this isn’t the same thing. But you know, even school has the deans list, or honor roll and more…

I’m not trying to be rude but this is kind of ironic…

What he’s saying is pretty true.

Honestly, you could both argue over this but first you have to reach an agreement on what “good” means… because what a lot of people look at as good isn’t really what you get in plat, but you do get chaos. Being chaotic doesn’t mean everyone’s -bad-, but you again have to define what good is in mutual terms to begin trying to force someone else to believe your narrative.

In my honest opinion, Diamond is where people begin to show how ‘good’ maybe not that they are but how ‘good’ they could be… but that’s just mechanically and there’s a lot of game sense and more than often falls through there. I don’t consider myself a good player in the least and I made it to Diamond, albeit on support, but I’ll make it there on DPS too… it doesn’t mean a lot to me and although people are certainly better in some aspects I still wouldn’t call most of them ‘good’. “They’re alright” might be the best that comes to mind.

True, but there’s a big difference between low and high platinum.

There’s a difference but imo I wouldn’t call it big. People are more confident and you can see that but it doesn’t translate to a ‘large’ difference afaic

It’s true, but people will engage in an inane amount of gatekeeping on this forum… like, to the point of saying that people in the 90th percentile (Diamond) are not good at the game/don’t know how to play. It’s like saying a Minor League baseball player isn’t good at/doesn’t know how to play baseball because they’re not MLB. People in high ranks just drastically overestimate how good is “good” because they live in the high-ranked bubble.

Platinum players are above average. Full stop. Part of what makes Platinum seem so… weird and chaotic, though, is that you can match someone who is 2700 with someone who is 2600, and the skill gap there is way larger than a 3400 matching against a 3300. Creates a much broader spectrum of skill, so you’ll find that sometimes you’re playing with someone considerably less skilled or more skilled than yourself just because of the compression of percentiles into the rank.

Plat is not bad, but to be in plat you have to fundamentally be playing OW wrong. Obviously practice will improve that but the fundamentals are not being done properly if you are in plat.

Right, you can be average at something and still be bad.

I’m average at rocket science, that doesn’t mean I’m good, or even okay at it.

in any competitive game, being anything less than “the best” many people react to as “ur trash”. Average is dirty despite most people being “average”. It’s hilarious to me when I read about GM/Masters players calling Diamond, the top 10% below the top 5% (85-95 percentile) “trash”

not doing a 180. plat is still a not good rank by any means no matter how many ways you have to insist that masters is really good or GM is great or something in order to scale plat as being good. every rank is filled with trash players, plat just happens to have a lot more of them compared to diamond and up.
hence, plat rank be described as having players with less game sense

there are plats with more game sense than diamond players, never said that wasn’t ever the case. but most plats lack significantly more game sense than diamonds when comparing within roles.

hence it doesn’t change fact that plats tend to lack a lot more common game sense compared to higher ranks.

the fact that I needed to add “tend to” to make your baby brain comprehend a statement so that you wouldn’t think that I meant literally all plats have worse game sense than diamonds is 100% on you being obtuse.

you are the genius who brought up my rank in the first place, assuming I was some high horse diamond player asserting my social dominance on poor plat players. diamond and masters are sucky ranks filled with awful players i promise you my criticism towards plat rank isn’t a diamond-masters superiority thing. plat sucks no plats are asking you to debate anyone on their behalf

“every rank” except no one gets placed more than 3200sr in the beginning, and even then placing directly in diamond is incredibly rare. most players are auto placed in 2300 to 2800 regardless of their actual skill belonging them somewhere in 1800 to 3.5k+

diamond and low masters are filled to the brim with alt accounts, of actually decent players. any alt accounts in lower ranks are people either messing around or they actually belong there if they can’t carry out of the rank. due to the way initial placements work most smurfs and alt accounts will be parked in the 2800 and up range. once again, “every rank” doesn’t exactly apply. smurfs/alts are very much a diamond masters thing

what I weird way of saying, “well you should have explained it in a way that was easier for people like me to understand.”

-believes I said 100% of all plats lack game sense and bases stupid argument around it
-100% my fault somehow

dude just think it thru before you post

you are an absolute moron. there is no debate. you and i are just some people saying these certain ranks are good and these ranks aren’t. ALL of this rank ranking is opinion. all of it

you are going well out of your way to defend plat rank, which me and thousands of other people think suck, and there are thousands of other who think it doesnt. there is no right or wrong here. you can say it’s good or above average all you want. but you are not right. you can take the absolute average of all ow players and claim everyone in the top 50% is good, but that’s just plain not true. but by all means keep making up this average, above average, good, really good, etc. rank labeling system. its totally legit. very mathematical

I’m gonna keep saying plat isn’t a good rank
and I’m gonna say the same about diamond and low masters. you can phrase your defense of plat anyway you like but both our opinions of plat are still just opinions

The average for rocket science here is including people who have zero background in it, such as (I’m assuming) yourself. That natively drags down the average by an enormous amount, but it says very little among actual rocket scientists. If you include people who don’t participate at all, then sure, even someone who is relatively untalented in their field is technically above average… but that’s a bit pedantic, because it’s not actually looking at the ranking/distribution of rocket scientists but of all people.

Ranks for Overwatch do not include the innumerable people who don’t play the game. It’s like if you only looked at rocket scientists and excluded all the people in the world or even in academia who have no background in it. In fact, it’s really even more stringent since it only includes people who actually play the mode–it’s like assessing the average performance among rocket scientists who are published in a peer-reviewed journal or who have been contracted to work on actual rockets, since you wouldn’t really have an effective way to assess those other rocket scientists (just as there isn’t really an effective way to assess people who don’t rank in Comp but still play the game). Thus, responding in this way isn’t really an accurate method of portraying the situation in Overwatch :stuck_out_tongue:

That is because lot’s of plats can go toe to toe with GM’s in isolated or 1v1 settings. Leading them to believe they’re on that GM’s level. And they will continue to believe this until they actually get some experience in those ranks or start realising everyone in plat is actually just as good (or bad) as they are and decide to improve. (Speaking from experience)

The problem comes that the dude pulls out semantics and starts using the words with the meaning that just suits his “point”. Its not that I am not understanding what it has been said, its that we are talking about a general consensus of what “good” means and … unless you want to be hardcore disingenuous, the definitions are pretty clear.

But they dont though.
Chaos” is not a measure of good or bad, also I am used to watch a lot of streams and nothing to me is “chaotic” in any way. Only for non OW players watching or playing an OW match is “chaotic”.

Saying something is “chaos” means nothing in that context … he is just using different words because I called him out and proved him wrong. Theres nothing much to it.

It isnt though. Again, reality proves it otherwise.
Shroud, arguably the BEST FPS Player, barely got to diamond and that was playing solo queue.

Thats an euphemism for the term “average” mate.
This is reality. This is what you would use, without being hardcore disingenuous, the words of “skill” level across ranks:

  • Bronze are the worst players
  • Silvers are bad
  • Golds are average
  • Plats are good or decent
  • Diamonds are very good
  • Masters are great
  • Grand masters are amazing players
  • T500 (its still GM btw) are the top of the top.

Disagreeing with that distribution is quite difficult without going into “in my opinion”, or very very very personal and skewed views.

Again - telling it like it is :man_shrugging:

People always have to find some way to put themselves above other people. Be happy where you are at while learning to become better.

Plat is a hell hole. I can climb in diamond, but if I had a bad placement and end up in plat, I am stuck there.

Seems to me plat is where all the throwers end up, people with bad attitudes that made it out of gold and delude themselves they deserve better so they never improve, people just wanting to take it easy and not care.

It is a vacuous dumpster clown world.

So shame away.

reading “diamonds are very good, masters are great” tilts me so much more than “plats are good/decent”

when actually it’s just simply that each next rank is better than the previous one. that’s it. certain ones are not indisputably good or bad because you say so. your ranking of the ranks, and anyone else’s including mine is still just opinion

That’s how percentiles work, but that’s not how bell curves work. I am plat as well, so I don’t mean this to offend anyone but I have been as high as 3800 in the past 5 seasons on DPS.

If you were to rate players’ “skills” from 0 to 100, plat would probably be about at a 20, GM at like an 80, and pros around 90-95. 100 would pretty much be perfection.

So yeah, in comparison to the general playerbase you aren’t good or bad, but in terms of skill regarding the game, yes, we are bad.
