Plat 1 - Masters 3 match rant

Plat 1 to Masters 3

Let me say that again, PLAT 1 TO MASTERS 3…

For my solo que, derank, Support M3 game. Yes, we lost. My plat 1 tank barely got 5 kills and the other tank went 42-2.

Look, I know the matchmaker tries to make faster que times and occasionally tips the lever on which team should win… but this should be hard coded out of the game like it was in OW 1. Give me 5 tiers MAX of gameplay width, and that should be so rare Gordon Ramsey is yelling at the chef who cooked it.

If there is no match to be found the game should tell me that. Or maybe WARN ME in the comp tab that my solo que will be A WIDE MATCH. That is 1000% better than the hopeless clobber-fest that I witnessed.

I really shouldn’t be told that the que time is <2 minutes for a match like this, heck I will wait 10 minutes for a solid match.

Blizzard, have some self respect. If nobody is playing, then don’t make the match.

The tank probably had like 15 sec q time. I’ve had the same thing happen, only i’m the m3 on tank and i get plat1 on support. The difference is that the matchmaker doesn’t throw me into a game because i’ve been sitting in q for a long time, it throws me into a game because someone else have been sitting in q for a long time.

And i agree, it shouldn’t be a thing. It was even funnier before you could make wide groups, you could solo q a match, win, press the stay as a team button (ikr? how often do 5 people press that) and then be told you can’t q together because of rank diff.

Ive had literal Bronze 2 to Gm 3 lobbies.

Why even have ranks if theyre just going to lump us all together?

I totally understand wanting to get people with long que times in a game!

But Overwatch really needs to have strict limits (like it did in the past) on the rank pool range.

That should keep situations similar to the one I just had from occuring. Nobody should have their tank be 7 times less lethal compared to their enemy tank.

Skill is somewhat exponential the higher up in elo you go. So differences in rank are actually much larger than they seem. That is why my tank went 6-11 while the enemy tank went 42-2.

In the past games would have a rank range of 5 tiers in diamond, and to 2-3 tiers in masters/gm. Why not take similar strides to create quality matches again but maybe 3-4 tiers to shorten que times?

Because the truth is, the only chance we had at winning that game was if a meteorite flew through my opponent tanks computer… even then my dps were just as similarly outmatched.

Unfair games are not fun and no amount of faster, wide match que times will solve that.

Couple days ago got a Gold 4 to masters 3 game cause I qued with my girlfriend somehow went against the same team twice and somehow won both times, I’m just confused how the matchmaker would allow this especially since I got a very beautiful and painful 2 flipping percent in total from both wins that took little over half and hour

What time of day are you all queueing? I only ever queue between 10am-6pm and rarely see more than 2-3 tiers apart (eg d3-d1).

I also go 40+ elims and 3 or fewer deaths at least a couple times a week in these narrow rank ranges. So it’s not just the large spread causing that. There are just too many variables for an algorithm to account for and lopsided matchmaking results.

It is very exponential, it is also due to the MM, especially due to the ivory tower blizzard built for people in champions and high GM. With the group and rank rules etc causing further isolation from the rest of the top 500 trash outside of that range essentially. Than on top of that blizz clearly has much different rules for matches up at that level. That simply ignores queue times to some extent, and mainly focuses on even matches.

Then of course we have the hidden MMR system. That singles out people that clearly outperforms their peers in certain ranks and give them a hard time by matching them against each other or unfairly. It is like yes there will be differences between a plat 1 and another plat 1, but that is the natural nature of a ranked system. One will move up the other stay. No we need hidden MMR, so we can controll the outliers and the ranks🤦‍♂️

That’s what happens when you do not wanna keep it simple and make a system with integrity.
