Hey there,

Doesn’t look like this shows any major issues, although the test was only run for about 30 seconds.

  • What is your ping in-game?
  • Can you run a new WinMTR for the duration of a match?
  • If you can screenshot the Network graph (Ctrl+Shift+N) in a match too when the latency is high that would be great. Post the image to imgur.com and share the link here.

You can just add onto your previous thread, no need for 3 threads… makes it hard to keep track of the previous troubleshooting.

Okay, that makes sense, didnt think about that.

My ping isnt spiking now, for some reason, but it has been up to about 80 a lot, sometimes even higher. heres my mtr report, i played a game while it went on, but it didnt spike up in that time, atleast that i noticed.

Hey AlphaWolf,

The WinMTR you posted looks fine, but as you mentioned it wasn’t happening at the time.

If the latency spikes up to ~80ms at times, it’s very likely just a temporary issue between your ISP and the Overwatch game servers. Usually you will see this kind of thing happen more often during “prime time” when more people are using the internet in the evening and at night.

If you want to try and work around the issue when the ping is spiking, I’d recommend using a VPN. That may give you a more stable ping since using a VPN changes the route you take to the game servers. Otherwise, I’m afraid there’s probably not a whole lot else we can suggest since the issue only shows up randomly from what it sounds like.

Best of luck anyways!

Now im encountering an issue which might be different, but im not sure. Some ppl in my ffadm were saying their ping was stuck at 108, then i looked, and mine was stuck at 102. Probably something on blizzards end bc so many ppl were experiencing it, but just wondering whats up with it.

It does look like your latency is about 90-100 MS on average in the test. Do you know if the people you were playing with are also on the same ISP or in the same state as you?

No, unfortunately, they were just randos. Is it possible to tell from the mtr where the issue is?

I see an increase in latency but it doesn’t look like it’s happening for everybody on your ISP, which is weird. The average latency for folks on your ISP over the last week seems to be ~60MS, even if I break it down to your individual city. How often does the high latency issue happen for you, and at what times of day? If you turn on a VPN when it’s happening, does the latency get lower?

I’ve been having an issue ever since the pandemic, where my ping will spike, generally about every 20-30 minutes, more often in the evening. What could I do to fix it? This is my winmtr:

(And the reason im not replying to my previous post is because it keeps giving me the message that I need to wait for other people to respond.)

Hey, AlphaWolf464! Moved you over to the main thread  Checking the general area, the latency is averaging around 40-80ms on average, but I see during the evenings it spikes up quite a bit. With the behavior of it happening more often during the evenings, the connection may be throttled to help maintain all the connections. The latency may have increased since a lot of people are home now and it’s taking up more bandwidth than normal. We explain this a bit on this post. A VPN can temporarily work around the issue and help lower the latency in the mean time.

I know basically what they do, but Im not super familar with them, would you be able to explain how to maximize the traffic avoidance?

A VPN may or may not help, that is your only option since you don’t physically control the routes your ISP chooses to use.
