Ping suddenly shoots up to 500ms in the middle of a match

I play from India, and i play usually on EU servers in all games. Recently, when I play on ams1 server my ping gets shot upto 500 ms mid game, when the normal ping is and should be around 160 ms.
At the start of the match it is fine at 160-170ms but all of a sudden it shoots upto 350ms-500ms and stays there.

Looks like tcore1 (not sure if that’s the name they operate under or not) is routing through London before sending the connection to Amsterdam. It goes from Delhi to Mumbai to London. You’d have to ask the ISP about this since they pay tcore for routing.

Issue is kind of not there, as up until tcore the ping is normal (150ms). It gets worse after the blizzard hop.
Most games and even most overwatch matches are fine but this happens randomly. And once this issue starts game connects me to Finland servers which has 220-240 ms ping for some reason, and these Finland games will be running just fine.
Sometimes it gets so bad that it disconnects me to the login screen. While the rest of my internet is working perfectly fine, I have a ping test running in the background just to make sure there is no packet loss from my ISP’s end.

This is the WinMTR output for when there is no issue and everything is running fine on the same server IP address - 64.224.26.50.

I didn’t mention anything about your ping, I was discussing the route used. There should not be any reason to route through London before connecting to Amsterdam.

As far as I know, there isn’t a server in Finland. (Edit: Evidently there is now, due to the server reconfiguration.) However, if they changed locations, they wouldn’t have posted about it here since this forum is for the Americas and Oceania; EU has a separate forum.

Thanks for pointing that out, the route used through London is slightly inefficient, but based on how the submarine network cables are laid out it shouldn’t have that much of an impact (if I have to guess I would say ~5 ms of difference).

The GEN1 server is in Finland.
And idk why but Blizzard considers India to be in the Americas.

But still the bigger issue is the random high ping of like 350-500 ms, which just so happens to affect after the blizzard hop.

Okay, good to know and I updated my original reply. However, troubleshooting/reporting issues with an EU server should definitely be posted in the EU forum to alert that team since they aren’t likely to check this forum for reports about their region.

Additionally, I don’t believe Blizzard considers India part of the Americas (Edit: Still unclear on this because of the server destination vs landing on PSE1). You can post in another region’s tech support forums by signing in (but you can’t post in General etc without a license for that region). Choosing the correct link/region is up to the player visiting the forum.

Thanks for the help. I have created a new post on EU forums as well.

They do. Asia is only North East Asia (China, Japan & Korea), Europe is EMEA & the rest of the world is kind of set up to be Americas.

If you were logged into an Americas region, I think you should be landing on the Singapore server, since Oceania is grouped with the Americas. Are you purposefully logged into the EU region on Bnet instead?

The selection of region at the time of login only helps when u log in during busy days, for example if there is a long login queue.
Other than that it has 0 impact ever since the crossplay patch went live. You just get connected to whatever server based on a few variables.

There is a post on this forum that describes how to actually choose servers now.

Are you saying you’re blocking your closest server in Singapore?

I asked the staff about this and they said EU.

Either way, you’re trying to connect to an EU server and experiencing a problem. Please report it in the proper place

Yes, the time at which I play the game I get long queue times and really bad matchmaking. And the closest server is not Singapore it’s middle east server now.

Thanks for confirming that, but the information they offer shows that it’s not EU, even their own region detection will pick up Americas.
I cannot attach a screenshot for some reason, but here’s a link.

I have already created a post for this in EU forums as well.

Blocking servers isn’t officially supported and is something you do at your own risk. They will likely ask that you allow your client to connect to the closest server for the best ping/experience before assisting with troubleshooting.
