People keep saying reworks are bad

I have 2 Overwatch accounts.

  • Roseblite - my main account, this account. This name I have had in games since my first Worgon back when Worgons could be played when I played WOW, an I played that game since the 1st year till the end of Pandaria Expansion.
  • Roseblite2- over 1000 SR higher than my main account. I bought 2 Christmases ago to see how much of a difference a new account’s MMR is from an old account. From the looks of it, substantial.

I enjoy the rework for sym but if we are going for durable turrets. The steel traps of junks should have its durability decreased. I’m not a fond of destroying a rusty hunk of metal with 3 bullets.

Uh, the new turrets have more health. They’re also more damaging. The max turret DPS had to go down because it was insane with all the added flexibility.

Calling new teleporter a taxi is bizarre; she’s used to do much more interesting things than the one, clunky teleport strat she used to offer. Nevermind that her old tp WAS a glorified taxi 99% of the time.

Can still be 1 shotted. But going from this:

to what we have now, well there is no comparison.

But HOW it is used now as opposed to how it was during 1.0 and 2.0, where she could bring her teammates back from Spawn quickly. It was also a good way on attack on 2 CP map to have an entire team back-cap 2nd point.
Now it is used to get either someone high up OR to get people past the 1st choke on a 2 CP map, and that is it. Then even the Pros switch off of Symmetra to a different DPS that puts out more damage. Yeah, not a great improvement.

This isn’t something that is self-evidently true. If they buffed S76’s damage to 36 and then lowered it 16 times, he’d have had 16 nerfs before he got back to being balanced, but this doesn’t mean there was something wrong with the final state.

True, but taking away:

  • Instant Rez outside of Valkyrie
  • Reduced Flight speed in Valkyrie (twice)
  • Taking away 2nd Rez in Valkyrie.
  • Taking away Instant Rez in Valkyrie (this is about Nerf #7, and even TimTheTatMan said, and I quote, “They Nerfed her (Mercy) to the ground. She is useless.”)

Etc. Etc. Etc. Yeah, slightly more involved than just taking away extra damage, which was not Mercy’s problem in the Rework in the first place (though they removed extra damaging pop-gum from Valkyrie from PTR to Live).

Visuals are literally the single most superficial thing.

Also, Symm is worse off by all metrics except tournament play, where’s she is still considered bad.

i’m surprised people even liked the “win more” and “lose more” mechanics of old torb

Original Torbjorn, in the right hands, could be a terror. Head-shot from distance equals insta-kill. Level 3 Turret during Ultimate, especially funny if pulled after dying and while running back from Spawn (got a few POG for that stunt). And extra Armor for the team, even if I had to take chances to get the scrap (before he started earning scrap).

Still, would you feel otherwise, had they immediately gone to Mercy 2.0’s current state with no states in between?

Those aren’t the only options. The team could also do a -good- rework, that maintains the character’s core values while improving the concept. For comparison…

HotS’ Raynor went from EZ-mode rightclicker with low potential to EZ-mode rightclicker whose potential drastically improves with more hands-on play and management.

Versus…

Symmetra, going from area controller, zoning specialist with backstab capabilities to standard DPS with taxi tacked on.

She should not have lost piercing orbs, she shouldn’t have lost photon barrier, nor shield gen, nor ALL the value of her primary, nor half the coverage of her turrets. Symm 3.0 is an entirely different concept with dramatically conflicting concept cores, and it didn’t solve -any- of her issues to boot.

There’s more options between ‘leave it in the bin’ and ‘give it a terrible rework’.

I personally was not a fan of old sym either, but I understand others were. That sucks for them. That’s the only point I was making.

Even if old Sym was “brainless cancer”, there would still be people that enjoyed her that way.

I an tons of other Mercy players would have, and are STILL mad, at the outcome of all this Rework and 16 Nerfs. But if they came out with how she is now for the Rework, people would have been complaining to Jeff 'You promised you would not ruin Mercy, you Ruined Her."
Oh wait, many actually ARE saying that. Plus we have the added BONUS of having more hatred due to “Moth Meta” as well as being a “Must Pick” for 6 months, on top of the already popular “Mercy is ALWAYS hiding” and “Hide and Rez” (even though the best way to use Mass Rez was Tempo Rez of 1-3 people). Yeah, great job there with all the Bonuses he are enjoying now, and instantly being Reportings if we try to play Mercy in Comp…
Yeah, yet I pull out “Huge Rez” spray in QUick Play and get comments of “Man, that is a hard achievement to get.” Then I explain I got it in Season 2, and everyone says “Man, I miss Mass Rez.” This from DPS, Tanks, and fellow Support players.

I dunno what they’re thinking. I’m a support mostly and I consider mass rez the worst thing that’s ever been in the game.

Not everyone is like you. Many people who do not play Supports and many that do liked Mass Rez. I am not saying that your likes and dislikes are any less valid than mine, just different. You can dislike Mass Rez, an it is probably not coming back (yay for you). But I and many others missed the chess game that Mass Rez brought to Overwatch.

Same for me, on both accounts

Torb and Symmetra were once about incorporating tower defense style gameplay into Overwatch, in two different ways.

Sym created objects to defend and could place many turrets, while torbjorn had just one turret which he needed to maintain constantly, as well as collecting the drops it adds to other players, and using them to buff his team.

Now Torbjorn is a crappy version of Reaper who can throw out a pointless shooty thing with shift, and can ult to shoot his goo everywhere. Symmetra’s turrets too, have been changed to things you throw out and never think about, but have been made as similar as they can now to Torb’s turrets while still being a separate ability. She now requires aim to play, the avoidance of which was part of the point of the character, and instead of having one of my favorite ults in the game, she now just has reinhardt’s right-click, except worse because she can’t move it.

In fact, every single rework since launch has been a disaster. You don’t wanna talk about Mercy? Fine, let’s talk about that time Bastion got changed so that his skill ceiling was lower, removing the ability to headshot or operate at range, and he, as already the worst hero in the game at the time, became considerably worse. Then he was never changed again, while power creep ran rampant around him. How 'bout when Hanzo changed from a hero who had to look at the map in a unique way, both to aim his abilities and to move around, and required the ability to predict where your enemy was going to be in the future to actually consistently land shots, got turned into a crappier, spammier, GenJi? Even heroes who’ve barely been changed have been hecked in the butt by patches. Tracer since launch has only been changed to deal 300 damage with her ult instead of 400, but even that change alone was enough to take what was debatably the highest skill hero in the game out of the metagame, leaving even OWL and top 500 to be dominated by triple-tank comps, made up of entirely low skill heroes, which are just boring to launch.

There is literally one hero who is in a better place than they were at launch, and it’s Lucio. Even the heroes who didn’t exist at launch were almost invariably better off that way. Oof.

I am honestly usually happy with reworks on other games as they usually address the problem and add unique stuff. In Overwatch… I only support a rework for McCree because he is just that unsalvagable. Otherwise, I want them to steer clear and not ruin anymore characters. It is just impossible to ruin McCree though. What are people going to miss? Rofl.

Give them time, I am sure they can figure a way ~snickering~
(as in I’m kidding and hope that they don’t make him worst)

I dunno, I bet they could do it if they made his ult go down to 0% when it failed, reduced the reward for pulling of difficult long-range shots, and left his flashbang’s hitbox as an actual literal rotating 2-dimensional triangle.
