People have plenty of options to "have fun" yet come to competitive

My major issue with playing comp is people who clearly haven’t practiced a hero yet come onto this mode just to screw the team over. Like its quite simple if you have played support and nothing but support don’t get on and say “I’m tired of playing support” then just pick a hero you have no experience with. There are plenty more options to play and practice each hero but competitive isn’t for that. Competitive is for people who have experience and know what they are doing. This is immensely frustrating to deal with. You’re basically stuck watching a person perform badly while your team slowly and painfully loses the game all do to a selfish player.

Once you know the basics, the only way to learn new hero is by playing it in comp.

Sure once you know basics but, one should know what to do in what situation and rehearse skills on a hero. Don’t come into a game fullly ignorant and just pick a hero with no experience towards that hero

Have you seen the state of QP?

Also thats really just a test of the hero is when you play in comp. Sure there are things you learn in the various situations but one ought to really know

I am one of these casual players who join comp to have fun. The more fun I have the higher the chances we win the game. How many times did you lose with toxic tryhards?

Now, I do like learning new heroes and bring them to comp. However, I do play several hours in QP and other mods to ensure that I have the mechanical skills needed and basic positioning. Now, I only bring new heroes on attack 1st point on 2cp because I have spawn advantage. As HurrDurr said, you get the basics in qp but you become good and up to your rank in comp.

Enjoy the game you will not make money off it. In fact, you literally waste valuable time in playing this game. Thus, enjoy that waste of time and have fun. IRL isn’t as fun one mistake on an exam and you distorted your GPA as well as any chance of getting a job after college. Have fun it’s just a game.

It isn’t fun to ruin other’s chances at the game. Wow you’re the only one having fun while your team gives an effort to win the objective. Yet you know this and do nothing that isn’t fun at all. Thats being obnoxious to your team. Good if you get the basics in qp like I said before but just running around being plain ignorant is annoying to the team. Also please don’t lecture me on “college GPA Job blah blah” I came here to discuss competitive and so did you otherwise you wouldn’t be in this forum.

Chill dude, I think I know why people ruin your game! Oh god have a mercy on you. Let me explain something, I recently learned Zarya and zen and I get my grav as fast as everyone else on my team ( including Tracer and Genji ). As zen, I will punish anyone who stands still or try to dual me at medium range. Thus, I don’t think I ruined anyone’s experience, but after all, it’s just a game. If you are older then 16 then you need to stop taking this game so seriously and enjoy the game. The more fun you have the more games you will win.

I used to be tryhard and got stuck in 800-1200 bronze forever, season 7 and 8 was my having fun season and screw everything else. Guess what, I got out of bronze and got to gold ( season high with 2200+). I am back to silver now which is okay I will get back to gold sooner then you think

There are two things I need you to understand, 1- I am not lecturing you; I don’t care about a stranger on the internet, 2- your post is not a discussion it’s an attack and pure anger. Chill, I hope I don’t play with you because I want to win!

how is this post an attack because you decided to take offense to it? Literally just telling inexperienced players dont need to pick heroes they have no business playing.

I see.

Back to your topic, if someone has literally no experience on that hero then yeah that is annoying. I can’t disagree with that, but sometimes people want to have fun with their less experienced hero assuming that they can perform within their rank range.

You’re silver border in silver tier with 34 hrs in QP widow with 25 hrs widow for season 8. How has your “practice” with widow helped you climb?

I’m willing to bet your “widow” has screwed more people in comp then you have been screwed. You’re at 1520, as of typing this, I assume you’ve been climbing. So your past 10 games would have been in bronze. You’re sniping at players who are the bottom 10% of the player pool with 37% accuracy.

I’m certainty not high in rank either, but the players I know with similar SR (to myself) have 42% accuracy with more elims per life and are shooting at more active targets.

TLDR - I’m sure your teamates may think you’re screwing the team over rather. Hours in the game (“experience”) isn’t everything. As evidenced by yourself. Some people just have poor aim.

This is the constant lazy response used in comp. I’ve literally said there are MORE options to play whatever you wish. I defend people who choose to do so in quickplay or off season. In a mode where you are to compete. This is like being on a sports team with a goal in mind of winning and you go off and do your own thing and use the excuse of “well I’m on the team I can do as I please”

I am sorry OP but the majority of the playerbase of OW are casual players who are playing this game just to have fun.

That is also the target audience, because guess what? There are way way more casual gamers in the world than there are hardcore wannabe pros.

That’s the reality of it, you just gotta deal with it and try to have a little fun and not take it so seriously.

Edit: I just wanted to add my opinion about the OP comment regarding many players coming straight into competitive with no experience with certain heroes:
In my personal opinion, a lot of those “not tryharding” players would stop playing comp if they removed the golden gun rewards.

I genuinely believe there are many people playing comp just because of the golden guns, and don’t really care about their rank.

I don’t have aims to be a pro but I do intend to win on a competitive mode that the sole purpose is to do just that. Like I said plenty of options to go elsewhere golden guns aren’t even that big deal some default versions have more variety and a better look. There is custom game modes quickplay and arcade so no one has an excuse. Plus one of their most marketed things is is OWL (even though I’m not a fan of it) but just no real excuse to play comp and mess up the game. One Ill never have fun when I’m trying to win and a person is intentionally ruining that

People like you are reason why personal based performance should never be removed from ranks belowed diamond.

Asking people to take overwatch comp serious by playing only heroes they are experienced with is a reasonable request

Casual players are unreliable for long term business prospects. Lose your serious hard core gaming base and you will eventually be done as a business.

Microsoft and Nintendo got burnt bad for catering casual gamers cause they are flaky here today and gone tomorrow

Can only really learn a hero in comp. Sure, can learn the basic control elsewhere (and you should), but there’s simply no way that a hero I’ve only played in QP will be up to the level I have hundreds of hours on.

Well unless they give an option to earn those golden gun points in other, non seasonal modes, you’re going to have a certain group of players doing whatever in comp.

I will also agree that there’s a certain level of proficiency you can only get to by playing a character in comp, but I do agree that there should be practice done in other modes first so you feel comfortable on them.

Yes and that is the problem here.

Poeple play Arcade more seriously than QP. Poeple whined about hero limit in QP. QP should be an “Unranked” not “I dont care” mode.

Poeple shouldnt be coming into Ranked for “practice”, just because ranked is only place where you have a chance to find a healer slave actually trying to win.
