OWL Summer Showdown - LAG vs PAR, BOS vs FLA, TOR vs VAN

If I could I would say to them,
“Get a shield of some kind to block Rein’s shatter.”
Rein’s shatter in OWL is no joke.
:grimacing:

LOL!!!

Reinforce, “The mosquito has been defeated.”
(Yaki’s Tracer was the mosquito)
:joy:

NOW WE’RE TALKING!!!
MAYHEM BRINGS OUT THE REIN!!!
:muscle:

Eggforce theatrics notwithstanding, the Boston Uprising take the series!

FINAL (Match 2)

Nepal (Control): Boston Uprising 2, Florida Mayhem 1.

King’s Row (Hybrid): Boston Uprising 3, Florida Mayhem 3 (DRAW).

Junkertown (Escort): Boston Uprising 3, Florida Mayhem 2.

Volskaya Industires (Assault): Boston Uprising 3, Florida Mayhem 2.

FINAL SCORE: Boston Uprising 3, Florida Mayhem 0

BOSTON UPRISING WINS!

The Boston Uprising get a 2-0 week and will be atop the Summer Showdown standings entering Week 2 of qualifier matches. For the Mayhem, this was by far a disappointing week and another sign of regression after finishing World 3rd in the May Melee. As if the signs of regression and 0-2 week didn’t ring enough alarm bells, the Mayhem are now BELOW the Spitfire in the Summer Showdown leaderboard…a first this season!

Speaking of bottom of the leaderboard, now we’re on to the Battle for Canada, as the Defiant go up against the Titans. Will the Titans fans finally get their breadsticks? Or will Canada go hungry for another week? We’re about to find out!

Edit:

I’m pretty sure the only person who had Boston 3-0 is your cousin…from BOS-TON!

*Note: My misquote of that commercial does not guarantee that said beer from said commercial won’t taste like crap…

Gangnamjin?

Ooof my pick’ems are hurting tonight

I’m from the UK I have literally no idea what you’re talking about :joy:

Reinforce needs a haircut.

At this point, it looks like bird nesting material.
:bird:
:egg:

Busta and Custa should kiss :eyes:

It’s an ad campaign for Boston-based Samuel Adams beer. Basically, the cousin from Bos-ton goes around being a (expletive) at various “sanctuary places” like the golf course or a wedding while sharing Sam Adams beer with some unsuspecting people.

The latest ad involved the cousin passing out while getting a COVID vaccine, and while passed out, he had a vision of the future in which he gave hugs to random strangers before leading a “INDOOR BEERS” chant inside a Boston area bar.

I’m sure you can find a bunch of those ads on YouTube if you type in “Sam Adams Boston cousin commercial” in the search.

Yeah, and Custa might need one after this as well.

If it weren’t for the fact Americans can’t legally transfer a coupon to anyone outside of your family anymore, I’d seriously consider transfering my “$5 off Sports Clips’ MVP Haircut Experience” coupon to the desk…cos I’m sure Custa and Reinforce are going to wake up tomorrow and probably need a pick-me-up after Sideshow let loose a bunch of NSFW words on broadcast…

Sombra and Tracer?

Look at the comps they are playing.
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I am starting to think the teams are given a comp agenda from some unknown influence.

WARNING! WARNING! Canada is likely in serious danger of going hungry again!

AFTER MAP 2 (Match 3)

Eichenwalde (Hybrid): Toronto Defiant 3, Vancouver Titans 0

That interview.
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Danny? Did he really say all of that with the short phrases he said?

“I win! No breadsticks for you, Canada!”

-Toronto Defiant, probably

FINAL (Match 3)

Oasis (Control): Toronto Defiant 2, Vancouver Titans 1.

Eichenwalde (Hybrid): Toronto Defiant 3, Vancouver Titans 0.

Route 66 (Escort): Toronto Defiant 2, Vancouver Titans 0.

FINAL SCORE: Toronto Defiant 3, Vancouver Titans 0

TORONTO DEFIANT WINS!

The Defiant go 2-0 on the week and are +4 in map differential, good enough for second place in NA entering Week 2. For the Titans, it’s back to the NA standings cellar for them.

Here’s the NA Summer Showdown standings after Week 2:

Boston Uprising 2-0 (2 League Points) (+5)
Toronto Defiant 2-0 (2 League Points) (+4)
Paris Eternal 2-0 (2 League Points) (+3)
Los Angeles Gladiators 1-1 (1 League Points) (+0)
San Francisco Shock 1-1 (1 League Points) (+0)
Atlanta Reign 0-0 (0 League Points) (+0)

-Cutoff-

Dallas Fuel 0-0 (0 League Points) (+0)
Houston Outlaws 0-0 (0 League Points) (+0)
Washington Justice 0-0 (0 League Points) (+0)
London Spitfire 0-2 (0 League Points) (-3)
Florida Mayhem 0-2 (0 League Points) (-4)
Vancouver Titans 0-2 (0 League Points) (-5)

Some shockers to note: The Spitfire are no longer Bottom 2 basement dwellers! Ok, so they’re still 0-2. Still, getting a -3 week as opposed to a -6 week as has been the case for the first 2 tournaments is a baby step forward for the Spitfire. And if Sparkr continues revitalizing the team over the course of their remaining 2 matches here in the Summer Showdown…well, anything is possible in the Countdown Cup, especially once we know the play-in tournament/playoff format and the top teams start resting their starters/testing their backups.

Elsewhere in the standings, I once again impress upon the thread participants how significant the Shock’s 1-1 week was. A 1-1 week for the 2-time defending champs was already bad enough, but throw in the fact they barely broke even on map differential and were a mistake or two away from going 0-2 on the week should ring alarm bells at Shock HQ. Crusty and the Shock should not take the Eternal or the Outlaws lightly next week, especially since 1 team is currently 2-0 this tournament cycle and the other has already taken a match against the Shock this season. A loss against either team might spell disaster for the Shock in terms of their chances to make the Summer Showdown, while a loss to the Outlaws could also be disastrous in terms of tiebreakers later on.

Finally, the Paris Eternal have, at least for the moment, have decided they are done being cellarmasters, and have gone 2-0 on the week. Add in the Mayhem’s regression and the Uprising’s 2-0 week, and now the Florida Mayhem, previously thought of as a gatekeeper of the top teams, is now looking instead more like a team opponents must beat if they want to be thought of as more than a basement-dwelling team…at least, based on this week’s results.

Regardless, that’s it for now. Matches will kick off again on Friday at high noon Pacific (3pm Eastern) with a now crucial match between the Paris Eternal and the San Francisco Shock. Will the Eternal prove that this week wasn’t a fluke? Will Crusty be able to help the Shock roster regain the composure and decision-making that saw him bring 2 League Championships to San Francisco? And how will the 4 latecomers fare in their opening matches of the Summer Showdown? We’ll find out next week. Until then, enjoy your week, and be sure to send your prayers for a speedy recovery to Bren, and please send your thoughts and prayers to Reinforce and Custa after some casting near-disasters. We’ll see what craziness unfold next week. Thanks as always to WyomingMyst for providing these threads. Until Friday, from our wonderful host WyomingMyst, I’m Arena25 saying Good Night and Charlie Niners.

As someone who is not familiar with Chinese, Korean, or Japanese, I’m afraid I cannot confirm or deny whatever Danny is saying. However, I will say that back in the 2019 season (when threads like this could easily reach 400 posts for just one match), some of the regulars in these threads accused Danny of slightly twisting the words of interviewee’s responses to post-match questions to be slightly more…what’s the word…spicy (and there is another word that would better describe what people were accusing him of, however I don’t want to get tossed from the forums just yet). However, they were only rumors/hypotheses cos they were never confirmed. Food for thought.

Have a great rest of your week, my friends. See you Friday afternoon!
