I forgot how much I loved playing Zarya. You actually have to think about buble management instead of what it is currently where 95% of the time the answer to “Who should I bubble” is always “myself”.

I dont think you realize you often get a faster power charge by shielding your team rather then yourself because they will want to kill your backline first. Just remember that her strength is only in keep her beam powered as much as possible

Zarya receives the same charge no matter what is barrier’ed. It is capped, right now on OWC, at 50%.
Currently, and the way they designed it originally, the Projected Barrier thar you use on your team, has a lower cooldown than the one you use on yourself, by about two seconds.
Right now, in OWC, Zarya’s beam ignores armor resistance due to a bug. So you’ll melt most targets with primary fire at max charge.
Zarya and Rein are the two strongest Tanks in OWC at this time.
Unless someone decides to kamikazi into your backline, you are more likely to get charge by bubbling yourself because I can literally intentionally eat damage. Solo frontlining with a missing bubble and low charge is a recipe for a dead zarya which is why the devs keep trying to trick people into using projected barrier on teammates by making them look bigger.
I didn’t take to Zarya the first time around, but in OWC I’m really enjoying her.

even if you know that doesn’t mean her gameplay as a main tank lets you focus on that, as a main tank zarya you have to FRONTLINE, you don’t have time to analyze the battle from behind a main tank and decide who is needing the bubble the most, you can play safer and protect your team just like all the other offtanks, offtank gameplay in ow1 is about that, when you need to stay alive at all costs for ow2 you reduce this level of complexity in offtank gameplays, your point doesn’t change the fact that her gameplay is better and more strategic in ow1

I argued against universal bubble charge all the way back since that joke mode that tested the system out in OW1. Yep, the bubble-for-me, bubble-for-thee system is superior, even if I do enjoy playing Zarya wrong and spending all my bubbles on other people as much as humanly possible.

OW1’s iteration of Zarya is the reason I became a Zarya one trick in the first place.
Yeah it was an adjustment learning how to play her again in the ‘sequel’, but I still find her just as fun.
