No it’s intended. One of the devs explained her new visuals on twitter
God all her effects look like they tried to make her look “realistic” and don’t look Symmetra at all. And yeah, the teleporter looks awful.
This has got to be a difference in taste because I thought it looked fantastic and might be one of my favorite visual upgrades.
while i like her beam and secondary, the teleporter does look weird and unfinished or something. it wouldnt hurt to make the outline bolder
Personally, I’m more put off by the fact that they altered her physical appearance, namely her figure… Symettra’s wide-set hips were part of what made her visually distinctive from the rest of the cast, and they appear to be more narrow with her new appearance.
Reducing the sex appeal of their Heroines isn’t going to help Blizzard distance themselves from the allegations of sexual harassment.
I don’t think that was the thinking because they did not reduce it for all of them.
Hopefully they won’t because it would require them to essentially remake all of her legacy skins to fit her new, more petite figure, but I can’t fathom why else they shrunk down Symmetra’s hips.
I’ll say I think for a screenshot and reduced visual clutter it looks decent, specially seeing through the tp
But I feel like just as orisa’s javelin, it gives very poor visual feedback, so as orisa I constantly felt like “did I hit it?”, So with sym I’d be like “oh there’s a tp?”

I feel like the TP ‘‘bars’’ could be better if there was like, energy joining them or something. But otherwise they look like blue macaroni art.

I remember when they first transfered her to 3.0 her primary looked like a horrible battering ram.
No, they look like they tried to make them look “realistic” and that’s not what this game is. All of her effects are white instead of blue, her teleporter looks so awful, I don’t even know how to describe it, and her orbs aren’t even orbs, they’re weird crystal things.
i agree, almost photorealistic water does feel out of place here. but i guess we can expect more detail and less of the stylisation that we fell in love with. now that we’ve freed up some processing power with 2 less players we need something to spend it on ![]()

The new teleporter looks really cool with all crystalized light fractal sort of design.
But I do think that her secondary fire orbs needs to be more vibrant, to show its actual hitbox.
Like, maybe the orb can shine light in a spherical fashion to outline the exact hitbox.
Because the polygonal design of the orb makes it hard to tell how to snipe it, on a pixel-perfect level.
Well, that does make sense, since visible light is white.
And all her hard-light effects are white, with a hint of blue, for allied Symmetras & red for enemies.
And the fractal light design makes it feel like she does bend & manipulate light.
Sym is a light bender from the light empire & no fire nation can compete with that.
Exactly what I said about making it too realistic. Like, what was wrong with her design before? Nothing, this is change for the sake of change (like most visual effect updates they did that drastically changed how things look). But I guess it’s there to sell people on the idea that this game is a new game and not an update.
