OW2 is a mistake

They called it a sequel to make the suits happy. They thought making a sequel was a good idea because CoD does it and it makes them money but they don’t realize OW needs longevity.

Jeff and the team are trying to dangle the carrot in their face so they shut up lol

It’s not a sequel. The name of the game is misleading.

OW is the online PVP - where the game doesn’t take place in any particular time-line.

OW2 picks up from OW’s intro with Winston. This game is going to be a PVE that will solely focus on the lore of the OW universe.

The last new map we got was Havana, that was almost two years ago I believe? (my math could be wrong though)

The only thing some of us will be paying for is PvE and at least a new default skin for each hero.

PvP players still get all the new PvP maps, heroes, game modes, game engine upgrade, graphics, etc.

New heroes fit into the new lore being written for OW2. So it doesn’t make sense to release them now. It’s better to package them all up and release them FOR FREE with the next chapter in the story. Besides, some of those heroes probably have abilities & graphics that might just require the overhaul to the game engine to look and behave the way the Devs want but can’t quite achieve in the current engine. :man_shrugging:t2:

Memory restrictions on console make this difficult. Now more than ever since it’s on the switch.

Unlikely. The game itself isn’t likely to have any ampere specific optimizations, and they likely wouldn’t delay the PC release just for next gen consoles. They’d simply release it once the consoles come out.

I’m curious why you suspect the game is delayed, though?

You don’t know everything about Overwatch 2. If you’re not a developer working on Overwatch 2, you don’t know everything about the game. Therefore you cannot say it’s a mistake. It’s not released yet. Sequels don’t always take 5 years to make, and extended updates to the same game does NOT bring in new players. Overwatch 2 is fine.

They started developing/thinking about Overwatch 2 when they launched the first archives event which is when they started to go now in depth with the Overwatch backstory.

Now they basically finished telling most of the backstory, they are deciding to tell us the current story with a game focused on the story

What is even free content at this point? I paid 60$ for this game (physic PS4 legacy copy) because I knew that despite it being literally a f2p game (barely any heroes and few gamemodes, no story mode) the dev team promised me that they would keep the game alive with free heroes, maps, skins and gamemodes and also new events that will keep the fresh with constant updates and new content. I didnt mind, I knew this game was focused on its mutiplayer and thats what I wanted, so i paid without any regrets.

Thanks good your not a dev, you wouldve killed this game.

I love Jeff, we all know he has to deal with those greedy businessman from Activision, Im 100% sure he just wants the best for the game, but he is in a hard position rn. So yeah, thats where that lead him.

Covid-19 probably. Might’ve made them hit a snag in voice acting and not all
home computers are probably good enough to handle coding maybe, idk.

Dude like your getting free stuff in a couple months.

Even then we are still getting balance changes, new features, events with new(ish) stuff to do.

As Epic games(fortnight people) have overworked their employees to achieve that content in that time.

Even new fortnight content can litterialy be boiled down to a new chunk of the map, and an item or two that are maybe as complex as a single ability in OW.

Like you are still getting free stuff down the line, a new game mode, 5 new Heroes at launch. and another 3 plus years of content to go with it.

Give the devs time to do their thing.

Also covid is a *******

I mean they could easily code on any computer, its just that they might not be able to Test their code on some lower end systems.

actually it releasing on PS4 and xbox wouldn’t be surprised if they released a little sooner.

I guess I was more wondering that based on the way they phrased their post, it made it sound like there were massive delays and it was supposed to be release a year ago or something.

I have no doubt that covid has caused some difficulties, though most software companies I’ve seen so far have actually not been highly affected by it after the initial adjustment period.

Havana was released last year in early may.

Thanks for the clarification, but that means that we’ve gone a full year with no new map/map changes. I understand that OW2 is their big play, but with nothing to really do in OW (I tried achievement hunting but it still didn’t keep me invested) I have been leaning more towards other games at the moment (like VALORANT, League of Legends, and some of the older games I brushed off of my shelf). As a business (or live-service) you have to keep the masses captivated, and while we are just now getting teasers for the Summer Games, something tells me it’s going to be the same event with just new skins and nothing more (maybe some new achievements but I won’t get my hopes up).

Honestly if your looking for something new I would just stick with other tittles for now, treat it abit like how you would a single player game.

eventually their going to make a squeal, but till then might as not limit your self to just OW.

And believe me the devs are expecting you to do so. As their doing just enough to keep you engage at least once or twice a month. But they know they can’t hold you attention forever.

Tru tru. Tru dat.
I was just thinking about this actually.
The hardware optimizations (if any, even) would have to be done at the driver level (Nvidea’s side).

I dunno.

Delayed may have been the wrong word to use. I’d say…ready would be a more accurate way of putting it

Anyways, i thought the release was to be simultaneos, multi-platform sort of thing. Either way, i just cant wait that im making up stuff for them for not being ready to release sooner. LOL

4 years of playing this game, the dedication , the repeativeness, the toxicity, the joys, the laughs, the good teammates who wouldnt be excited, amirite?

It’s called entitlement. All these threads reek of it. You literally can’t please those types of people as they will always find a way to complain about it.

This is the same as launching Fornite 2 instead of just upgrading the current game with content. Overwatch is a game as a service, it doesnt need PVE, it never did, but thanks to the the minority that cried about it now were getting lame events and lack of content until they finish OW2.

Fortnite has a PVE but the battle royale took over so no one knows it exists and plays it
