Well with the power of hindsight we learned a lot from the launch of OW2.
we learned there never was an OW2 besides the bare minimum token effort for marketing purposes to pretend an OW2 was being worked on. That way they were able to save money by never bothering with new content for OW1 because "it’s all going into the (non existent ow2).
OW2 was just a front to get people to not reject a cash shop IMO because people actually paid a physical price for OW1 so blizzard needed a way to justify this as an “Upgrade” instead of basically hoodwinking everyone who paid for OW1 to begin with.
OW2 isn’t even real, sticking a “2” on ow is literally there for what ever legal purpose it serves so they don’t have to refund people who paid for the game imo.
It’s literally the same exact game with only the normal patches it would have gotten over the years anyway had it just kept on going as OW1… Seriously what NEW thing do we even have that OW1 didnt have? OW1 got new hero launched every couple seasons (until ow2 announced). OW1 got new arcade modes every couple seasons, OW1 got story missions (which HONESTLY are better imo than what ever dribble we got in ow2), ow1 had literally everything OW2 has.
