Overwatch vs Team fortress 2 (NOT about skill)

I look at them as very different games despite the obvious similarities between objectives and some of the characters.

TF2 is designed to be a fun goof off kind of game, not to be taken super seriously which is why people have never really cared too much about things like random crits, the sticky launcher being so good, or certain classes like the Pyro being a little UP.

Overwatch is trying much more to be a more serious game with a greater emphasis on strategy, team comp, ability usage, and all that jazz. This means it can be a more frustrating experience - I never really minded having 3 Spies on my team the way I mind 5 DPS comps - but when played in an organized fashion I think it reaches a higher level. TF2 competitive never seemed all that great to me with nothing but scouts, soldiers, a demo and a medic on both teams.

So I love them both for different reasons. My two cents

tbh You can’t compare both

I mean TF2 is a classic by now

also kinda weird because the trading market kinda screwed itself up

And this is exactly why i don’t think Overwatch is a fun game. It only reaches out to 0.7% of the playerbase.

TF2 is reaching out to everyone. You can play casual and have tons of fun, you can play competitive and have tons of fun.

That’s just 6 vs 6 though.

The only other competitive mode I was aware of (it’s possible there were some that I missed because I largely didn’t care) was a 9v9 mode that avoided problems of imbalance by forcing a meta.

No, the forced meta was 6 vs 6.

In 9 vs 9 (aka Highlander), you had to play with all 9 characters. Which was the whole point with it

Maybe I’m remembering it wrong, but in 6v6 you could (theoretically) play with anyone, right? But almost every team ran Medic, Demo, 2 Soldiers, 2 Scouts because it was the best lineup.

And in Highlander you had to have one of each which was a forced meta. I doubt that teams would have used Pyro and Spy in that mode if they didn’t have to.
