Hero Tips

This section has hero tips and tricks brought to you by our fellow forum users.

Heroes (A-Z)
A

Ana

  1. Ana’s gun can act as either projectile or hit scan depending on whether you hip fire (projectile) or scope in (hit scan).
  2. You can use Ana’s grenade on enemies to deny critical healing to help secure kills. This is especially useful against Roadhog’s take a breather or Zenyatta’s transcendence.
B

Bastion

  1. Use heal between tank shots. It doesn’t reduce his rate of fire.
  2. Tracer can not one shot bastion with pulse bomb while he is in sentry form. If you get stuck, stay in sentry form, and then immediately begin healing once the bomb detonates.

Brigitte

  1. Brigitte’s ult can be cast before a fight begins to give your team both a health advantage and to allow you to start building ult charge back up during the fight, which means faster and more frequent ults.
D

Doomfist

  1. Rocket punch is a great mobility tool. If you press Jump button while travelling, you will boost yourself fast forward. That will help you cover greater distances
  2. Don’t dive enemy team with Uppercut-Slam combo. You will lose two of your abilities, deal damage with only one and will be left with only Rocket punch
  3. Combo your skills to maximize damage. You can also use Hand Cannon between two skills to deal more damage
  4. Do not initiate team fights as Doomfist. Leave this to your tanks. Instead, you should focus alone or mispositioned targets.
  5. You don’t have to fully charge Rocket punch to make it useful. You still can deal decent amount of damage with it and stun your target.

Genji

Hanzo

Junkrat

  1. The best way to use Junkrat effectively is to always make sure u have 1 mine available, i almost never throw 2 mines into the other team unless i know the teamfight is won i do this so i always have a way out if i need it
  2. Don’t go for big rip tires usually its best to go for 1 or 2 or even kill that person using there ultimate especially if it is a Genji or soldier as they have some of the best ults in the game
  3. Never use rip tire and immediately try to kill someone run rip tire into a wall doing this doesn’t make it quieter anymore :frowning: but the other team will usually forget about it (yes even in grandmaster) wait about 5 seconds and then turn the corner and kill someone
  4. Try to use rip tires creatively don’t keep them on the ground try to drop them from above most people don’t look up also its quieter in the air then on the ground
  5. the default controls for Junkrat, the goal of Junkrat is to kill as fast as possible, the default controls don’t allow that are not that good i use right click for ability 1 mouse wheel down for ability 2 and E for secondary fire
  6. I’m a grandmaster Junkrat player if u have any questions, want help on a specific map or want me to review your gameplay you can add SPGG#1994 and ill see what i can do
L

Lucio

  1. Communicate with your team to speed boost through troublesome choke points to help enable your team’s attack.
  2. Stay near and keep an eye on your fellow support heroes so you can help peel for them when they are getting attacked.
  3. Lucio’s knock back (Soundwave) is more effective when enemies are moving away from you - something to keep in mind when they’re playing near cliffs.
  4. Lucio’s ult has a long cast time, don’t make it longer by jumping before pressing Q!
  5. Lucio’s ultimate shields are able to be applied to allies not originally in your line of sight when cast if you move into their sight line quick enough.
  6. The number in the middle of your screen is the number of heroes within your aura. Try to position yourself to keep it as high as possible.
  7. Lucio is the only hero who decelerates to a stop versus stopping immediately. Use this to your advantage in firefights to move back and forth unpredictably to make yourself aggravating to hit.
  8. Roadhog still has a chance to miss his combo when he hooks you. Switch to/stay on healing and jump back to mitigate damage versus trying to speed away.

Mercy

  1. Check her hero specific settings, and mess with them until you are comfortable. You may be more effective based on these settings.
  2. You can preform an “Angel Slingshot” by using Guardian Angel and holding Space and Shift after reaching a certain momentum.
  3. Using an “Angel Slingshot” before preforming a risky Rez in Valkyrie can make it harder for the enemy to hit you.
  4. Do not attempt the above trick if you are around the end of Valkyrie’s duration. It will likely cancel the Rez.
  5. Using Guardian Angel to an ally that is at a higher elevation than you will allow you to fly up. This includes allies who are simply jumping.
  6. If an ally is extremely close to you and standing on an object at a slightly higher elevation, you can use Guardian Angel on them to launch yourself into the air.
  7. When using Valkyrie, don’t just fly into the air. Try to find cover, because various other heroes will easily be able to take you out of the sky.
  8. When Doomfist uses Rising Uppercut on you, do not use Angelic Descent. You will continue to be pushed backwards without any control over your movement.
  9. You can still use Guardian Angel after Doomfist has used Rising Uppercut on you. Be sure to utilize that.
  10. Put DMG boost as your default. Boost the DPS to gain more ult charges and makes your offensive assists looks neat. Remember this isn’t TF2, you can’t over heal someone.
  11. She have a decent gun, use it. Not only for defending yourself, but for offensive purposes too. Don’t DMG boost if someone is in a 1v1, pop the gun out and make it a 2v1. Delete them yourself.

Moira

  1. When your team isn’t in danger, try to use your primary in bursts. It will passively heal your allies for a short time. This will save some of your healing for the next team fight.
  2. After a team fight, don’t heal your team with primary fire. Tell them to pick up health packs or use a healing orb. Save your primary heals for the next fight.
O

Orisa

  1. Payloads eat her supercharger so be careful about where you place it on escort maps.
  2. If an enemy walks through your shield to duel and you’re on cool down, move back and forth between your shield to mitigate damage-- aka, “shield dance.”
  3. Use Halt on an enemy above their heads versus pulling them to the side. It’s easier to shoot a stunned enemy that’s falling.
  4. Orisa speeds up considerably when she’s not shooting, so if you need distance, run away versus backing up while shooting.
P

Pharah

  1. Use the concussion blast sparingly. It is useful for knocking enemies around, but it is far better to use as horizontal movement in the air to get yourself out of trouble.
R

Reaper

  1. Always keep your Wraith Form cooldown on watch. Especially when coming against a close-range character like Brigette. Be at mid-distance when attacking an enemy before determining it’s safe. If not and you’re losing a considerable amount of health, Wraith to your nearest health pack or healer.
  2. When you’re Reaper, your priority list should always be one with the shield. Tell your teammates to dish out the damage with you as you can deal immense damage and leave the enemy vulnerable.
  3. When you’re in the heat of the fight, never be the center of it. Though you can wraith form out of there, there is a chance an enemy can decide to pick you out.
  4. When an enemy’s health is small, alone or with a small group, and they are blocking cargo or point, play aggressive and take them out in this order, Healer, DPS, and Tank. It’s true that a tank is the main priority but if there are other heroes backing them up, it’s going to be difficult to take them out.

Reinhardt

Roadhog

  1. Look at the ground while healing to make it harder for enemies to headshot you.
  2. Use take a breather to help reduce the damage from large explosions such as self destruct and pulse bomb.
  3. Don’t use take a breather if you don’t need to. Sometimes it’s better for your supports to heal you and gain ultimate charge.
S

Soldier: 76

  1. After five shots, the fire of Soldier’s Pulse Rifle spreads out and becomes less accurate. Instead of holding the trigger, try burst firing instead!

Sombra

  1. Look at the kill feed before you use EMP, the last thing you want is to ult and then realize your whole team is dead
  2. Try to flank from the high ground
  3. Try to make the enemy tank a primary target for your hack
  4. Try to focus fire the healer, that way they won’t be pocketing the tank that is already hacked (if you did it correctly)
  5. Don’t get greedy for kills! Translocate if you need to. Yes the Zenyatta is at 1 hp and so are you, you’re however better off just teleporting and giving it another go than risking your deletion from the fight.

Symmetra

  1. Prioritize Symmetra>Support>DPS>Tanks. Always focus down those who don’t have mobility. Zen and Ana is the perfect example.
  2. Charge up your beam with Orisa’s or Winston’s shields for a surprise boost in damage. But don’t over do it, you don’t want to go in with an empty gun.
  3. Flank during a team fight, not after or before it. While their Tanks are being distracted by your team, you can sneak in and delete their Supports. Always take out the main Healer first.
  4. Save your shield for ults. They can block DVa’s bombs and Pulse Bombs, don’t forget that.
  5. Don’t even try to flank if you don’t have either a pocket Mercy or a Shield Gen up. You will die.
  6. Before you microwave someone, fire an orb for additional damage. They will die much faster.
  7. Your team lose point A as the Defending team and you are the only survivor? Don’t just go on the point and suicide, it’s useless. Use that time you have and spawn camp them instead. They won’t see that coming. :smiling_imp::smiling_imp::smiling_imp:
  8. Place your ult based on the enemies comp. Tracer, Genji, Winston? Put it somewhere near you so you can protect it. DVa, Pharah, Widow? Put it in a house to avoid it from being spotted on air/a far. A Shield Gen or TP on high ground is always good in most situations.
  9. Use emote to peek the enemies through walls and corners, without revealing yourself. You can see Hoshizora used this a lot in their games.
  10. Fire your orbs at enemies spawn door for early ult charges. Do it around 5 last seconds but you can shorten or lengthen the time based on your position and maps.
T

Torbjorn

Tracer

W

Widowmaker

  1. Change your position often. A good Widow is a Widow that can never be spotted or predicted.
  2. Don’t wait for the shots to be fully charged. You can already one shot most of the roster with 70%.
  3. Always placed down your venom mine after relocate. You can throw it onto your feet after being jumped to deal some damage.
  4. Always aware of where your crosshair is. Makes sure it always at the right place at the right time 24/7.
  5. You can shoot yourself up into the air by pressing Space before the Grapple ends.

Winston

Z

Zarya

  1. Use bubbles reactively, not aggressively. Wait until yourself or a teammate is under heavy fire before using the bubble.

Zenyatta

  1. Using discord does not harm your rate of fire. Spam it between shots.
  2. Use melee to cancel orb volley.
  3. A discorded headshot/melee combo will one shot tracer.

General

Map Related

  1. On payload maps, the payload will heal the attacking team if they are in its radius for 10hp per second.

Miscellaneous

  1. It’s best not to play competetive if you have bad internet.
  2. Within the controls section of your settings, there is a drop down around the top right corner of the screen. You can access hero specific settings here.
  3. Tab often to know who in your team is dead or alive and how much ult charge do they have. It’s super important.
  4. Always be aware of where your healers are and come back to them often. Don’t spam for heals if you are half way across the map from them. They won’t give you any.
  5. Pick up your Mercy after they respawn. It’s the fastest way to get a pocket healer.

What just happened??

Oh.

“Accidentally…” I wouldn’t be surprised if it was on purpose. Happens a lot, really. >.>
*I think I’m going to go through and change the dropdowns a bit. Hope you all don’t mind, I’m a bit of a neat freak.

Yeah, I gave up when I saw that multiple people trying to help edit and add at the same time doesn’t actually help at all. It’s writes over everything added after you started the edit if you’re not careful
