It’s a Korean article, but your browser should provide a rough translation https://news.mtn.co.kr/news-detail/2025042808165242317
Found out about it here https://x.com/OverwatchNaeri/status/1916706369547440206
It seems a Korean studio, Nexon, will likely secure the rights to develop a Starcraft mobile game, which may or may not be an RTS, and to distribute in their region an Overwatch mobile game, which was developed by Blizzard themselves and is a MOBA
Hopefully this will get a proper translation soon
Keep in mind MOBA has come to encapsulate more than 3 lanes with a jungle over the years, and if it’s for mobile first it may be simplified. Also a decent number of OW heroes were already in a MOBA, and also OW’s current cast is much smaller than the average MOBA, which should make things interesting. Also note that all of Blizzard’s currently active mobile games are available on PC
Actually it would be interesting if it wasnt mobile, imagine something like stadium but instead of the classic modes we had the classic moba elements, like minions, bases , bosses and so on, and the game instead of being top down, let it be 3rd person like stadium, now that would be interesting
It was such a good game. The problem is it was marred by too much teamwork. We all know 99% of every player base wants to be on a team but hates teamwork.
Nah, T3 arena is a 3rd person hero shooter. It was awesome until it lost its devs. It’s pretty much a clone of OW for mobile. There is no games like it on the market. Blizz needs to make a game like that with OW. That’s the best mobile game I ever played. I only don’t because they stopped adding new content years ago. MOBAs are all the same and so boring. I hope this isn’t true. I thought we’re getting a hero shooter from Blizzard on mobile not some scammy MOBA with OW skins from a random Korean company. Ugh, the idea of it is disappointing. Just another garbage mobile game. I really thought it’d be like T3 arena. Why wouldn’t it be?
It’s not even close. That genre is stagnant and boring. OW is a hero shooter.
It flopped. That’s why they’re calling it OW and not HOTS. If this is true, it’s totally scammy BS.
a moba pffff jajajaja, with lol on mobile and pokemon unite for casual moba fans who wants to play ow moba? at least a blizzard moba would be logic, oh wait, they already did that and killed the game for no reason, like ow
but ow2 developers hate ow so much they want to make it something that isnt anyway so, who cares, a match 3 game would be nice, a casino online, why not? a real fps? nah, too crazy
If the mobile version is just going to be a clone of PC version but with touch controls, I don’t think I’m interested.
But to be fair, hero shooter with MOBA elements like Overwatch is slightly more adaptable to mobile interface as opposed to Valorant mobile. A highly competitive, aim-intensive FPS game like Valorant coming out on mobile makes even less sense to me.
I think the only mobile game I got hooked into and felt was well designed were two games from Supercell: Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. I spent hours playing those two games on my iPad. Indie games, Rogue-like games, Turn-based games, and Card games seems to play nicely on touch interace as well.
But aside from that, there aren’t really that many mobile games that I felt were well designed. I’d rather play games on console or PC instead if I want to have a full experience.
But I guess for video game companies to be pushing mobile games like this, there must be a lot of casual playerbase who likes to play games on their phone. So practicality of certain video game genres not being optimal for user experience on their mobile phone with small screen and touch interace probably doesn’t bother them.
