Overwatch freezed without crashing

Hello,

I was just playing ranked like normal and suddenly my game completely froze. I was not able to do anything. Alt+F4 did not work and I had to press stop task in the task manager for almost 15 times until the game closed.

Restarting the game before PC restart was not possible.

I just experienced this once, but I really wanted to ask if this has a solution, because I really do not want this to happen ever again. When I rejoined the game was just over and now I have a 30 minutes ban because of Overwatch randomly disconnecting a few days ago.

My PC is quite high end and with:

  • GPU: MSI Geforce RTX 2070 Gaming X
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
  • RAM: 16Gb @3200mhz
  • Drive: Samsung 970 evo 500Gb

I was not running anything special in the background. It was just Chrome and Discord and my driver programs in the Background (Razer Synapse, Corsair ICue…)

Any suggestions?

Hey ChuckN0rr1s,

It looks like you are getting Rendering Device Lost errors and renaming the Overwatch file has helped some players.

I’d recommend testing the game without going into competitive matches until you are sure this has been resolved though. If this persists, then try the rest of the steps here.
