Overwatch Contenders 2022 Schedule - Earn Skins

Since the official Overwatch Contenders page doesn’t automatically adjust schedules to your local time zone and because I am terrible at doing time zone conversion, thought I would borrow WyomingMyst’s format from the old Rewards Guide topic so I could have a one stop shop to see the Overwatch Contenders schedule for a given month, in order. If the guide somehow helps you out too then :100:

DISCLAIMER I’m creating this guide in my free time; I don’t work for Blizzard so I can’t support you as to why you did not receive skin X after watching Y number of hours. I also make no promises that there won’t be scheduling errors, in the past they have incorrectly posted the start times of matches or made last minute changes.

Overwatch Contenders Past Month Skins

The following heroes have already had their Contenders skins available in past Overwatch Contenders promotional months.
At this time there are no plans to re-release these skins in future promotions.

Month Tier 1 Tier 2
October 2020 Symmetra* - 7 hours Mercy* - 15 hours
November 2020 Torjborn - 7 hours Lucio - 15 hours
December 2020 Zenyatta - 7 hours Junkrat - 15 hours
March 2021 Bastion** - 3 hours Reinhardt** - 10 hours
April 2021 Echo - 7 hours Brigitte - 15 hours
May 2021 Baptiste - 5 hours Doomfist - 10 hours
June 2021 Sombra - 5 hours Zarya - 10 hours
July 2021 Roadhog - 5 hours Widowmaker - 10 hours
August 2021 Orisa - 5 hours Ashe - 10 hours
September 2021 Pharah - 5 hours Ana- 10 hours
October 2021 Mei - 5 hours Winston - 10 hours
  • *In the later matches during the month of October 2020, some of the hours failed to record preventing many users from successfully earning the Symmetra and Mercy skins. As such, a second chance opportunity was granted for users in the month of December 2020 by watching 18 and 20 hours of OWC streams respectively.
  • ** Due to malfunctions during early broadcasts in the month of March, hours required were reduced from 7 hours to 3 hours for Bastion, and 15 hours to 10 hours for Reinhardt.
  • *** Since October 2020, Genji's Contenders Home and Away Skins are granted to every player who logs into Overwatch automatically, no stream watch time is required.

TROUBLESHOOTING EARNING OVERWATCH CONTENDERS SKINS

** These steps are taken from August 2021 Troubleshooting Guide

This troubleshooting guide is ONLY for the Overwatch Contenders skins starting from August 2021. Before going through these steps, be sure to any recent replies in this thread. Also, be sure to check for any tweets from @OverwatchLeague or @BlizzardCS. If there are any issues affecting a majority of viewers from earning rewards it will be detailed in one of those places.

Perform the following steps in order to see if you can correct any possible errors. Remember to check the Overwatch Game Client to see if you earned the rewards in the hero gallery. Any earned spray or skin drops will have no in-game notification or show the :new icon for the items indicated once they are earned.

  1. Please verify that you are eligible to earn any or all of the Overwatch Contenders Rewards. [Only users from certain eligible countries are eligible (check the rules link on the Overwatch Contenders page. As a general rule, all countries where Blizzard allows game accounts to be created are eligible with few exceptions. China is not eligible for this promotion and should check for alternative promotions with NetEase. Japan cannot earn OWL tokens but can earn non-currency rewards like sprays or skins. Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Crimea, and Syria, and other countries where restricted or prohibited by law are not eligible for any Blizzard streaming reward Promotion.
  2. Check for Blizzard account actions. If you are silenced or suspended from Overwatch, you must wait until that account action has resolved. (Please note, suspensions or bans from Competitive Play due to leaver violations do not count toward this.)
  3. Verify your Blizzard Account is signed in or linked. Remember you must either be signed on with your Blizzard account if you are watching on overwatchleague.com overwatchleague.com or the Overwatch League mobile app. If you are watching YouTube or the YouTube mobile app, make sure you are signed in to your Google / YouTube account and that account is linked to your BattleNet account on your YouTube connections page youtube.com account_sharing.
  4. Verify your permissions. Check on your Blizzard Account Connections Page
to see if you have all necessary permissions enabled for the Overwatch League page or Google. If any are missing, revoke the access, then return to overwatchleague and sign back in, and grant all permissions.
  5. Verify your permissions. Check on your Blizzard Account Connections Page to see if you have all necessary permissions enabled for the Overwatch League page or Google. If any are missing, revoke the access, then return to overwatchleague and sign back in, and grant all permissions.
  6. Check your console account link. If you are a console player, verify that your BattleNet account is linked with your Console Account on your Blizzard Account Connections.
  7. Clear web-cookies If you are watching on overwatchleague, try clearing out your web browser cookies or other cache files (remember to sign back into overwatchleague on the web browser).
    a. Right-click the :lock: icon next to the URL of the website.
    b. Click Cookies
    c. A list of web cookies will be shown, click each cookie and select remove
    d. Press Ctrl+F5 to do a hard refresh of the page
    e. Sign back into overwatchleague with your Blizzard Account and approve all permissions again
  8. Disable all All-Blockers If you use any Adblocking plugins or software, please disable it entirely for the duration of the broadcast (don’t just provide an exemption to the site).
  9. Make sure that your streaming page is not muted For Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers, open a tab and navigate to overwatchleague or youtube then right-click the tab of the site on the title bar of the window, in the pop-up menu, if it says “Unmute Site” click it to unmute the site. Instructions may vary with other web browsers.
  10. Check for notification blocks. Make sure that overwatchleague or youtube is not blocked for notifications on your web browser.
  11. Try watching the stream on a different web browser. The most recommended options are Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Internet Explorer (this is a legacy web browser recommended for viewing out-of-date websites on Windows computers) will not work.
  12. Watch direct app devices only. If watching on Google Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, any video game console app, or any other TV casting device, turn off that casting and watch directly from your smart device or computer. These devices will NOT work with earning tokens.

Also contributing to this - the contenders/OWL website IS broken and not properly counting watch times. Again. The only surefire way to make sure you are getting watch hours counted is to watch via youtube, and for the love of god, please make sure you are refreshing your stream when it goes live. If you just tune in to the lobby and afk it for it to go live, it is not counting your watch hours. You must manually refresh the page when the broadcast goes live to get the rewards diamond to appear, otherwise it doesn’t track.

Also, @DropsWatch on twitter is run by WM, and he’s still doing his best to announce contenders (and other) rewards.

The new 2022 OWC rewards official rules (that I can’t seem to be able to post the link to) states that Youtube is the only platform you are able to earn the skins from. This is really sad if true because you now need a Youtube not-brand account to get the skins.

The OWC website, that still contains the rewards banner, is currently broken (at least for me) due to it sending a blank/missing accountid on the requests made every minute to track your watch time. If you fix this manually, Blizzard tracking endpoints will accept your requests (sending ok as reply) and will track your watch time. However you will not earn the skins regardless (at least in my case). I sincerely don’t see the point of them doing this as fixing the OWC website is a really easy task.

Edit: OWC website is now working properly for me after clearing data/caches/logins

Always watch on Youtube and using Google Chrome.

The way Blizzard resources seem to be strained/focused on OW2 these days, that there was relatively zero fanfare about Contenders starting up again (not even an blurb in the Battle.net app Overwatch section?) and YouTube working for most people I don’t see them fixing the OWL/OWC site for viewing soon.

If you can’t do the account split thing on your YouTube brand account, I would just make a separate account for stream viewing.

It’s not even about being resource strained, it’s pure stupidity. It takes more work to disable rewards on OWC website, instead of simply leaving them on.

I also take back what I said, after digging into the OWC website a bit more, the website seems now fixed for me and tracking my time consistently. Possibly fixed by clearing my sessions/caches. Suggest you to do the same (logout, login and if you want delete cookies/cached/site data).

To disable rewards on OWC website, they have to set some vars on the backend (disabling OWC rewards for the website specifically), modify the official rules from last year and properly hide the reward banner on the website (or remove the video panel altogether and link to Youtube).

The mechanism to track time watched on OWC/OWL website is so simple. And they performed changes to it in this new 2022 season: basically added some unnecessary arguments that don’t really impact anything. These changes are also on the OWC website, so they clearly put work on it or given it shares almost the same code as the OWL page it was ported over.

Very cool of you to pick up Wyoming’s mantle for this. There was a thread on this that popped up the day the streams started, meaning that I and most people missed the first stream day, but I got both skins within the two days after.

But your thread is much, much better as it uses the Wyoming format with the times embedded into the thread rather than just linking to the schedule. Much appreciated.

You’re welcome! Again props to WyomingMyst for creating a good format for it the past couple of years, I prefer seeing all regions at once and adjusted to my timezone, it makes it way easier to set reminders / double check the schedule.

They haven’t announced the skins for August yet but I plan to go through add in the August schedule this week.

EDIT:
Just checked and Tracer unlocked for me, started early today with the Korean stream. If all goes well should have Wrecking Ball by end of day.

Is there some way to see how close you are to getting the skins?

Cool that you can break down the down the code used , It’s definitely out of my wheelhouse . I guess at the end of day they still need to maintain the in house streaming sites as a backup if the YouTube system ever breaks.

Unfortunately no. Just got to manually keep track of how much you’ve been viewing.

Blizzard really needs to do a better job promoting Contenders.

I miss when WyomingMyst would post these schedules and they’d get pinned.

Blizzard, please pin this post.

They did post about it, just that it was only on the day of.

It’s definitely suffered this this year, When they started this in 2020 and gave out the Genji Contenders skin to kick things off it was impossible to miss. Looking at the current battle.net app news articles it’s clear promoting OW2 > promoting OWL >>> promoting anything else. Could be that this stuff came together super last minute, but still… I would have completely missed this if my eyes hadn’t glanced over at the Overwatch Contenders YouTube channel feed while watching OWL this past weekend.

I appear to be having issues getting the skins through the official website.

I constantly watch over it to refresh if needs be and ensure the green dot is active but I guess I need to switch to youtube… These may be the first contenders skins I miss.

Each session has been pretty long so at this point you still have a pretty good chance of unlocking the skins. I went from having neither skin to unlocking both on Monday watching the Korea and Europe streams. (Euro stream was almost 7 hrs!)

As Shirokuma mentioned above may want to try clearing session / cache if you want keep trying the OWC website. In the past for me personally OWC website only worked consistently when I was viewing it through a tablet. I’ve had zero issues with YouTube.

This is such a good idea! Thank you so much!

Skins don’t seem to be able to be earned on the official website, even if you watch >10h. This is the case for myself and I couple other people I know so far. New 2022 OWC rewards official rules states that Youtube is the only platform where you can earn the Contenders skins. This is a change compared to the previous season. This is still “unconfirmed” because they didn’t remove the rewards banner from the official contenders website, so this is generating some confusion.

Yeah sometimes the green dot disappears randomly in the middle of the stream, because Blizzards tracking endpoints send back erroneous data that the stream ended and to “not track anymore”. This makes the green circle disappear. This also a problem on OWL page (new to the 2022 season) and can be solved by stopping and playing the youtube stream again (forcing the green circle back again), no need to refresh the page. Keep in mind that the green circle may disappear again after exactly 1min (that’s how long it takes to contact Blizzard’s tracking endpoints again) if the endpoints haven’t sorted themselves meanwhile.

However if the green circle consistently disappears exactly after 1min of being on, this indicates a deeper problem and recommendation is to clear your caches/cookies, logout and login again, etc.

Nice to see the WyomingMyst style Contenders format up again.
Being subscribed to the Contenders YouTube channel will help too, as that’s how I found out games were happening this month.
Also to note, the OWL grey Winston/Widowmaker skins were also not promoted very well too this month, as well as the 20 cute owl team sprays being available at last. From what I could see, the 20 sprays are only mentioned on Twitter, hidden in the mass of other posts there.

Hey there Merchenary. Thanks for putting this together for the community. I do apologize for not being able to work on things like this anymore, as I know it helps all of you out. Seeing you guys put effort into fulfilling some of the things I used to do really makes me happy.
