Overwatch and Valorant: continued growth

Marketing wise via twitch yes – but am I the only one who thinks the game looks like an early access game? They are copying CS in more ways than one – the graphics look like it’s a game over a decade old.

The characters walk around like they have sticks up their rears and the visuals are just so lackluster.

I kinda don’t like that they’re advertising it by making streamers record games and replay it all day long.

You’re not, but OW’s biggest problem is that if they don’t start taking their competitive mode seriously and start adding rules and regulations for competition Valorant WILL kill it.

I totally agree that OW competitive is a bit of a joke, but I’m not convinced Valorant is that big of a contender based on what I saw.

This is surface value judgement obviously, I’ll give it a shot since it’s F2P – but unless they up the quality I don’t really see how it’s going to get more than a niche hardcore fan base after the hype dies personally.

Valorant is not a casual game, that much we can agree on. I also think it looks very bland as well but maybe that’s something to be changed in the future. BUT for those in the population that mostly play comp all Riot has to do is be better than OW about how it handles its comp/pro scene. That will be more than enough to bury this game’s competitive mode. OW didn’t exactly set a high bar.

Agreed, and while Riot is new to the FPS scene (I know they hired some good people though) one thing they DO know is eSports competition for sure.

Players say the same thing about current Overwatch. I can expect Valorant being popular for awhile just like Overwatch during 2016 -2017. However the question is will Valorant popularity still love on and surpass the 1 year hype Overwatch had. LoL still highly popular to this where Heroes of the Storm is dead and when you talk about it. People respond in a clueless manner saying “What is that game” or “Isn’t that a Blizzard game? No wonder it’s not a popular one”

Considering the reputation Blizzard has right now it’s only a matter of time OW leaves the E-sport scene.

This is an 50 / 50 argument. OW personality does have it charms, but if the game isn’t run right which it doesn’t. Players will leave the game, but will remember 2016 -2017 Overwatch. Gameplay, Performance and keeping the game healthy is what makes a game last forever a.k.a WoW though they made bad choices as well.

Its just sad because I just had a comp session trying to grind points to day. For the entirety of the afternoon I was the only one in chat for 4 games straight. This is supposed to be a game built around teamwork and communication. Yet its COMPETITIVE MODE allows those things to be entirely optional. What is even the point then?

That’s because the “it’s just qp” mindset infiltrated competitive play. I no longer consider competitive mode competitive anymore especially when majority of the community players are sore losers and toxic requesting for nerfs on heroes that bothers them or false reporting so they can feel better.

Valorant is a CS:GO clone with abilities. It will live or die whether its core mechanics and matchmaking are superior to CS:GO’s or not. It may siphon some disaffected OW players and streamers, but they will not be directly competing for the same FPS niche.

All they need to do is be better than OW when it comes to its competitive integrity and its community building. OW set a very low bar.

because one of their selling points is any junk PC from 10+ years ago can still run it, as the min specs are an i3-370M with Intel 3000 graphics.
That means a $100ish referb PC or laptop off newegg can still play it.

and after having watched a bunch of game play, it’s going to pull over CS players but that’s about it. The game is very slow placed with a semi-tactical game play style and 40+ min rounds.
That’s a real love it or hate it game play style.

and as far as OW goes, we all know we are just in a holding pattern until OW2. I suspected the release of OW2 had to be holiday time to line up with the consoles, now I’m not so sure given the current world events.

That’s about it and if they can surpass that then I suppose Overwatch will go back to its original roots which what brought them fame in the first place, but that’s if they go that route.

Yet who is to say Valorant will not be run right too? RIOT games tend to have worse problems than Blizzard games.

So if both are bad, one has a soul at least, while the other does not.

This is also a company that is known to harass their own employees. So I would not want to support them anyway.

Both companies harassed each other employees so that’s nothing new. Riot Games only have two games right now which is and LoL and the new Team Fight Tactics compared to Blizzard Games that has a lot. Riot Games are finally coming out with others so give them a chance to breathe like we did with Blizzard. One thing for sure Blizzard wish it did had in the limelight and that’s the E-sports scene Riot Games got.

Honestly most of my reasons for disliking RIOT are personal. Someone like me would probably never give them a chance, for complicated reasons.

Though Blizzard and RIOT are both pretty awful I am not gonna lie. Though I mostly think RIOT is worse.

Also I will admit that I am biased towards Blizzard, I am pretty much their fanboy.

uhhh, Blizzard aint all that great on that front either

Though they might be the lesser evil of the two.

Haha I can empathize with you there while Riot Games have not done too much damage to me which is good. Blizzard specifically this game has destroyed anything I respected them on. WoW still has somewhat respect, but Overwatch I spit on wholeheartedly. Seeing it get hit with negative feedback is pleasing to see because they deserve it.

I’ll say this like the chances of me getting a silence from the two games showed me who does pay attention to the chats. Riot Games gives you chances to redeem yourself while Overwatch doesn’t. I can still communicate with my teammates in Riot Games just on a limited chat penalty where Overwatch is complete silence and if you don’t communicate with your team under a silence. You’re hit with a suspension.

Innocent doesn’t matter here much on Blizzard forums or in general because of their twisted narrative and “ToS” which they do ignore a lot just so they can penalize you. They have somewhat lighted up, but not by much.

This happend with apex legends, the “Ow Killer”

This happend with Ow, the “TF2 Killer”

Yet all these games coexist no problem and so will valorant

valorant furfills a different niche, basically for all the “skill crew” type people

I almost feel bad for the valorant devs though, they are inhereting the worst part of OW’s fanbase, but they marketed.it for them so
