What Blizzard intended to create or not create isn’t something that matters a great deal to me. The unavoidable truth is that many people, myself included, simply prefer the gameplay and progression of Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2 and are simply not enjoying ourselves in this ‘sequel’ or ‘update’ or however you’d like to designate it. Whether Overwatch 2 is ultimately a better game than Overwatch 1 or not isn’t something I’m in any position to declare, only that I am not having as much fun with it gameplay-wise and feel discouraged by the new progression system. Blizzard’s decision to effectively replace Overwatch 1 with Overwatch 2 has taken away an experience that many people (myself included) enjoyed and preferred, so taking that grievance to the forums is really our only recourse.
The additional issue of monetization also paints a sneaking suspicion within me that the ‘mandatory upgrade’ to Overwatch 2 was more motivated out of exposing the entire former-playerbase to the new F2P business model. Perhaps that is unfair of me to assume and not the case, but the modern gaming-industry has done little to earn trust from me; Blizzard especially
