They want rank decay so you can climb the ladder and play more. Its a sleazy system.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. How do you think all these stupid mobile games work with giving u just 1 missing stamina and all the other shenanigans. Reality is that this manipulation is very real and working.

Yeah, I always thought it could be judged against the performance of same heroes in that rank (or as individual hero ranks). I wonder if they worry that causes bloat with lesser used or new heroes and artificially ups a players ranks, due to a lack of data to accurately refine the player stats? I remember when Orisa first came out I climbed like 600-700 points on the release week. After they changed the hero and I played other stuff later I went on a loss streak back down like 500 points or so. So, I guess they figure that regardless of the hero and performance, they want a focus on win or losses.
But I think regardless, it would be useful information to see some way to compare my performance with other heroes in the same rank without relying on external sources like overbuff for data. This way would alleviate some of the stress or frustrations players have trying to know how they’re performing in a game.
One benefit is that it gets players with unusually high winrates out of low ranked games. So an antismurf, basically. You end up being ranked as plat but in masters games so it does save the gold/plat players from needing to deal with that.

If true thats awful. I made my ranking and had 2 forced losses. In one i as support was the only one getting a kill in a 2 round cp match and in the 2nd 2 people did nothing and 2 left.
It is not that they are forced losses, it is more of they are stacking the deck against you until you lose.

they like doing the same mistake for 10 years so give them 3 years and they maybe ditch the mmr bs.
Another thing that bugs me is removing the rank reset and decay.
instead of actually giving people reason to grind we are going back to finish placement matches once and never touch comp again.
Who needs skill when you can get boosted or make new account and climb higher than a hard stuck account will even get?
im not dismissing WR…but i find the whole MMR thing to be pointless if its strictly going by WR…
and again i think adequately measuring performance is an impossibility…but to not have ANYTHING other than WR included in the MMR calculation is just laughable imo…
which i guess makes sense since the whole matchmking argument we’ve constantly had on here over 6 years is equally laughable

If the matchmaking system would take care of your performance, it wouldn’t have thrown you into 10 bad games in the first place.
From what I’ve gathered just reading various stuff, it’s because people generally don’t like to see a number go down. So every time you lost a match in OW1, you get a screen with your total SR going down. That’s why they’ve hidden that and are just doing these rank tiers, but it’s really causing confusion for those that don’t understand what’s happening. That SR number is still going up and down after every match, we just aren’t able to see it, but instead, get to see the net result after 7 wins/20 losses.
if i remember correctly, in OW1, this was correct. whenever i played sombra competitively, i would lose less SR for losses, and gain more for wins, because there were so few competitive sombra players at gold/plat to compare stats to. (and often they weren’t playing sombra to learn/improve at her, but picking her to counter something specific, like a doom or hammond)
Soo forced losses. If they always put me against stronger enemys that means it forces me to lose. As i wont be magically 10 times better from one match to the next.
The whole having the enemies rank of the role you are playing be MORE similar to yours is great and all but why can’t we do this of the other enemies on the other roles?
Sooooo we’ll still have players playing against someone that is a different rank.
I can have a gold tank (that will play against another gold tank) but then 2 low diamonds and 2 plats on the same team. THAT’S STILL NOT GOOD.
Why can’t a Gold Tank play against a Gold Tank, 2 Gold DPS and 2 Gold Supports?
