did you know irl that women make up 50 percent of the population? Fun fact.
What are you talking about? Other than Mercy everyone else is male or act like one.
I mean at least this hero is hot. Can’t say the samething about previous ones.
6 heroes on development
One of them echo. Other, likely junker queen
So the other 4 are male?
I think it’s the opposite considering everybody loves Overwatch waifus.
Personally, I don’t put Hammond in the dude category cause he’s a friggin’ Hampster. If they added a non-speaking female mole as a character I wouldn’t use her as an example of Overwatch’s gender ratio either. It’s just weird.
Oh yeah… I forgot about Hope. I try to forget FFXIII.
Ah, interesting! I guess that further confirms Bastion is supposed to be totally genderless.
BOI, did you forget about Doomfist?
And how I thought of it is they are balancing the amount of females to males.
Launch: 12:8 (male to female, excluded Bastion because wut?)
Before Doomfist: 12:11 (Ana, Orisa, and Sombra added)
Before Wrecking Ball: 13:13 (DF, Moira, and Brig added)
And now with Ashe, we have 14:14
I don’t think they are catering to any demographic, but rather trying to keep it even.
Theres plenty of non-fanservicey female heroes.
Ana- she’s an old lady
Brig- Big strong lady
Mei- Chubby smart scientist lady
Moira- Smart ugly rat looking lady
Pharah- Big strong lady
Zarya- Very big strong lady.
It goes the same for male heroes too. Most of them are fanservicey, but theres still a handful of non-fanservicey heroes.
Junkrat- crazy bomber guy without half his limbs
Roadhog- Big fat guy
Torb- Midget
Winston- Gorilla
Hammond- Hamster
Im excluding Omnic heroes since they’re robots.
There’s both male and female heroes that fill a fanservice bar.
Totally agree. We desperately need a Mama Hong female tank. Would be so amazing!! Also, Mei is not chubby. She has a plump behind, but her actual bod is fairly thin. I would like to see more diversity in weight of OW heroes.
Blizzard understand how popular a certain internet rule has gotten them so they’re fully embracing it.
I’m sorry, but if you don’t consider Pharah and Brig good looking then i really don’t know. Just cause they have a bit of muscle…
The only non standard Women are Moira (cause androgynous), Ana (cause old lady), Zarya (cause Muscle woman), Maybe Mei (cause nerdy and a little more thicc) and Orisa (cause cyber horse)
Men on the other hand.
Roadhog (thicc boi)
Junkrat (lanky boi)
Torb (midget)
Zen (Omnic)
Hammond (Hamster)
Winston (Gorilla)
Soldier (old men)
Reaper (facemask beside in “young” version skins)
Genji (cyborg)
The only “hot” males are Hanzo, McCree, Lucio, Maybe Doomfist. If you wanna say Soldier, Reaper, Genji, that’s just their past skins.
Hot females on the other hand? Mercy, Brig, D.Va, Sombra, Tracer, Widow, Pharah, Ashe, Sym, if you wanna include past skins then Ana as well
When I say “Fan Service” I mean like small thin, hourglass, model like heroes. So Widow, Tracer, Sym or Dva (She’s literally a fanservice meter) The reason I don’t consider Brig or Pharah as fan service, is because they don’t really appeal to the thin, hourglass, model type hero like the ones I just listed.
But with the male heroes, only Junkrat, Roaghog, Torb, Winston, and Hammond, don’t fit the stereotypical, big broad shoulders, attractive, and fill some sort of fan service role. Most of the male heroes are big broad shouldered, chiseled chin, guys. Just like how most of the female heroes are Thin hourglass shaped modeled ladies. I’m not necessarily judging them on their face but rather their body type and their personality. Like Dva fits the body type and korean gamer girl character type, making her the most fan servicey hero. This isn’t a bad thing, we want things to be attractive to look at. I don’t wanna look at Roadhogs all day.
First of all you are over exaggerating.
Also, video games used to be a very nerdy thing, only nerds and geeks used to either play or do something with video games.
Video game has also been an incredibly male dominated market, so of course most of the time the protagonist will be a male. It has only started to even out the last couple of years.
No longer are you branded a nerd or geek for playing a video game.
People drool over Overwatch characters no doubt.
There is also a lot of adult SFM clips out there.
This isn’t really true for the origin of video games. The general public used to go to arcades as a hangout spot, and when home consoles arrived they were looked upon as family novelties similar to the television. Marketing was relatively gender inclusive. It is only when console manufacturers later on in the medium’s lifespan had to figure out where to put consoles on toy aisles did they arbitrarily decide women didn’t play games and put them on the boy’s shelf, and subsequently men took that as a sign to start the annoying gatekeeping and revisionism we’re still dealing with today. Casual audiences and women have always played games.
Maybe but the m to f ratio is pretty good currently. I think they are doing it because it’s more fun
You literally have to count them and damn males and females are in equal numbers
Ok so basically, 14/29 heroes are female
How is that peculiar
I forgot to add, I -do- hope there are some males coming up.
as an artist… I call say it’s much more fun to design female characters then male character…
