Well yeah, that’s what “Classic” means.
As I said months ago:
Problem with “Overwatch Classic” is that everyone has a different idea of what it should be:
Some think it should have all OW1 heroes, some think it should only have heroes up until some arbitrary point, still others think it should have OW2 heroes as well
Some think it should be Role Queue, some think it should Open Queue with hero limits, some think it should be No Limits
Theres 0 consensus on reworked heroes - should they have OG Torbjorn, Symmetra, Mercy, D.Va and Sombra? Should they have the reworked versions of them? Which version of Symmetra?
Imo “2016 Overwatch” makes the most sense given that 2017 was the worst year for player retention in OW1. However, that would nean:
No heroes after Sombra - No Orisa, Doomfist, Moira, Wrecking Ball, Brigitte, Ashe, Baptiste, Sigma, Echo or any OW2 heroes.
No reworks (except D.Va’s first one where DM became a resource). Mass Rez is back.
No Limits in Quick Play (I think). Hero Limits in Competitive. Enjoy your triple-Tank + Ana meta.
No new maps except Eichenwalde. Also, the choke point on first hasn’t been reworked yet. Good luck. No new maps have been added for any other modes outside of the arcade yet.
I dont think a lot of people who want “Classic Overwatch” want that . I think it would get old pretty fast.
And logically, they have gone with a May 2016 version - because that’s what “Classic” actually means. But classic also means disabling half of the game’s heroes - and that is something I don’t think a lot of people actually want long-term. And it also means bringing back a bunch of game mechanics that people really didn’t like.
