One trick problem (TL:DR at bottom)

I am by no means the first person to bring this up. but onetricking is a cancer for this game.

This is a TEAM game. Not a SINGLE player game.

A little context. i just had 2 games in comp with a torb one trick. the first map was hanamura and we started defence, and torb is ok on hanamura. so it sucked that he didnt change but we got through it. The second game however, we were on Blizzard world. torb, attack, and blizzard world doesnt mix, ended up losing that game.

What has blizzard done to fix this?? Nothing. nothing in lower teirs and doing a minor change in higher tiers. One tricking dosent happen only in plat +, it happens in all tiers and its time something is down to fix this.

The game is to blame for onetricking. the game promots onetricking to level up faster. it doesnt matter if you have a 38% winrate, youll still climb. Onetricking is Poor teamwork. refusing to switch to a hero that benefits the team in order to win is Poor Teamwork.

One tricking should be a BANNABLE offence.

Im sick of queuing up for comp and getting one tricks who refuse to switch. i dont care if they are sym onetricks, mercy onetricks, or tracer onetricks. this needs to stop. how can blizzard get all of this hate about one tricks and throwing/trolling/griefing/stream snipers and not do a damn thing? the report system is better then it was but is by no means anywhere close to being something the the community should fear.

Have you ever noticed that people are toxic when the have these people in there games? what would happen if these people werent in the game? ill tell you, TOXICITY WOULD GO DOWN SEVERELY. Devs say that it is up to the community to not be toxic, but its up to them to get rid of the toxic people that create all of this toxicity.

Sorry for the long post.

TL:DR
One tricking is ruining the game.
Its the SR system that promotes onetricking.
Its up to the devs to get rid of the source of toxicity, not the players.

So in short people can’t play what they want to play but have to play what others dictate?

If you ask me, the people reacting to the one tricks are as toxic, if not more than the one tricks themselves.

This game is a Team game. it is a terrible thing to do if you pick a hero with no intention to swap to a different hero to benefit the team. When i made this post i had just come out of those games as was pretty pissed. i have since calmed down. and i truly still believe that one tricking is ruining the game.

Time and time again Jeff has said that the game is meant for people to adapt to heroes and pick against heroes to help with the outcome. playing one hero regards if it is best to win or not is actively throwing the game. you are lowering the teams chance of winning solely by picking a character that doesn’t benefit the team, or switching when your hero dosen’t work out.

I understand the concept of " I paid for the game, so i should be able to play who i want." and i agree. but when you queue up for ranked, 5 other people are depending on you to benefit the team in order to win. when queuing up for ranked, you are signing a contract saying, Yes, i will try my best to help my team win.

I’m fine with someone picking torb on attack, i give everyone a fair chance, but when the torb doesn’t work because they have a widow picking off the turret from across the map, or a soldier on high ground, or a hanzo scattering the turret every time you put in down, the sensible choice is to switch to a hero that can help against the enemy and have a higher chance of winning.

Please understand that before i was very angry because i lost because of a torb onetrick.

Thank you for understanding.

I totally agree with you. When i orginally made the post i was tilted and was rude.

The point that i was trying to make is that one tricking harms teamwork.

Say you have to make a world map in a group of six. One person say ok, ill do NA, another says ill do South America, but ill do africa is someone else wants to do South America. another does asia, another europe, the other says they know South america better and if its ok, if they can do it. Then you have Joe. He says that he will do AMERICA!!!. Everyone is like, well , if you want to do NORTH america, then ill do Oceania, but Joe says That he will only do america and that everyone has to work around him.

This isn’t fair for everyone as everyone else has to work harder just because Joe is an AMERICA one trick. because of this, the group is more likely to fail the project because Joe refused to help the group.

This is essentially one tricking. when you queue up for ranked, you should be willing to help the team win. thats the point of any competitive game; TO WIN.

9 times out of 10 those people are good at the character they pick (or have been). Not many join a comp game to play badly and lose, now I’m not saying that doesn’t happen but If you support them instead of demoralize them you and your team will have a much more fun and hopefully productive time.

Y’know…they changed the SR system up in the higher ranks. Turns out One-Tricks only stay because they’re good at the game…

It’s as if…learning multiple heroes at once doesn’t actually lead to you getting better at any of them and investing time into ONE of them actually makes you play better at them!

It’s not a problem…

People will play what they want to play!
