Once you’re down, you’re done

So, trying to be more helpful here:

In Season 5 the same thing happened to me. I actually went on a bad, sustained string of losing more than winning and dropped from Platinum 3 to Gold 5. It was really humbling, especially because I’d been platinum fairly consistently since Season 2. Immediately, I blamed matchmaking (I mean, matchmaking is very inconsistent), quitters (they ruin everything), smurfs (they also ruin everything) and just dumb, arrogant people who weren’t Playing Right™.

Problem was, I think I inadvertently became one of those dumb, arrogant people who weren’t Playing Right™. I was trying too hard to brunt force my preferred method of play or my preferred comp, because I was convinced that was the only way I’d win. I wasn’t playing to my team. I wasn’t seeing the whole field. I had tunnel vision and chased numbers to validate my preconceived notions.

Then I took some time away from the game, came back, stopped giving my rank so much weight in my mind and started playing better. I still don’t win every game, obviously. But those games that come down to overtime? We were winning more of them. I was dying less. My team was dying less. And my rank went up. I got to Plat 2 this season, and want to get to Diamond eventually.

Just like… in every situation that goes poorly, try not to blame your teammates. Even if it’s their fault, dismissing a bad play as entirely their fault robs you of any learning opportunity, and potentially blinds you to your own shortcomings or bad habits. Maybe consider the same situation from the other player’s point of view: were they expecting you to do something differently, but you were out of position, thus leaving them out to dry to look like an idiot?

I dunno. tl;dr: The rank will rise on its own if that’s where you should be. I got back to high Plat, you can too. Blaming “dog water” teammates does absolutely nothing to help your cause.
