This is why this game deserved it’s 10/10 btw, imo. This is not an easy genre of game to get right or make successful, and Overwatch is the best of the bunch.
Edit
I don’t think it deserves it in the sense of it being a perfect game or anything. But in the sense of it being exemplary of it’s genre.

I don’t think another hero shooter will match OW, to be honest.
They all come they seem to be the ‘killer of Overwatch’ and then you barely hear of them anymore, except for Valorant but OW and Valorant’s only similarities are some abilities and the fact there are ‘heroes’.
The biggest threat to OW is itself… or Minecraft but they’ve killed every game already so I don’t think that counts.

Gigantic also
The problem is sadly with the two things
Trying to do something too differend, combined with lack of streamers to support it.
Sadly they started to run this type of games and decide what can live and what will die forgotten.

I got a key pretty early and tried it out… I was bored out of my mind. It was so slow and tedious, it rewards camping and cheesing, I think it’s too different from Overwatch to really pose much threat.
A portion of the playerbase will switch, sure, but I don’t think it’ll be a particularly significant number. Mainly players who are bored of Overwatch and looking for a game to switch to, players who wish Overwatch was a more traditional FPS, ex CS:GO players who got bored of CS:GO and switched to Overwatch, that kind of thing. But for the average Overwatch player, those of us who actually love what Overwatch is at it’s core even if we don’t always like the current state of balance in the game, I think most of us couldn’t care less about Valorant.
Either way, once Overwatch 2 hits I’m 100% sure it will bring much more new and returning players than we could ever lose to a game like Valorant.
100% agreed.

Bleeding Edge was fun while it lasted.
Also atk and defense, skins, and hero classes. Soon to be comp for valorant.
This game was half baked sure, but I think more prevalent than that was this games lack of marketing.
I talked about this on the subreddit, on the blizzard forums and the games forums, the marketing for this game was shocking, especially when you consider amazon published it.
They OWN twitch and yet no ads for it on twitch, no drops for twitch primers as far as i know, no marketting at all, like i didn’t even see a youtube ad for this.
This is amazon’s fault and no elses, they simply were not paying attention and did not care enough, if you dont care about your game, gamers aren’t going to either.

While it lasted? it was released on 24 March, it is only July…
It’s still up, just the playerbase size dropped off a cliff
Definitely. But I still believe valorant is in its early stages and holds a lot of potential.

None of those that you named were some things that were rare, many games have skins, attack/defense, classes and competitive modes/scenes.

Be careful.
My topic on crucible got reported and removed for being off topic despite it being the first new hero shooter in years

I’m just listing similarities, yeah they are common as hell, but those still are valid similarities.
Thanks for the warning.
Hopefully I don’t get shutdown.

What do you mean by dying? Like others have said, it is true that there is no game that can be truly compared apples-to-apples with OverWatch and in that sense it is safe from competition.
But the OW community has been steadily declining for awhile now. Game quality is getting worse. Top 500s versus masters in a lot of games because of how few GMs are playing. When OWL pros are facing off against people who are not even in the highest brackets of skill, you know there is a problem with the playerbase volume.
OW is in a decline, and it doesn’t even need to have a competitor to be in the bad state it’s in.

Oh yeah they are valid similarities but I just thought you thought they were things that were distinct about Overwatch.
I mean valorant has stuff Overwatch doesn’t like seperate weapon skins and probablys more stuff that idk of
I would have tried crucible, but it’s literally a moba along the lines of smite. This game is a hero shooter, they aren’t the same thing.

Yeah totally dw. All I’m trying to say abt valorant in this thread is that it has good potential. I reeeally hate cs go’s playstyle and pacing but idk something abt valorant clicked and I found it refreshing and nice. I think many others might have similar reactions as time goes on, that’s all.

Crucible is a hero shooter with pve elements mixed into certain modes and some wild new match types like 2v2v2v2v2v2.
It markets itself as a hero shooter, I tried it out, it is one (its just 3rd person, that’s the biggest difference)

3rd person kinda cringe
Also I think the name crucible is pretty funny considering the name of destiny’s PvP mode
