was in syd2 getting 200 first match then righted itself and was back to 35…could even play ashe usefully for a while!
It appears to be fixed! I played 10 or so games and they all had <100 ping!
Happening here in Melbourne, ISP Telstra … grrr. Matches start at 50 ping then rocket to 200 and rubber band. This happens halfway through a match or even towards the end. Its never canon.
Some matches are fine but sometime start on 137 ms and half the match leaves because yeah, cant play well with ping doubling.

I’ve noticed that there appears to be a lot of packet loss in game though winMTR doesn’t detect it. Also there seems to be a huge amount of jitter like above in other winMTRs some people have an average latency of 10ms yet are seeing spikes up to 90MS I’m beginning to think this isn’t Blizzard or ISPs but could be congestion with Equinix peering. Late last year I had none of the issues I have had since but the server was PSE2 and was via AWS peering not equinix.
Also another thing I noticed is on AWS servers I could never ping the servers just before reaching overwatch it would always show 100% packet loss and I recall reading that it was intentional that those servers couldn’t be pinged so I’m wondering if maybe it’s those few that show as being in the Netherlands for me and now that they’re visible it’s triggering our ISPs to use International routing which could be a less optimised route to Sydney? AFAIK “telstraglobal” hops shouldn’t appear on domestic routing.

Yeah we’ve been getting the same issue over in Heroes of the Storm, and getting even less blue posts than you guys are if you can believe it. Finally got a blue post today after the original stuff 9-10 days ago.

Bumping so this is at the top because Blizzard don’t care and have unpinned the topic.
The topic was unpinned due to it being incorrectly pinned in the first place. As a general rule we do not pin ISP issues because they are transient and they get fixed over time. We have to limit the number of stickies we have active at any point in time, as too many stickies results in people with easily resolved, long term problems having a hard time finding their solution. Since ISP issues tend to take longer to get fixed and also only affect players in a single region, we don’t add them to the sticky list. We definitely still care about this issue, it’s just that it’ll stay near the top of the threads as long as it exists anyway and it’s prime time for Australia/New Zealand - folks will keep bumping it as needed, so there’s no need to sticky. Sorry for any confusion!
We’re going to merge this thread to the other one - the other one has way more activity right now, and it’s been determined that both problems have a similar cause, as expected. Because of this, we want all players posting in a single thread. I’ll update the other one shortly and change the title, but if you have this problem, please contribute here .
