[Oceanic] High Latency or Connecting to Wrong Servers

That’s all well and good but it’s not just isolated to me and my ISP every time I get routed to the wrong server there are others in the same match who are also from Australia being routed to the wrong server which leads me to believe it’s not a user issue

And I don’t mean to be rude or anything but have any of the mods or technical staff actually read through this thread because it seems most of the responses are missing the point.

19 posts were split to a new topic: Latency issues from Victoria Australia

This has been going on for literally several months. The issue still persists. No more MTR is needed, you should have the informatino you need from the literal dozens of players being connected with 250 ping. It sounds like you are just brushing the issue off because you think that Australian players are insignificant.

No official fix, no official notices only forum posts. Nothing. No diagnosis steps aside from restart your computer and other already attempted things.

Pretty easy fix. Just quit games that connect you to non SYD servers…

Edited by Blizzard: - moved to correct thread. The previous thread was for an unrelated issue.

It’s possible that 12 people were just put into an overseas server (competitive) or that the server was under very heavy load as almost all 12 players in the game from Oceania were experiencing heavy latency (around 250ms)

This is not the first time this has happened and it has nothing to do on my end obviously, because for 11 other people to have ping issues all at the same time for only 1 game on an evening is practically impossible. I don’t know if this is a bug or if this is inteded because Oceania is a dead region, but either way I thought I should post this.

Proof: (you can see latency in top left)

As of writing this post, I have already been placed in another high ping server from oce

Everytime i’ve queued for dps today i’ve had 130+ ping games, apparently i’ve been getting put into Singapore servers according to a few people in the games. 60% of tank games are the normal 40 ping? Its ridiculous

Oce player btw lmao.

the last 5 comp games ive played ive had over 100 ping and its safe to say thats on the low end of my team. Every game someone was complaining about how high the ping is despite everyone claiming they are from australia. I dont know what is happening as it is only competitive matches as quick play works just find with normal ping. Wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Same for me. Pinging 300ms or more in most games. Had the occasional game around 30ms. Basically unplayable.

Just come from playing a game on a Singapore server and then on a LAX sever.

It seems lots of Australians are being placed on overseas severs at the moment. Ctl+Shift+N will show you what sever you are on, then Ctl+Shift+N to close out of that screen.

yeap same problem for me

Thanks for your reports, everyone! I moved everyone over to this thread since we’re starting to see the same behavior with high latency or being connected to the wrong servers. If the following information can be provided it can help with tracking this issue further.

  • Device: ie. PC, PSN, Xbox, Switch

  • Current Servers: Example: LAX1, ORD1, SYD1 - Press CTRL+SHIFT+N to open up the Network Graph, this will be next to the IP address at the top left corner of the graph.

  • WinMTR test while the issue occurs:

  • Let’s also grab a WinMTR test for the Oceanic realm to compare what’s happening. Use the IP Address: 37.244.40.1

For those in Victoria, Australia experiencing Latency Issues, please refer to this thread instead.

Hi Caterpepi,

Device: PC
Current Server: pse1
Also I’m from Perth, Australia avg 80+mb/s down & 5mb/s up with a fibre coaxial connection & wired to the PC. I do want to say also, I will grab a WinMTR of the next time I’m placed in Syd2 - this server punishes me.

Thanks Caterpepi and hopefully this helps to get a solution for Aus. I also put an extra dot before the .net & .com because they hyperlinked.

  • This below is the pse1 server 13.229.99.66 I ran this test while the latency issues are happening and played the remainder of the game rubber banding. It was not a ranked game and played support.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

I’ve had this issue currently but with oceanic and Australian servers all with 150-370 ping and it’s very hard to play comp. I’m still trying to figure out what pse means anyway

Issue is still occuring - a quick search of “aus” in the forums shows that there has been a known, ongoing issue with player server assignment from October 2019 to now (still ongoing).

Unfortunatley blizz won’t acknowledge the issue, they just blame the ISP, even though its affecting thousands of players across the country, on a range of differnet plans and ISPs, for 1/4 of a year now.

They try to lessen the noise by locking other threads and collating it to one, like they did with this - but it doesn’t stop the fact that there are thousands of players affected by this game-breaking player to server assignment bug that they won’t acknowledge as an issue.

Its been too long, with too many players affected, but they just sweep it under the rug.

Most you might get is “have you restarted your computer”, “maybe restart your modem” or “call your ISP”… basically, don’t expect any help.

As far as I can tell, most players see when they’ve been put on the wrong server and just leave the match - I know its not great, but what else can you do when they wont fix the issue?

Just adds salt in the wound that they penalize people for leaving, when we have to leave (to be put on the right server), because of an issue they won’t acknowledge, let alone fix

Just played 2 games with bad ping connecting overseas - third time it connected to SYD2 servers and was fine. Please fix issue!

This is starting to really peeve me! For 3 days now I have been constantly faced with 180-300+ ms ping when the max I usually encounter on any given day is 60. It’s literally making the game unplayable! Why is nothing being done to fix this?!

I am based out of Brisbane, Australia btw.
