This is starting to really peeve me! For 3 days now I have been constantly faced with 180-300+ ms ping when the max I usually encounter on any given day is 60. It’s literally making the game unplayable! Why is nothing being done to fix this?!
It’s pretty frustrating to see the posts referring to restarting your PC and making sure you don’t have certain software installed. I could understand that if the software in question had just had a release that everyone updated and was bugged, but the reality is that’s not the case. What are you getting from the WinMTR that is helping, if anything? It would be great to see a proper response.
I’ve tried using wtfast from both Sydney and Melbourne routes without any change… if the suggestion is I try to connect through a non-Australian route I might as well just deal with the crap service being supplied by default.
Devs are checking out issues with the Australian servers at the moment. I’ll let you know if we hear anything else.
Edit: We’ve made some tweaks and believe that this problem should be handled now. Can people who were having problems with getting routed to the wrong servers (instead of the Sydney servers) please check to see if it worked?
I’m still getting routed to the PSE servers ~120 ping. Can use a VPN (sydney based) to get back to australian servers ~40ms.
Currently residing in victoria using iinet
Edit: For me this is not every couple of games… 100% of the games for the past 1-2 months has been going to PSE.
Thanks for your reports, everyone! Our team are aware of the issue and currently investigating the issue. Some changes have been made to alleviate the issue. If you are continuing to experience the issue, please let us know!
For those still experiencing the issue, it would help greatly with providing the following details once more to provide these details to our team.
Your reports and details provided are greatly appreciated!
Reinstalled the game and to check and it’s still useless for me. Any game not grouped routes to PSE1 and grouped games take to me to Sydney with a 180 ping.
Another Australian player here. I myself occasionally get high ping to Sydney servers, but it’s from my normal 64 latency to the highest being 130, so for me it’s still playable. This is on an ADSL line, ISP is Dodo. I’m located in South East Queensland.
However, I have a friend on NBN in Sydney, and she will have an issue where sometimes she’ll be connected to the proper Sydney server, but at 300 ping.
A tracert + some location coordinate traces in Google Maps reveals that her internet during high latency games goes from her location to Perth, and then back to Sydney to where the Overwatch server is. (Her ISP is also Dodo)
(NOTE: I do have the traces saved somewhere, I can upload them if needed by anyone)
Looking at the traceroute, soon as her signal hits the Telstra routers, it goes one hop at normal ping, then hits a problem router that pings at 300. That one router is of course in Perth.
My guess is that anyone here having issues is just getting a case of Telstra’s AWFUL international + domestic routing yet again.
3 games in a row on chinese servers. Of course at 20h when there is max number of players. Please blizzard pay some servers for OCE gamers. There are not enough actually.
Just had 3 games on PSE1 [54.179.190.186] Mystery Heroes
I’m normally on SYD2 PC
WinMTR PSE1 - NOTE: don’t be concerned for the drops for MYGATEWAY, it’s from running two WinMTR’s at the same time
