Why the hell is this a thing? I waited for 21 minutes for a quickplay game and was missing one DPS and I got kicked out. Why doesn’t the game just wait?
What happened here is that before the game Hero Selection Screen started, a player failed to connect to the game server. When this happens the matchmaker tries desperately to find a suitable player at the same hidden MMR as that of the missing player, but will send everyone back to queue if a replacement can’t be found in a timely manner.
Wouldn’t it be better if we wait 2 minutes for another player instead of waiting another half an hour for a fresh match?
The question is whether it would be faster to re-pool the players than waiting for a new player. Especially considering the demands for Tank and Support roles.
I’m decently sure finding one player will be quicker than finding 12 players. Agree?
Not exactly, again it comes down to the “hidden matchmaking rating” for each player (including non Competitive modes).
Finding 12 people with similar MMR would be much more time consuming than finding 1 person.
Whatever, I’m too dumb to be able to make up arguements.
But by returning the 11 players back to the main pool, the matchmaker can work to rebuild matches for everyone. I know this was mentioned by the devs before, but I can’t find the response in my archives (might have been something talked about in a stream).
In my experience at least, finding players takes only about 10 seconds if a player is found, matches usually take 10+ minutes to be found for DPS players such as myself. If I play tank this wouldn’t be a problem because tank queues are less than ten seconds.
