I’ve offered a solution that already works better than what we have in other, similarly complex games and doesn’t involve the problems your solution would. I never claimed impossibility. Don’t put words in my mouth.
“Doesn’t matter how flawed the idea is. It’s my idea and I stand by it. You guys are smart and you’ll figure it out.”… I sincerely hope nobody has the misfortune of working under you.
Very innovative. No other game does this. And perfect for testing entire matchmaking systems with an irrelevant amount of players.
Isn’t responding to pretty much every point individually in detail enough? Should I respond to every single sentence? Or should I adopt your style of responding in the most general and vague way imaginable?
Right! why didn’t anyone think of that before? It’s so simple yet never done!
…oh wait, that’s how it works now. Except you can’t just look at data after a couple games, assume a player consistently overperforming and give them crazy amounts of SR like 500 or freaking 1000! Especially when you don’t know what their actual SR is supposed to be. A plat player would stomp bronze players as badly as a T500 player would. You’d overshoot so many players’ SR by doing that. I don’t know how easy you imagine it would be to develop such a system, but sorting players from the absolute bottom up would be beyond the most advanced AIs just because of the complexity of this game.
QP MMR could be useful if competitive queue required a number of wins in QP first, forcing people to try to some extent, therefore having more data on their performance to guess their rank more accurately and also looking at how many games it took to gather the required amount of wins. So placements are definitely not useless on top of QP MMR, it’s just both are not implemented in a good way. QP MMR is mostly useless in it’s current state because people don’t even have to play QP at all to get to level 25 and if they do play it, they can just AFK through the whole thing since all they need is XP. But without QP MMR, all they have to draw from is 5 games. It either needs to only count wins before placing, so 5 wins instead of 5 games, or increase the amount of games needed to at least 10. And as I said, ideally there should be a required number of QP wins before competitive is even unlocked to have some idea about the player.
Players who took too long to gather the wins (both QP and comp) and didn’t perform too well could be placed in bronze, but only those players. Putting everyone in there is beyond stupid.
