No, sorry, that's not true. tanking is not fun anymore

100% agree, I used to be a tank main but with all these tank “balance”( and the bias to some dps and ana ) made me stop completely. Its been around 6 or so months since I played this and it makes me sad in the state that it still is. ( I lurk the forums because I want to retun to this game but only when things change if I now see will be prob never)

Same. I uninstalled 3 weeks ago and haven’t looked back. I wanted to play tank but for the last few months played DPS with the occasional forage back into tanking. But for a while you had to play Zarya or lose to the other team’s Zarya and now I see from watching streamers that double shield is coming back. Each tank I played got nerfed at some stage to be pretty unplayable for a period. I’d love to return and play tank (I never really got into DPS) but it’s just not fun with so many counters who counter almost all tanks so it’s not as easy as just switching.

Im enjoying all three roles SOO MUCH as of lately. The balance has never been better IMO

Or also the constant amount of stuns and debuffs tanks get. That can get mhhhhh a little frustrating to anyone playing main tank. Or tanks in general.

In terms of balance compared to other hero, they’re pretty powerful, in 6v6 however, they’re… meh?

There’s also the lack of heroes, they say people enjoy more DPSing, although this is true and will probably never change, the fact that you have more options to switch to makes the role more enjoyable

You’re lacking on heals? as DPS you can go any flanker and play around healthpacks, reaper, mei and soldier

As tank you can go roadhog and… That’s it

Same with support, you’re lacking tanks? you can go mei or any flanker, as support you can’t really go anyone

Flankers are killing both supports then the dps and finally tanks? supports have some anti flank abilities, not 100% reliable but brig stun and ana sleep can come in clutch, DPS have a variarity of stuns

And tanks have

Gigant rock difficult to land
Hook which is… you know, hog, free ult charge

I’m watching Emongg’s stream just now and he’s on his 6th game in a row of double shield and I expect this run is going to continue. So sad the balance team don’t seem to understand what causes double shield and did something as stupid as buffing bap and brig at the same time. It’s almost like they have no clue what they are doing.

I really don’t think tanking feels much different now than it ever did. There’s obviously more CC than there was at the time of release, but recent balance changes in the last 6 months or so have rendered much of it inconsequential. I also don’t really buy the idea that tanks are leaving. Every time I go and dual check tank and support roles I’m assigned to support almost every time. There really doesn’t seem to be this exodus that people have been talking about for the last year or so.

Reaper counters Winston and Rein, ok, fine. Reaper counters tanks as a whole? Not ok.
Just an example.

Giving Tanks more Lethality/Regen, is probably what DPS players are looking for.

And get rid of the idea we need to protect against 4 Tanks on a team when balancing for 2-2-2. (I.e. Tanks can’t have more value than DPS, because it would be OP in Open Queue)

The priority pass system is a way to bribe people to play tanks and supports. I am fine with that. But if they lose, they should get 0 passes. I want the system to do more than bribe them to play the role… I want the system to bribe them to play the role AND try to win.

There’s no denying that playing tank and support sucks right now. No one wants to. But if the system bribes enough people to play those roles for now, it’ll help DPS queue times. That’s the intent. It doesn’t mean they will stop balancing.

I don’t think it’s so much the counters on the role, so much as they just absorb so much cc and it’s a role of good faith. (However echo was definitely an idiot move on blizzard’s part). It’s incredibly frustrating to try or make space and your team isn’t with you.

There’s lots of factors. Every since they nerfed the crap out shield tanks a year ago it’s never felt the same.

A lot of tanks don’t have the same feeling anymore, for example orisa has changed dramatically.

Yeah, but they probably will just keep moving away from that.

That said, +1 damage on Orisa, and a Gallop mode would be nice.

Maybe some added beneficial status effects on Fortify, like it automatically puts you in Gallop mode but with the ability to shoot.

Maybe put the ability to knockback Kick when Galloping?

To be fair orisa’s was probably the most dramatic in the last year for changes. But most know me as an orisa lover anyway on the forums.

I feel Roadhog hit some rocks too though. He feels much slower.

Mans of course my brothers who play sigma (love hate relationship) have had much chipped away on his kit as well.

Remember when dva and hog were super popular and happened to also be worse heroes than their meta states but they did what they were supposed to do in their niche and people liked that?

Sorry, I mean…remember how uhhh no one ever liked to tank as dva and everyone begged for micromissiles and every person wanted hog to be a fat reaper with no threat beyond hook?

Me. I don’t understand these “tanks are not fun” posts. I’ve been a tank main since season 3 and I think tanking is pretty darn fun right now. We’ve had far worse tanking situations in the past like boring double shield meta, or when brig could walk up to rein, stun him through his shield and run over the whole team.

Hammond is in a good spot and he’s the funnest hero in the game, cc has been reduced across the board so stun locking to death is less of issue, rein got his passive so he’s no longer a pin ball, zarya is a beast, with less shields dvas bomb is fun again. I just don’t understand these posts. All around this is just the best state the game has ever been.

I liked the gallop suggestion btw. I remember when they went viral on reddit and I dreamed for a week that blizzard would magically listen to its fans.

I’m not sure where they can go on Orisa without double barrier being a eminent threat.

I say on what we last talked on just limit one barrier tank is the forward momentum the game needs.

We could balance main barrier tanks a lot better if this was the case. I could see them giving some orisa shield back by maybe 100 which I would cry for joy over.

My guess is eventually they just make AnchorTanks have

  • More Lethality
  • Less HP, or Active SelfSustain
  • More Barrier
  • Maybe an out of combat regen

The biggest issue I have with tanking is CC. I have a lot of fun playing tanks but if there’s too much CC on the enemy team I just get frustrated. In general I think there’s too much CC in the game. I think that as the main reason 1-3-2 didn’t work.

Don’t forget Mei. Despite what Mei mains would say, she still counters tanks pretty easily.

But DPS one-tricks will tell you we do cause “shields OP” and “can’t snipe tanks through shields”.
