No it is not closer to league than a shooter like halo or apex, not even close
Its a first person game were the majority of the cast shoots at stuff, not a moba

100% agree bring back Overwatch 1 but keep the gorgeous maps and return the assault playmodes. Overwatch now is less and less intelligence and more and more lower brain 17 year old reflex aiming. No tactics allowed no teamplay allowed. No tanks allowed no heal allowed. No positioning allowed. Just run in and be FAST and ANGRYYYYY AND OVERWATCH WILL REWARD YOU WHOOOOOOOO
yep. not to mention orisa, sigma, + double barrier.
is this bait?
Guys, First Person is a point of view, not a game play style. Shooter is a game play style. And although you do shoot in Overwatch, you also have Tanks, Healers, CC, Damage mitigation, Ultimates, status effects, and abilities that have varying effects. I know you have to think a little bit, but when was the last time you were anti-healed in CSGO/Halo/Valorant/Apex/CoD. When was the last time you had tanks in any of those games. Or healers in any of those games. When was the last time you had front to back team fights in any of these games. Apex is a battle royale with 60 players in a match. Overwatch is a Battle Arena from a First Person PoV. It’s TF2 with more emphasis on roles/classes that were based form World of Warcraft builds.
I’m not saying shooting should be removed from the game. I’m saying Overwatch literally will not work as a primary shooter, because the core game play incentivizes brawling and diving with tanks and supports around an objective. Where as other shooter games are all about controlling angles. And OW2 is more about controlling angles, but it will never be AS GOOD of a shooter as these other games where the core game play incentivizes holding angles.
No one played the Team Fortress 2-inspired “hero shooter” to play a shooter… C’mon now.
It’s not even the FPS aspect that is in any shape or form the problem in the game. It’s just that 5v5 makes up for completely empty and void gameplay that doesn’t reward you one way or the other at all and the heinous battle pass system is completely unacceptable so it’s not an incentive for players to play the game, especially when most of the rewards are horrible
If anything the problem is that the game’s FPS aspect didn’t even highlight with OW2. More than that it’s just now a Genji show which makes up for absolutely garbanzo gameplay experience overall. I’d rather play OW1 Hog and be constantly bullied by the enemy Ana, doing nothing the entire game because of it, than watch Genji players get some of the easiest value out there
There is a difference between “shooting” and a “Shooter”. Nearly half the roster is either melee/beam/projectile. Yes the game is from a First Person perspective and you do shoot. But you also have tons of MOBA mechanics that the game was originally designed around. CC/Shields/Status effects/healing. None of these mechanics are basis for the game play in Valorant/Halo/CSGO/CoD. Overwatch’s core game play was balanced around these things. The other shooters are balanced around the guns and angles. That’s why Overwatch won’t work as a primary shooter.
So is a moba and overwatch isnt it or even close. you are just wrong tbh, its much closer to other shooters and is a shooter itself
Mobas are over head view point and click games and ow is nothing at all like that.
The cast of heroes kind of looks like what you would see in a moba but the gameplay is fps.
Nobody on the planet would ever call destiny a moba and its closer to ow than league is by FAR
I played Overwatch 1 because of the FPS not the faux-RPG element. I continue to play OW into OW2 because of the FPS game play. I don’t play any of the other shooters you mention because I loathe military shooters.
Fair enough on that front. I like the combo of play styles. That’s why everyone who likes OW likes OW. The problem became in OW1 when the MOBA elements took over and became waaay to heavy. I, like most people I believe, prefer it to be more of a shooter with MOBA elements than what it had become. Though there are detractors.
Destiny is a PvE game.
I know how baldly you want OW to only be a shooter. But seriously, you have classes in the game. Tanks and supports. You have healing. What Shooter game have you ever played that had healing like Overwatch? Or speed boost? Or ultimates? Or front to back team fights. I’m not saying the game doesn’t have shooting involved. But you can pick melee heroes and heroes with beams. It’s not a Shooter like Valorant or CoD. It’s closer to a Halo/League mix. But what it really is is TF2 with more emphasis on roles/classes that were based form World of Warcraft builds. If your game puts more emphasis on the roles/classes, you are moving away from the Shooter genre.
I did play ow to play a shooter, my most played heroes are 76 and Lucio
I would say the same exact thing to you about it being a moba. it is a shooter with heroes, not a top down moba
you want it to be a moba when it isnt. shooters can have different heroes and still be a shooter
they have pvp too and thats what i play it for
.
Ah, yes. TF2 the first-person-shooter.
Just because it has classes and abilities, doesn’t mean it’s not an FPS.
I think the issue isn’t that the MOBA elements took over. They just stopped updating the game. They literally didn’t put out patches for months at a time. And when the patches did come out, they were minor damage adjustments that changed nothing.
Even more evidence that Overwatch isn’t that much of a Shooter, is how they balanced the game like a shooter to little success. They made small changes to damage values on weapons and abilities. Much like you would to balance a game like Valorant or CoD. Minor adjustment to gun damage to allow other guns to serve a purpose. Valorant and CSGO adjust game economy since it’s the core of the game.
But what Overwatch needed was hero overhauls and balancing on how abilities interacted with each other. Everyone always complained about double shield. Double shield was 4 abilities (Orisa Shield/Sig Sheild/Orisa Fortify/Sig Eat) that were cycled to have a constant uptime of damage mitigation. They needed to balance the game like they balance League of Legends. That would have kept the meta constantly changing and reduced abilities being used together for more value than they deserved. Keeps the game fresh and also removes annoying metas from the game.
Hard disagree. I played overwatch because it was a shooter and it had cool heroes. I still play overwatch because it is a shooter and has cool heroes.
If I wanted to go and play a moba I would. If I wanted to play a tactical shooter I would. Except I wouldn’t actually play either of those because I don’t like them.
Overwatch is unique in its own way. It is an FPS game with its own unique twist. Overwatch 2 has only made the gameplay 10x more fun across every role in my opinion. Tank is actually fun now which is not something I could ever say about OW1.
Let’s try this. I know League of Legends has minions and towers and stuff, but just pretend.
If you could play League of Legends, but only the team fights, with full hero builds and as a first person game. Where instead of clicking on the targets with a cursor, you actually can miss. Wouldn’t that be extremely similar to Overwatch? The way you fight front to back. The way the game revolves around cooldowns. The way you work with your teammates. It’s a very similar game no?
Yes and it would also be similar to Paladins.
It would be a FPS version of LoL, I would try playing it as I don’t like MOBAs but enjoy wacky FPS games.
No, probably not because it would be like paladins and I already don’t like paladins. Paladins is yet another game that is similar to Overwatch, but different enough that it plays very differently. I don’t like the idea of building my hero - I just want to pick them and play. Counterplay is much more satisfying than counter-building.
