This is the first time in … 2 decades(?) that Blizzard didn’t bother with an April Fool’s joke for all their games.
Remember when Blizzard is a company about fun and games? Fake new classes. Fake new races. Fake new units. Fake new patch notes. Fake new game even!! All sorts of crazy stuff?
I guess we’re above all that now. Now it’s about serious business. Millions in investor money and The Premiere Esports League in The World: The Overwatch League!

I actually saw two joke by Overwatch employees, but nothing official it seemed. Oh well.
I was kinda disappointed too.
I was hoping for a browser game “New IP” announcement for Vivi’s Adventure or some joke voicelines or sound effects or something.
It makes me wonder if they had a fake article ready but decided that the community couldn’t handle it (since the community has historically been awful at taking good April Fools jokes).
At least the OWL and players had a few posts.

Stylosa already had that covered. Can’t get much more of a prank than speaking about Blizzard adding two things that could potentially save OW.
I hope his subscriptions plummet. I didn’t even fall for it, it’s just frustrating to see two modes that would be healthy for the game be used as a joke.
Just read the patch notes since last year and you’re good to go.
I know the past few years’ AF jokes weren’t THAT great, but at least they tried.
Some of the best ones were the Pandaren race/faction announcement for WC3, the two-headed ogre playable race for WoW, and the D2 patch that buffed all hell difficulty monsters to 95% physical resistant and immune to all elements (ok maybe that last one is just me being gullible). Those seemed so ridiculous, yet somehow could be real.
And regarding the fact that this year’s AF is on Easter, they probably had all the jokes done a few days before the actual AF day, so even if it falls on a holiday, they’d have been able to deploy it. Unless they literally have zero people in the office on Easter.
That’s a bit hard to believe.
The WoW one was really funny.

At least they made the effort of putting Rein’s voice lines in-game last year.
The Overwatch community doesn’t deserve the effort anyway.

Kind of funny that the Korean localization team actually did more work for AF than Blizzard HQ when it came to OW.
Not even translate the KR page to English? Seems pretty easy to do, mostly text, minimal picture edit.

In a PC world, humor is a capital offense.
If they truly did skip out on a joke this year, it wouldn’t surprise me at all… I can definitely see them thinking “eh… with outrage culture, this is just more trouble than it’s worth”.
Too many people would be “offended”. I mean look at how many players were upset back when Blizz made a vid poking fun at the original mercy changes (remember, they had a guy crying because mercy wasn’t the way he wanted her anymore?) A LOT of players were upset at blizz for that… and I wouldn’t blame them if they decided to forego a joke altogether.
I don’t think Overwatch have room for jokes with it’s current state. What would they say? “Hey, we fixed the game after 2 years. Here’s role select and a guild system! SYKE APRILS FOOLS” That’ll give a good lul for sure
