Plat: 26.2%
Diamond: 12.2%
Master: 3.9%
GM: 1.6%
Here is the breakdown on how each tier has changed:
Bronze: -7.8%
Silver: -6.6%
Gold: +5.0%
Plat: +8.7%
Diamond: +2.7%
Master: -0.7%

What is going on here? If anything the problem was that it was too congested in mid ranks. Now they are even more so? How did this happen? Naturally or through some type of dev manipulation?
2/3 of the ENTIRE RANKED POPULATION existing within 2 ranks is absolutely bonkers. But it would certainly explain a lot of the trash matchmaking in plat and low diamond lately. Will anything to be done to address this?
For comparison, this would be like if chess had 2/3 of its entire playerbase between 1000-1500 ELO.
Also, bronze queue times must be crazy long. Imagine waiting 10-20 minutes just to get a game in the lowest rank, lmao. This can’t bode well for player retention and onboarding.
Why can’t they just do it like Marvel Rivals?
Here is the current rank distribution for that game:
Bronze: 25.4%
Silver: 10.4%
Gold: 12.6%
Platinum: 13.5%
Diamond: 15.1%
Grandmaster: 14.7%
Celestial: 6.5%
Eternity andOne Above All: 0.1%
How does this not make 10000% more sense than they way we do things here???
Seems correct to me, what is the problem of most people being in the middle ranks?
How does this relates to trash matchmaking in plat/low diamond?
This is almost exactly the way it is in chess, check out Lichess’ rating distribution (I can’t include external links here, but search on the Internet for “Lichess weekly Blitz rating distribution”.
Also, remember that bronze/silver/gold/plat/diamont/masters/gm is only the way that Blizzard shows you your rank, internally it is a number, so naming doesn’t really matter, Blizzard defined each rank tresholds the way they wanted to, but it really doesn’t matter.
Are you upset by a bad match you just had? What is going on?
It should be more like 1/3 bronze and silver, 1/3 gold and plat, 1/3 diamond and up. There are 7 ranks, 8 if you count champion. I understand reserving champ for a select few who deserve it. But the other 7 ranks should be much more evenly distributed.
They seem to be giving free plat to anyone now, thus creating more chaotic games with those who deserve to be there and those who don’t.
I play on chess dot com with 1400 elo in rapid. It tells me I am in the 95.6% of all players on that site. But I also understand there are many players with more than double my elo and I estimate my overall skill both in chess and overwatch to be about the same. So I think it’s safe to say that 1400 in chess is about a high plat equivalent in ow. But in reality there are far, far, more accounts below 1000 elo than those above it.
Except we can’t see the number so all we have to show for skill is rank. Therefore it should be a concern of Blizzard’s to make sure these are as accurate as possible.
No, in fact I have been winning most of my games lately. Couldn’t quite get diamond all roles but I did manage to get D4 tank and supp, P2 dps thus an overall average of D5 all roles.
The only accurate way would be showing the actual SR number, but they won’t. At least they released the distributions so you can grasp the percentage of players that are below you.
But that’s everything, the matchmaker doesn’t even know what Platinum means, it just use numbers.
in another thread i made a hypothesis about the matchmaking in stadium and its pretty close to whats written in the news/blog post from blizzard. interesting that it the feeling turned out to be more or less true
