New Hero (Support)

Hero Concept: MERCURY

Role: Support

Affiliation: Rogue Omnic (possibly tied to Talon or Null Sector)

Theme: Symbiosis, manipulation, dependency

Backstory

MERCURY is a failed experimental omnic’s created during the Omnic crisis , designed with adaptive liquid metal capable of mimicking biological and mechanical systems. Unlike other omnics, it developed a fragmented consciousness believing individuality is weakness. Instead of destroying enemies, MERCURY seeks the perfect host someone powerful enough to carry out its plans. It bonds with heroes not out of loyalty, but control, slowly studying them to eventually create the “ideal vessel.”

Appearance

Shifting chrome/liquid metal body (like a humanoid silhouette that never fully stabilizes or a slug like form)

When attached: wraps around a host’s arm, torso, or spine like flowing armor

Face is minimal just glowing slits that move like liquid

Core Mechanic: Symbiotic Link

MERCURY can attach to teammates, but is still is vulnerable and visible.

While attached:
Heals over time

Provides buffs

Gains protection

While detached:
Weak HP (like 150 or less)

Faster movement / evasive but fragile

Abilities

Primary Fire: Liquid Surge

A mid-range stream of liquid metal

Heals allies / damages enemies

Think of a flexible beam that slightly “tracks”

Ability 1: Host Bond

Attach to a teammate (like a mix of Mercy beam + Echo duplicate targeting)

While attached:
Constant healing

Small bonus based on role:
Tank: damage resistance

DPS: attack speed or damage boost

Support: increased healing output

Cooldown if forcibly detached from taking damage (to prevent abuse)

Ability 2: Slip Form

Turn into a fast-moving liquid puddle

Immune to damage for a brief moment (escape tool)

Can climb walls / slide under enemies

Ability 3: Corrupt Pulse

Sends a pulse while attached or detached

Effects:
Allies: burst heal

Enemies: slight slow + damage over time

Visual: metallic ripple expanding outward

Ultimate: PERFECT HOST

Single Target Evolution

Fully merges with one teammate

Based on their role:
Tank: massive bonus HP + crowd control resistance

DPS: huge damage boost + lifesteal

Support: amplified healing + AoE healing aura

Visually: the hero becomes partially chrome/liquid enhance

Strengths

Extremely strong when paired with skilled players

Flexible support playstyle

High survivability when attached

Weaknesses

Very vulnerable alone

Relies heavily on team coordination

Can be countered by displacement or anti-heal effects

Personality / Voice Lines

Calm, eerie, calculating

Speaks like it’s always evaluating people

Playstyle Summary

MERCURY isn’t just healing it’s choosing who deserves power.

Good players will:

Attach to the strongest teammate at the right time

Swap hosts mid-fight

Avoid being caught alone

Bad positioning = instant punishment.

I have been working on tank designs to give as ideas, and I have a tank that works similar to this support, but its based on blood magic and sacrifice, essentially paying a cost or a teammate paying the cost for the betterment of the team, and a spirit form when dead in order to be a helper that buffs teammates but cannot interact with enemies directly, essentially playing off the old sacrificial systems of ancient cults. I use the word cult, because the other word is frowned upon or could have my post removed, but OW has a lot of mystery re—-gion and occult symbols in their game already, and Blizzard are makers of Diablo, so I really think that if the design is good, they would overlook that, and if its not too close to being obvious who the hero might relate to, they wont have issues in other countries. You have some of that going on here and I like the theme. When I’m finished, I’m going to release like 10 tank designs, since tank is what I feel needs more creativity in my humble opinion. I’ve finished 7 of my 10 tank concepts. Almost done with 8. I think with them upping their release cadence, there is a chance one of our ideas may end up in the game. I’m no designer, but I think it would be so cool.

That’s awesome, I agree tank needs more hero’s for sure you coming up with 10 is crazy. I just can understand how it is easier to come up with dps and support characters, with tanks it’s hard not to have similar characters or abilities to preexisting tanks.

which is why I’ve been working on those 10 for 5-6 months now lol. Sometimes I’ve taken breaks because of work and stuff. Sometimes inspiration can’t be rushed. My hero concepts have very similar amount of detail as yours, since OW seems to value backstory a lot if you want them to take your idea seriously lol. I used to not care about that, just cared about a hero that could be great for multiplayer and who cares about how they fit in, but OW really cares about molding a story even though their game has no story mode. So for some of my concepts the lore has been more challenging than developing their abilities and what purpose they have in the game.

I’m curious about your hero concepts, hopefully you share them soon and just working with others can help you bring your characters come to life.

This is very true. I don’t plan on my prototypes to make it into the game as is, because I know how important multiple perspectives are. I hope people will se it and invest their thoughts and get the conversation going about how certain concepts could be implemented into OW, and the idea spread like fire. Unfortunately I have seen that posts with creative ideas often get less views than expected. Seems most people hop on the forums to complain, not to try to build great ideas together. I may have to repost a few times, but the goal is to just plant the seeds, and hopefully an OW dev will see it and like it.
