Nerdslayer is in shambles

Yep! I miss him discussing games that were actually shutdown instead of rage bait

30k players on steam for a f2p game that was previously a paid AAA release is pathetic numbers.

There’s no new people interested in this franchise and a few thirst trap skins aren’t going to fix this.

Yo! That’s my title! lol

My ony only complain about this game is the matchmaking.

I hate to say I told you so but…

Nah who am I kidding, it’s great seeing all this content coming out for Overwatch again and I did tell the forums so  I was one of the few on these forums during the content drought holding the torch for Overwatch having a bright future again, and here we are :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The collabs are great, the battlepasses, and so on

But too many here are living in a mental island.

I just wish we had a better quality matchmaking.

I mean why are you crowing? For one thing, 12-30k people isn’t that much. Fortnite has 30 million active players a day (according to activeplayer at least). That is a thousand times more players and that game is being touted as being in decline. I mean Baldur’s Gate 3 is averaging between 136k and 294k players a day and it’s a single-player RPG that’s not even free to play. This game is getting it’s butt kicked by a full-priced single player game that’s been out for months now and you’re over here doing victory laps. “Oh but that’s a good game” you say maybe? I mean Fallout 76 has exactly half OW’s player numbers on steam (6-15k) and it’s got one of the worst reputations any game could hope to have and it’s 40 dollars. People ARE upset, look at the steam and meta critic user scores. People don’t go out of their way to bomb something like that unless they’re upset. You are delusional if you think the numbers are good man, look at how OWL is doing and tell me the audience is so large.

You can go “Hey I think this is good news for Overwatch.” Fine whatever, but I don’t get this “Tee hee in your face, critics!” narrative you’ve got going when they still aren’t wrong.

I don’t hate the game, I want it to succeed and I guess those sales numbers are good for somebody, but I can’t pretend it’s doing great and any success they’re seeing from their current monetization model is also coming at the cost of a lot of good will and franchise prestige (if you accept user scores as any sort of reflection of public sentiment) and I don’t know what kind of value you can place on that.

I have to say I came to this forum to see if people are as let down as I am with OW2 and I find a thread like this where it seems some people have taken a dangerous amount of hallucinogenics.

I was all aboard for ow2 and it has been nothing but disappointment that I come back to now and then hoping it has finally become the sequel I thought it was going to be.

If you keep lowering your standards and expectations I guess ow2 is great, but I dont think i can lower mine enough to swallow what’s become of overwatch.

That bit of copium in particular makes me sick to my stomach. If this is the bright future for overwatch, things are worse than I ever thought they’d be.

Hey, the Youtuber needed to pay his rent somehow.

Go easy on him. Sometimes you just gotta harvest those clicks.

Really, laugh at the simpletons that believed him.

Careful, i made a post similar to this and it got flagged and removed for trolling.

So I guess we forgot about how they completely pulled the PvE rug under us, resulting in OW2 essentially being a monetization/shop update.

If you remove cosmetics blocked behind a paywall and derivative and forgettable Arcade modes to promote those pricey skins (Battle of Olympus, the Pachimary thingy, the “whatever-that-is-game-mode” related to the k-pop collab etc…), I don’t see the “tons” of new content people are referring to…

To me, it’s the same roadmap we had between 2016-2019, before they decided to witthold content for the F2P Overwatch project and implementing the new monetization (even Push was created and ready to play during OW1 but they decided not to release it there so they had more to show on October 4th 2022).

The only thing that’s being released more often is maps but we can’t really tell if it’s actual new content. For all I know, most of those maps were probably things they worked on between 2019 and 2022 that could have been released live years ago, if it wasn’t for the content embargo done on purpose.

Funny, to me this has been the once positive thing in a year (along the end of the content embargo). Those penalties should have been implemented years ago. Maybe we wouldn’t have lost 2CP to people being disruptive and leaving some of this game mode’s maps unpunished.

I’m glad the OW team finally realized they couldn’t let toxic players sabotage any more of their fresh work (Push, Flashpoint) and took a significative stand against those people with those penalties (that were long overdue).

Players shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what devs should do with their game based on tantrums and personal taste (that is different to each player). This was really getting out of hand and I feel for devs that work on a lot of new content just for some slacker players to state “nah, I don’t like it, remove it” one day after that new content’s release…

Imagine thinking 15k average on steam is fine for an AAA game

Meanwhile Apex has 130k.

Image someone stating this and genuinely thinking it’s true  =>

Edit : And I say that as someone that isn’t particularly a fan of Steam as a launcher (for many reason, I find it messy and too many popups and ads).

I don’t think he’s saying whether it’s a good game or not. He’s saying people who think the game is dying and that Blizzard has killed it are a little silly
Personally I think the game is pretty good. I’m enjoying it, which is great because I never paid for it. I did pay for Overwatch 1.0 and I feel that I played more than enough hours to get my money’s worth from that one

i mean… Overwatch is on 4 other platforms, and steam is probably the one with the least players.
edit: nvm the smallest one is probably Nintendo Switch

That’s a lot of IRL losers

That is just guesses there.

we wouldnt know since BobbyK wouldnt public the numbers. But a couple of players tracker sites has estimate Overwatch with ~310k active players. which isnt that bad compare to Apex

“B-But Everyone plays on console or the Blizzard launcher!”
It’s still pathetic for a game on Steam of OW2’s caliber to have less than 50k players this early in it’s lifespan. In truth I doubt it has more than 250-350k players globally.

As always the truth lies somewhere in between the boot lickers and the doomers. The game realistically should be dead, the direction, monetization, content, balancing and handling of the game have been horrendous. I genuinely think the OW community is headed down the route of TF2’s, as time goes on some will worship Blizz as this perfect can-do-no-wrong entity while most will feel resentment for how the game was handled. The main differences being I don’t want to end my life when I play TF2 since it’s tailor made to have a good time and more importantly, Valve’s business model has allowed the community to pump out content for itself, something OW players just can’t do.

Perhaps a more apt comparison may be Halo Infinite, but I haven’t kept up with that derailed train in a while.

Honestly my approach these past few months has been to just throw OW2 into the pile of "What could have been"s and go back to modding MC/Halo. I still boot it up from time to time, especially when balance patches roll out, but I just don’t feel that itch for it anymore. Probably doesn’t help that they dropped the ball with the story by making it a generic MCU-like tale and not dropping any more lore regarding the interesting parts of OW. Seriously, the only thing that’s got me hooked on OW2’s story right now is how surprisingly well written Ram is and we already know he’s probably going to loose beaten by the power of friendship and untrained, out of shape heroes that somehow defeat a force that took a last second hail mary to take down.
