Yeah mate, because cosmetics costing that is something no one has ever seen before …
… oh wait, its kind of an industry standard for “elite” skins.
Yeah same response:
Yes, we all hate monetization of GaaS games
Yes, prices are insane
No, theres really nothing you can do about it
No, most people don’t care that option exist on cosmetics (not P2W)
Yes, many other games do it already and yes, even more expensive (Apex Legends)
No, complaining in the forums and still playing the game does not help. You have to quit 100%
Yes, it has become industry standard so at this point you are complaining the sky is blue
Not to mention they claimed you can get what ever you want, which isn’t true, if i don’t want level 1 i still have to by lvl 1, i don’t remember them saying it is gonna be a tier purchase approach…
It costs you the cost of the $10 battle pass like it always has. You have to buy the premium battle pass to get access to the Tokens in the battle pass which is 80 which will buy you all the parts of the Mystic skin.
These are all physical items that have an associated cost to produce each additional one. They can all be sold or traded by the customer after the fact, and even still, I don’t endorse price gouging on those items.
I never said I expected a video game company to do something different. There’s a big difference being pointing out the ethical issues of the practice vs. defending it because you think it’s okay to take advantage of people with potential mental issues who are loose with their money.
The funny thing is the game is an FPS. You don’t even see your skin while playing. I mean if they REALLY want to sell skins, let people apply the skins to the models of the characters they see (everyone else).
Anywho, I don’t even remember the last time I looked at the shop unironically. It’s basically a meme at this point. But alas, people buy them, so Bliz will keep selling them.
Yup but it’s still nonsensical to punish people that much when they didn’t get a 10-dollar Mythic skin once. It’s a whole other level of boosting FOMO and incentivizing people to buy a Premium BP each season. Pretty unreasonable.
The playberase got fooled again thinking they could get a brand-new seasonal mythic for 10 dollars, while farming Mythic coins to get a Mythic they missed in the previous seasons…
Blizzard completely removed the new Myhic skin from the BP and there are only enough coins in the Premium BP tracks to get current Mythic. No leftover coins for any other skin which means it’s completely useless… outside of people who are unreasonable enough to buy an old Mythic at the price of 80 dollars…
When I thought this game couldn’t milk our money more… Guess, I underestimated them, again.
This is a great change. For example, I hate mercy, but I really love the widow skin this season. So I am going to buy kiriko skin with the currency and have this battle pass anyways. This is a win win.
You can literally buy any previous mythic you missed by just playing through the current battle pass. You dont need to spend $80, you can just buy the bp and earn the prisms to then buy the mythic you are missing
Also you are able to save any unwanted prisms for future skins or to finish off other mythic skins you havent fully upgraded
You literally have complete choice. You can get mercy if you want, or you can use the prisms to get an old skin, or you can save them up for a future mythic. You have the choice to do what you want
If you think you should be able to earn the new mythic + earn every past mythic for free. That is entitled
No one needs to spend $80 to get a mythic. You can get enough in the bp. If you dont want mercy, you can choose any other one instead. If you want mercys, get it then wait until next season when its a hero you dont play and use those prisms to get an old mythic. No reason to complain
Finish the battlepass, just like the previous 9 seasons, and you get 80 mythic prisms that you can either use on the current mythic and upgrade it max, get base mythic with some upgrades and save the rest of the mythic prisms or use the prisms on another mythic skin if you missed some.
The only real change is that instead of finishing the current battlepass and getting the current mythic skin you can choose what to get, without any difference in cost.
It only starts costing more if you’ve missed an old mythic and you wanna get more than one skin during one season.
TL;DR:
You get MORE options for the same cost as before, and then you get some extra choices after that if you wanna get more than before.
I mean, it’s the same as it always was. If you want a mythic skin, you have to buy the BP. Which mythic you get with that $10 is up to you. And it’s kinda the opposite of FOMO. It used to be FOMO. Because before if you missed the season, you missed the skin. But now it’s the opposite of FOMO. Anyone can miss any season and not have to worry about missing out on the skin. They can just buy it next season. Or the season after that.
No, there’s enough prisms to get ONE mythic. You’re not forced to buy the current one with your 80 prisms. You can buy any mythic you want.
I really don’t understand why people keep thinking this. If you’ve played since Oct 4th 2022 and have collected every single mythic, this change affects you in no way regarding Mythics. You can buy your BP and collect your seasonal mythic at the end.
If you’re casual and you don’t play as much and you’ve missed a couple mythics, now you have an opportunity to collect the ones you missed. If you’re new to the game and missed out on previous mythics, same thing, you can now play toward unlocking the mythics that you like.
There’s no difference. It still costs $10 per season to unlock a mythic. And it will take 1.5 years to collect them all for $10 each, the same amount of money and time all us regulars invested.
If you don’t feel like waiting a year and a half, then you can expect to pay a whole lot more for the privilege and convenience of getting the skins faster. But that’s all the $80 is paying for. It’s the equivalent of the Mercy mains who bought BP tiers or prisms to unlock the Mercy skin immediately. You don’t have to do that. Nobody has to do that. You can just pay your $10 and grind it out. And then wait for next season to grind out another skin for $10.
Its whale prices. just for the streamers who will buy new accounts and need to make a tracer unranked to gm and want to just buy the skin for that run. Its egregious yes but not for 95% of the playerbase
That’s not how people thought it would be and not really how it was promoted. We’re being deceived, again…
I don’t condone that new system. If getting old Mythic means paying 7 times its previous price, or not getting the new one, no thank you. Big scam.
Not everyone bought a Premium BP every season and old Mythic skins shouldn’t cost 70-80 dollars, period.
Edit : Keep in mind that I advocate for people who didn’t get every Mythic skin and that wished getting the new Mercy Mythic and at least a few coins to getting an old one they missed.
Edit 2 : Premium currency should have been the only type of currency to getting old Mythic skins. We clearly didn’t need a new currency in a game that already has too much of them. Thank god there are no real new players on Overwatch (that will definitely not join now) 'cause they’d be pretty lost.
That kind of system with many different currencies is a thing that will clearly not appeal to new players and for a good reason (they don’t need that kind of additional mental load in their lives, a game is supposed to make you have fun and escape IRL for a bit, without thinking that much about currencies).
This is so simple. Why is it so hard for some of you to understand?
It used to cost $10 for ONE mythic skin PER season. We only got ONE skin, it was a specific skin we could not choose, you paid $10 and you had 2.5 months to unlock it and then it was gone forever.
Multiply that by 9 seasons, a total amount of time equal to 1 year, 6 months, and 11 days. Which brings us to today.
NOW it costs $10 for ONE mythic skin PER season, except YOU CHOOSE the skin you want, you’re not spending your $10 on a skin you don’t want/won’t use.
It’s the same exact thing: $10 per skin per season. But now with a choice of skin.
It’s gonna take a new player starting OW today for the first time THE EXACT AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY to unlock every mythic skin as it did those of us who have played from the start. $10 per season per skin.
The only people who will pay $80 per skin are people who don’t want to spend a year and a half grinding out the $10 skin each season. The skin doesn’t cost $80. The skin costs $10. THE FAST PASS costs $80.
Remember in seasons 1-9 when you could buy BP tier skips for like $120 to complete the BP day 1 and unlock the mythic skin immediately? That’s what the $80 is here. It’s simply paying to SKIP SEASONS. A new player today can spend a ton of money to buy every mythic skin and have them all unlocked on THEIR FIRST DAY playing the game, something that took the rest of us 591 days to do, or they can just play every season for $10 to unlock one skin at a time the way we all used to.
