My main take from classic

is that Widow has ALWAYS ruined this game. The game would be so much more fun and better off without her. I will never understand how she’s been in the game like this for 8 years.

If i had to guess It’s cuz hot sniper girl with satisfying headshots is a big draw to the game. and by the time they realized their mistake, she already cemented herself too much and if they changed her some egotistical hitscan players who think they’re hot shìt for a landing a headshot with a lightspeed bullet will get upset that the devs will be “taking the skill away” or dumbing down the game or removing the hero’s identity

also side note, Using hero identity or hero fantasy as an argument is dumb because Hero identity means nothing. they have and will continue to wildly change heroes to be a more fun and suitable way to play, especially if it makes the game better. and if you don’t think that then play tank against scatter arrow and tell me how much fun you have

I personally think ow would have been better without widow. But, launch is also when she was at her strongest, there were many points in time for the past 8 years that widow was not meta.

Not sure if there’s leaver penalty in OWC but I would like to leave games that are held hostage by widow players.

Snipers always ruin FPS games, they work well in their own mode like an instagib mode where everyone has the same weapons but not in many other games and certainly not in overwatch

Literally every game

well they kinda work in other games like COD because of the objective and map layout. if a really good sniper has a lane or objective locked down. you can always go somewhere else and keep playing. and you’ll be safe from the sniper while they’re just sitting there wasting their time

In TDM you can just go off and find other players to kill. in Search and destroy there are multiple objectives and it’s impossible for one sniper to control them all.

But in Overwatch there’s only one objective and so if the sniper has control over that area you’re screwed since you have to charge into her LOS. this isn’t a problem in other games for reasons I’ve already mentioned.

The only time snipers do become a problem is when they’re too fast and can be good up close. New MW3 had this problem when they introduced i believe it was the Kar98k. it was a one shotting machine and no else was having fun because you get one shotted from close and far and it’s not fun to shoot 1st but still lose

Because OW is a first person shooter. All competitive shooters have a sniper class that is capable of 1-shotting.

So the real question is: why are some people complaining about something that was always standard in this genre?

If your friend jumped off a cliff would you? you know we were told that saying for a good reason. All because someone else does it doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing and we should do it too. Overwatch is a one objective game unlike any other shooter except for TF2. and in TF2 no one likes the sniper. and they’re both for the same reasons:

• it doesn’t feel good getting one shotted especially since they’re very rare in TF2 and Overwatch. as oppose to say COD where everyone traditionally had a 1 shot melee, Explosives, throwables, and shotguns on top of snipers. while in Overwatch 1 shots aren’t the norm outside of ults

• they both have map designs that heavily favor them. Both of them have very long sightlines that also can allow them to see flank routes, so not only do you have control a wide area, but sneaking up on them is much harder.

• Finally there’s only 1 objective. in Cod, Battlefield, Halo, Rainbow Six, Valorent. there are multiple objectives, so if the sniper has 1 objective locked down, just go to the other one and if its TDM just go fight someone else
