My experience with Ashe so far

As soon as Ashe hit the live servers and gave her a shot, i was instantly hooked. I was always bad at hitscan heroes no matter how hard i tried, but with Ashe this did not apply for some reason. After i got the feel of her in QP and Arcade, i decided to try my luck with her on Comp. Managed to do a 8-2 mostly playing Ashe in the placement matches which placed me barely @ gold (2050 or something).

Thing is, i somehow managed to climb to around 2700 by playing as Ashe almost exclusively, having more than 70% winrate after at least 60 matches. Won matches with leavers in my team, matches with no real team composition whatsoever and matches where i was being hard countered and hunted by the enemy team.

Again, im a bad hitscan player, which makes me wonder… Am i getting better at it or is Ashe just way too powerful?

Sadly, I tend to think the latter.

Interested to hear your opinions on the matter.

i feel she is pretty balanced, watching pro matches she really isnt used that often, bob might be slightly too powerful but he is easy to counter so i odnt think he is an issue either, some characters just work for us for example i can aim really well with mei’s alt fire but cant hit anything with widow for example

i could be wrong but i think she is pretty balanced maybe a tiny bit too powerful but she has clear weaknesses which can be exploited(she struggles close range for example such as against tracer)

She have one of the highest winrate in plat and above, and most heros with a higher winrate are niches heroes. The dynamite alone is generaly enough to deal a lot of damage.

But honestly, maybe you aren’t as bad at hitscan as you think. What hero did you played before trying ashes in comp ? That could come from that too. A common mistake that i found in gold / plat is the lack of timing and the ā€œ1v6ā€ syndrome. Basicaly, people going in, getting kills, but with a poor awareness or timing so the kills are useless. Exemple : If you team is still coming from spawn /regrouping, after a lost fight, wasting ults, …

Playing ashe, you can’t really jump in and try to 1v6 and it forces you to play with your team more and play safer ? Again, lot of gold/plat have good enough aim, but don’t realise what they are missing is those ā€œteamplayā€ / timing elements.

Her aim is very inconsistent.
Something about her gun is off.

I agree, her Dynamite is an amazing AoE tool, which most of the times either turn the tide of the fight or secures it.

I think im not a good hitscan player cuz i literally cannot play any other hitscan heroes at even a decent level. Me performing decently on Ashe is some kind of miracle for me. My most played hero is Genji, which i have more than 250 hours on, and despite that time investment , i could never climb out of gold with him.

Regarding team play, i do try to engage with my team, and back off when im outnumbered. Hell i even flank most of the times so i can pull of a juicy dynamite… But even in scenarios where im outnumbered and cannot escape, most of the times i will take 1 or 2 enemies down with me…

I feel the same way op. I just picked up Ashe because I loved her Voice actor and her aesthetic if I’m being completely honest. I’ve always been a support main, so it’s weird to say that I jump into games hoping I get a chance to play DPS.

Trying to kill pharah with widow or soldier was always a nightmare for me. I find it much easier with Ashe, and I can’t explain why. I want to say that because I was so into her character, I really want to get better with her, which is making me play better. It’s the only explaination I can think of, because my aim certainly didn’t suddenly improve.

She’s top tier but has top 3 hardest aiming, unfortunately like widow she can do it from.a range where little pressure can be applied to her.

I would say it’s both, you can pat yourself for the climb- nice job btw.

Imo the biggest difference between Ashe and Widow for example is the zoom, at least for me. As widow i completely lose my sense of space and time when i zoom in, while as Ashe, i maintain awareness on my surroundings much more, which makes me way more effective at noticing enemy movements and positionings.

Dunno, the ā€œiron sightsā€ thingie on Ashe’s right click is just perfect, at least for me.

Your probably better than you realize. Games below diamond are a crap shoot though. Don’t be too surprised if this is just a lucky streak. just make sure you learn from this experience and see if you can apply that to future games. If you do that then you might just be on the rise because you’ve improved mechanically and in terms of game sense and teamwork.

Her dynamite is definitely the best part of her Kit. It just does so much damage, you can use it through and around shields and corners and it’s an AOE.

I’ve been a healer/tank main since I started playing and this is the first season as a DPS on Ashe and I have been doing awesome. The first 3 hours I played her I had a 100% winrate.

Now, I play on console and I still find it pretty easy to aim with her and I just love how I’m able to take down Pharmercy alone, without any help, something I just couldn’t do with McCree and Soldier.

Another thing I love about her is her ability to deal with flankers. When a Reaper, Genji or tracer gets near me I just boop them away and into the air and kill them before they land, as they have a very predictable movement pattern when falling down from the boop.

All things considered, I’d say she’s fine and balanced

Since i started playing as Ashe (used to be a genji main) i can see the game through a whole new prespective. I started to realize how much important high ground is, noticing my team much more and be aware of whats happening. Things that were almost impossible to get my head around as Genji.
Might be a lucky streak , u are correct. So far havent had that long of a streak tho

I can beat a good Ashe as Bastion, Hanzo, Mei, Tracer, McCree, Reaper, and a few more. It is more skill-based than gimmick for her, as is most hitscan. You gotta aim and hit your shots. BOB is not overpowered, he is so easily CCd that his entire duration can be ruined by one Ana. He can be charged, hooked, booped, anything. Ashe is completely middle of the road as far as balance is concerned.

I like her! She is starting to be one of my go to Dps in qp as long as she isnt instalocked by many! The struggle

I like the way her scope feels and the fact that she had this wierd reloading stuff and able to get to high places. I love her dynamite as well and who can say no to the cute adorable butler?.

This is why Blizzard should have pushed people to play more roles. Letting players one trick hurt the community. Seeing the game through other roles helps teach the community to be better players.

We needed Blizzard to encourage and reward flexibility. If they had done this the community would be far less toxic and role disparity wouldn’t be so extreme.

I’m glad you’ve gained insight! Different heroes benefit from different things. Genji has a lot of freedom when it comes to movement and engaging enemies. Ashe needs space and line of sight to get value. I’m glad you’ve learned a valuable lesson about perspective. Hopefully you give more heroes and roles a shot too.

Time will tell. Good luck to you. I hope you continue your climb.

I’m not sure she’s OP, she has weirdly high win rates but I’m not even sure what to pin that down to. Her pick rates aren’t exactly high either, so I think maybe she is just a genuinely ā€˜good in the right hands’ hero.

I’m really enjoying maining her this season, as much as I resent feeling pushed off tanking, and it has taught me that my DPS game is pretty bad, but at the same time the focus on that has improved me a lot; I lost 400SR initially but it’s coming back now. I’m not sure that’s all in Ashe’s strength, there’s been plenty of times I’ve felt a need to switch to something more appropriate; and like Widow, with her that becomes very apparent very quickly.

She doesn’t feel like a ā€˜hard carry’ DPS, not in the way I’ve seen Genji’s used.

I 100% agree with you. I was a genji main because his playstyle and theme is very much up my alley, but after so many hours invested in it i am mediocre at best. So many random things can happen that can destroy ur entire play, so many characters counter you with no effort its not even funny.

But now with Ashe, i feel like im being rewarded for the time i put into her, in results. Plus, her being my intro to hitscan, maybe that paves the way for me to get into Ana.

Thank you for ur kind wishes!

This is something I’ve seen quite a bit among my friends. Most don’t play a lot of hitscan but all do better with Ashe than with any other hitscan. I’m a hitscan main, yet I find Ashe to be a lot harder to aim with than any other hitscan.

Indeed.

She’s fun no doubt but I feel that the community as a whole dislike her power and she’ll eventually be nerfed.
