Most Forgettable Cinematic?

…I just listed plenty of consequences. The whole story advances her personality, from establishing the whole thing as a persona to making her learn that she can’t shoulder everything.

This is an arbitrary standard. It’s heavily implied that they’re defenseless now and all of Korea is clueless. The stakes are there. Blizzard doesn’t need to make shooting star 2 to make it so. The last bastion does the same thing
Honestly, we should be asking all this crap about mei’s.

She literally realised she needed Daehyun’s help and asked him to overload the power core to her mech to deal with it.

I mean, she did die, they had the paddles for the defib out on her.

I was gonna note that, but defibs are when your heartbeat is irregular, not stopped.

Buuuut since literally Every Movie/TV show/video game uses defibs when hearts are stopped, it’s safe to assume that’s what they meant. So you’re right

For me: Bastion’s and Reinhardt’s. I think this is mostly because I have little interest in their lore, so I hardly remember they have cinematics.

I think the last bastion is overrated, honestly.

But i only saw it once when it came out so i could be forgetting something profound

It’s basically spasming, not merely an ‘irregular beat’, for all intents and purposes it is stopped, because it’s stopped pumping blood. Arrhythmia would still be pumping blood around, you wouldn’t necessarily even be unconscious, never mind need an AED.

In most cases, even if there is something, an AED won’t help.

Mcree? You mean BOB’s cinematic.

But that’s the thing. It could have very easily done so.

Like for example, Shooting Star could have very easily followed the previous battle. It could have shown us some of the propaganda of Korea showing some trashtalk between Dva and the other MEKA members about who would rack up the most kills.

And then it could have shown us that Dva was willing to be reckless if it meant protecting what she cared about.

The only thing that Dva couldn’t shoulder in the short was picking up a tool that she dropped at the end. If it was meant to show that Dva needed other people to help her to be her best, it did a poor job of doing so when the entire cinematic could be boiled down to Taehyun (again, I have no idea if I’m spelling his name right nor not) saying “Dva, that thing is too reckless” and Dva going “im gunna do it anyway”.

It’s not implied, since we don’t actually know how injured the rest of the MEKA squad actually are. They could be vulnerable for a couple days, maybe a week or two.

The argument that there are consequences because it’s implied that Korea is now vulnerable isn’t a consequence. It’s clearly stated that Dva’s reckless actions and asking Taehyun to push a button resulted in an overwhelming victory for her where she saved the city, with nothing more than a broken bone and a broken MEKA.

The Last Bastion and Rise and Shine for their faults, at least bridged the gap between their backstory and the current timeframe, by showing how Bastion reactivated and made his way to civilization (and eventually Torb) and how Mei went from climate scientist working in Antarctica to having a whole bunch of gadgets and escaping the base where her colleagues all died after being forgotten by OW.

They’re not especially lore heavy cinematics, I’ll give you that. But they progress the characters backstory and personality significantly more than Shooting Star does, which was nothing more than an anecdote about how great Dva is.

They’d already covered up that they were taking a vacation in intensive care.

I don’t think D.Va ending up in there with them is ‘without consequence’ either.

You mean Ashe’s and Echo’s.

it… Did. The narration was the propaganda.

It literally showed us this.

except she literally could not have killed the last one without Daehyun and the consequences for her recklessness was… Basically dying.

We do. They’re literally shown. And their mechs are also destroyed. Which we’re also literally shown

Where are you gathering this? From the propaganda? You fell for the propaganda?

Ecopoint: Antarctica’s map did everything that happened in rise and shine already. Basically everything.
The last bastion is only different because it got a follow-up comic. Mei’s did absolutely nothing we didn’t already know besides telling us Winston woke her up (which I could have sworn we knew).

D.va’s is…really bad. Fight wise? Cool. Story wise? Forgettable.

I personally adore Infiltration; Sombra’s debuting cinematic.

More importantly, after the assault, D.va is reported as being unscathed, while cutting the camera to her wounded state.

It’s possible that D.va was choosen as Korea’s “Captain America”, and thus the news are manipulated to show her as much more efficient in comparison to her peers. So it would be no surprise if in the previous attack she was also hurt, or if the squad isn’t that hurt, and they show them in bandages to imply D.va carried them through the battle.

Remember that before she went to fight the gwishin solo, Taehyun said he was going to contact the rest of the squad, which implies they were in conditions to fight as well (even if only on emergency call).

I’d say Mei’s, probably because it was rather long and not a lot really happened.

Dva’s is actually not forgettable because it stands out as the worst one to me. So it’s memorable, just not in a positive sense.

I just double checked this

D.Mon’s mech is completely destroyed (“life bar” empty), and she has what look to be burns and a bandaged elbow. Out of commission for a while; her mech is huge. Something’s up with her left arm too but I can’t quite tell and she needed help getting out of the rubble

Casino has an arm in a sling and several cuts. His mech had the highest health left but he has some stiff injuries.

Overlord has a bandage around his head; implied concussion. His mech is in similar state to D.Mon’s.

King doesn’t make it in the screens they show in the cinematic but it’s pretty safe to assume it’s a similar deal. He could be literally too injured to be at the press conference.

The fact that none of them were around in the cinematic also heavily implies they’re too injured to even be at base. “On leave”.

Without a doubt Dva’s short.

I have watched every other short a couple times, but Dva’s just once or twice, and I don’t feel like watching it again.

It’s just a boring short that isn’t tied to any other characters or lore. It’s just a standalone story about Dva and that’s it.

This thread got me rewatching shooting star… Nice

I think Mei’s Cinematic is the most forgettable.
She doesn’t really even do much in the cinematic in the first place. She fixes a thing only to go off somewhere else? BOOORING.
Reinhardt’s Cinematic though, amazing. Easily the best one they’ve made.

Then you are forgetting that it all can be propaganda. They might put them into worse state than they actually are (or forcing D.va to go with no bandages to show her in a better state than she is) just for the camera. If they get some leave time from that, especially because gwishin usually gave some breather time between attacks, why not?

That doesn’t really work, considering the whole thing was that they got “light scratches” but were clearly worse off than that.

It got me rewatching a few. I’d forgotten Dragons was actually good, and Last Bastion still :sob:
