Really wish the devs would chime in and put this whole “lock on” debate to rest. So sick of people complaining about something that doesn’t exist.
Such a pointless discussion. Technically it is not lock on but in practice the effective hitbox is so big it’s virtually the same as a lock on.
It’s not a lock on. Anyone like myself main’d Sym 1.0 instantly can tell the difference.
But even if it is what is your point?
It locks on to you. Guess cc doesn’t exist, high burst, and murder button like Storm Arrow.
Symmetra had a lock-in that did way more damage at the first charge. Where was she, F-tier.
And same sorry people that shouldn’t be playing DPS cause they can’t hit a moving Target got smoked by this F tier hero that Owl and majority of the playerbase didn’t touch cause that lock-on Genji counter was that almighty.
Lets deal with these Chernobyl tier lies
FACT: Moira’s beam is not a lock on
FACT: Moira has a larger hitbox than Genji and Tracer
FACT: Moira’s DPS is laughably low, one of if not the lowest in the game
But it’s not a lock-on.
Someone calling Moira’s beam a lock-on is a good indicator they don’t know what they’re talking about.
It looks like a lock on because visually the beam acts like its locking on, but in reality its just a big cone that acts like that to reduce visual clutter.
Wait, your argument for the idea that it isn’t a lock on, is that it can and does switch who it’s locked onto?
Although this person said it best…
It’s not “Lock on”, it’s “Sticky” quite different. You have to actually point her Biotic grasp at a player for it to attach, whereas “lock on” you only have to get in into the general area of your target, Kinda like how Symm used to be. Once you actually get it on target it’s hard for your target to break it off, as long as you are aimed in their general direction… or in simpler terminology, it “sticks on target”. But people don’t like to actually think this because it takes away a pitchfork for the “Moira OP” mob.
Wrong. Try again. ![]()
agreed, so stop calling it a lock-on.
and it heals her and it adds to a resource meter
That’s an interesting analysis. Although I’m not sure about that last sentence, about the pitchfork. Because while the forums love to argue semantics (I revel in it too, what else are forums for?), I don’t see that really mattering.
I’ve heard such things called “a distinction without a difference”
I’ll use some other terminology to try to illustrate my point. That Moira latches onto you and is very hard to shake off while she takes away your health and adds to her own, without needing to aim a weapon, makes for a very frustrating opponent, regardless of how you define or categorize the “stickiness” of the weapon in question.
In a matchup where you have a hitscan (let’s use McCree) who is low health and trying to retreat after a teamfight went poorly, he can circle around the corner but naught for a moment before a Moira fades forward to close the distance, and only has to be holding down M2 with him vaguely on her screen to finish him off. That’s never going to be satisfactory.
That is to say I’m not arguing about balance in this moment. I’m just iterating that this argument might as well be for the ages; it’s not going away anytime soon.
Old Symm had “Lock on” where you didn’t even need to be aimed on the person, just be near them and her Beam would attach itself to the target, Moira on the other hand, the end of her Biotic Grasp has to actually touch the target for it to attach itself. Symm was “Lock on” Moira is not.
I keep hearing stories about the Overwatch days of yore. I don’t think it’d be fun to replay that time period again, but I can’t help but wonder how much more context I’d have if I’d experienced these things. Alas I came along much later.
Actually I’ve seen quite a few people argue that lol
Yeah Symm v1.0 Primary fire only needed to be waved in the general direction of a target and it would seek a body to lock onto, and they would melt. This is why Tracer and Genji mains Loathed her.
This game well and truly has had some wild times.
Back in the Heydays of no limit QP, one of the worst teams to face was 5 Soldier 76 and 1 Lucio. Bloody Cancer. That and 6 Symms.
You know, there’s some funny thought experiments you can do with no limits.
Like, 6 Ashe all summoning Bob. Suddenly 12-man team. Or six Zarya, “Bubbles for everybody!”
No aim no brain gameplay only.
