Moira does not have "lock-on"

that’s different, hit scan falls into a different category this is a beam which haves 3 state, no lock on at all suck as Moira’s heal it goes through everyone and goes out to a range a soft lock on like moria’s secondary fire where it has conditions and will stay on a target along as the stay withing the criteria and a hard lock on with old sym.

I understand that but in my experience, that’s not how it goes that’s where my hate for Moira comes from not her on my enemy’s team but her on my team that’s what I was more pointing out. saying that I think her kit could use a small rework like the one in the beta that promotes healing more than the damage that’s all.

bro there is no such a thing as a ‘‘soft lock on’’, its a binary mechanic. Either it latches on or it doesnt, and the only lock-on left in the game is Mercy’s beams.

Because the visual for the ability looks like a lock-on. People that claim it’s a lock-on only go by this one thing. They can’t be bothered to investigate further into how the ability works.

by your definition, its a lock on it lock-on to the closet target which is what moiras beam does

All it takes is playing the hero to figure it out for themselves.

to be fair playing her it looks like it locks on and in team fights its hard to see.

No, it doesn’t. Anybody that’s played Moira knows that it doesn’t look like a lock on, nor behave like one.

That is literally only the animation, because a beam or a spray wouldnt visually convey the notion of Moira sucking out life. Mechanically, it doesnt latch at all, it just gives the impression of that because otherwise there would be no visual feedback that Moira’s beam (because its literally a cylindrical beam) has lifesteal.

The usual video that portrays how ‘‘soft lock on’’ is nothing but a myth from people who dont know about the hero.

Oh and this is pre-nerf beam size.

it crosses almost the whole scream to tether to a person it kinda looks like its locking on if your crosshair is small.

seen the video and he describes it as a soft lock-on, not a hard lock on like perfect example of a lock-on in real-life missiles they lock on to a target but if you get out of the line of sight or get out of range or something gets in the way they will then lose the lock on and try to lock onto the next closest target in front of them. that’s why we moved to heat-seeking from lock on is just better in every way because lock on misses a lot of the time

Saying her beam is marginally wider than Zarya’s is not correct.

It is a cone attack, similar to Winston’s. Just smaller.

Did you miss the word ‘‘supposed’’ that he says along with ‘‘soft lock on’’ to denote the falsehood of the entire concept, and the 5 minutes he spends literally saying '‘Moira has no lock on because there is no lingering effect’?

Literally, word for word:

‘‘There is fundamentally no such thing as a soft lock-on in this game’’

Moira’s is a cylinder, Zarya’s is a very thin and long cone, Winston’s is a very short but thick cone too.

Mercy’s doesn’t hurt you and Moira is super tiny and it heals her. If Winston were tiny and it healed him then people would complain.

If you play Moira you know, as the Moira, that you are AIMING it and that it isn’t locking on.

I am not talking about from another player’s PoV.

Yup, it is all smoke and mirrors. The beam is not actually the same as Sym’s old bean, despite what some people think.

I couldn’t read all the posts here, but all I have to add is look up symmetra 1.0’s beam. It DID lock on, as in damage around corners even when LOS was broken. A mercy-amped Sym could chew through any tank VERY quickly.
