And this is seriously okay with Blizzard? I made a post about this last night, and thought I’d overreacted to the nerf, so I played a hella ton more experimental games as Moira to see how this chmage feels in the long run.
And those of you who know me likely know I play a lot of Symmetra as well, and currently on PC platforms, her turrets deal 43 dps on their own, and deal 30 dps on all Console platforms.
Moira, on all platforms, assuming this change goes through, is barely dealing more damage than a single Symmetra turret. And she is an actual hero, and unlike the turrets in the game, doesn’t fully lock on to an enemy. How her beam works is similar to Winston’s, in the fact that it has a larger hit box with an animation tied to the ability to make it look cooler than the other beams. You can prove this when trying to lock on to a single enemy whilst multiple are near your beam’s hitbox; you’ll notice that the beam flickers between either of the heroes, making Moira’s damage in a group when relying solely on her beam incredibly inconsistent, but is why her single target damage is the opposite.
Moira is a hero; more than that, she is one that is quite popular due to her ease of access when compared to her counterparts in the support role, possible being even easier than Mercy when playing at a base level as she can defend herself better than Mercy can. And I think this is fine, not all heroes need to be point and click head kind of heroes, as Overwatch just isn’t that kind of game.
However, having said that, this nerf to her damage feels like it’s just Blizzard appeasing to the masses and nerfing her damage because more dps players find it obnoxious than others. And that is unacceptable, imo.
If we’re going to nerf Moira’s damage output, I would rather them adjust the length or the width of Moira’s beam, making it harder, but not toohard, to latch on to a target and deal damage and stay attached. This would require Moira, depending on the change made, to either put herself at greater risk when dueling an enemy flanker, or would require her to track her enemy a lot better than she currently has to.
Upping the skill cap on an easy to play hero is fine. Nerfing aspects of their kit because you are afraid to make such changes to hero skill ceilings is not fine.
Blizzard, make the right change to Moira. Don’t needlessly nerf her damage, make it harder for her to deal that damage instead.
