So I have a normal 60hz display overclocked to 72hz. Meaning the monitor tells the game that it is a 60hz monitor so OW doesn’t give me an option with more than 60hz 1080p though there are options for lower resolutions. I found a work around, which is to change FullScreenRefresh = “60” within \Documents\Overwatch\Settings\Settings_v0.ini to 72 instead and making sure the file is set to read-only so that it doesn’t get reset back to 60 upon startup.
But what this means is that I cannot change any of the settings that require a restart without having to redo this every time and all settings are reset to the ones in the file every time you close the game since it is on read-only. It would be really nice if an option for this could be included like lunch options in steam or a setting in game or even making an exception so that the line FullScreenRefresh = “XX” Isn’t reset but the rest can still be.
have you tried just setting it to (resolution) at 60 and changing the fps cap?
Yes. I get 250-300 fps. That is however different than what hertz the game is set to run at. fps is how many frames per second your GPU is rendering and hz is for the lack of a better explanation almost like the amount of frames per second that you actually see. even if you get 1000 fps if your display or game is set to 60 hz you only see on average close to 60 fps. however even if your display is set to for example like mine 72, if the game is still set to 60hz it will just make the display run at 60hz and therefore you will only see around 60 fps either way. even if usually your monitor will show more.
yeah… my point being you may actually be running at 72hz despite it saying 60. i mean its not like your gonna notice a massive difference with such small margins anyway
That’s probably true. I do notice when switching back to 60 however but it has to be soon after playing in 72 since it is a small gap. though maybe it helps you never know. There are actual 75hz monitors out there.
